Players share positive impressions about Fantasy Strike at SoCal Regionals
Fantasy Strike has been garnering attention as it is gearing up toward eventual release from Steam Early Access. While that’s well on its way, the developers are busy working on the game as well as bringing it to events — such as SoCal Regionals, which took place near the end of September this year.
Sirlin Games ran two tournaments over that weekend, and also took the time to ask players what they thought about the game.
Circa|Nicky, who used DeGrey, said: “The game overall is perfect. Fantasy Strike is the epitome of what a balanced, competitive, FUN fighting game should be. You are rewarded when you play well. You are punished when you play bad. Making good decisions will allow you to win. Making bad decisions will kill you. It’s simple, but once the mind games come into play, it IS the most layered meta I’ve ever experienced in a fighting game.”
Talking about the game’s cast, Zipstar BXXDYZ said: “You can’t just throw things out without a purpose because the consequences are large. Yomi counters are so cool in the risk-reward area. Stand still and get a huge reward or get popped in the mouth, lol. Character diversity in this game is beautiful. Not one character remotely resembles another and you can tell there was plenty of time put into the balance of the game.”
Circa|Aphex offered an analytical take: “The game is simplistic but can be competitive at the same time. It’s great in a sense that anyone, whether they be new or are FGC veterans, can pick up and play. The mechanics themselves are easy to get a grasp onto and it makes for some interesting matchups; some matches end quickly and some take a bit based on how the players make use of them.”
PG|Hayatei commented: “Yomi counters are really satisfying to hit on someone; it feels almost disrespectful because of how risky it is. The gameplay is really fluid and it feels good to hit someone. People from any fighting game can pick it up easily and start enjoying it really fast. The offense is kinda really broke but it’s fun to fight around it.”
Those are just some fragments of impressions from that day, so if you want more takes, be sure to visit the Fantasy Strike website.

South East Asia Major 2017 streaming live from Singapore
This weekend is South East Asia Major 2017, representing one of the largest fighting game events in Asia. SEAM 2017 will be host to the respective Asia regional finals for the Capcom Pro Tour and the Tekken World Tour, as well as the Windjammers Asia Championship. With some huge prize pools up for grabs ($30,000 bonus for SFV, $15,000 bonus for Tekken and $6,500 for Windjammers) and some of the best players in the world competing, you certainly don’t want to miss out!
Seven players have already qualified for the Capcom Pro Tour Asia-Oceania Regional Finals: Momochi, Oil King, moke, Xian, Tachikawa, Mago and Kazunoko. One more will join them via the Last Chance Qualifiers. Some of the players entered into the qualifier include Tokido, MOV, Itabashi Zangief, Xiaohai, Humanbomb, xyzzy, Leslie, Chuan, Denesis and Dixon, so expect an intense fight for the coveted slot. The winner of the regional finals is guaranteed a spot in the Capcom Cup, regardless of their performance on the points leaderboards.
It should be no surprise that the Tekken World Tour Asia-Pacific Region Finals will be packed with some killer players. In addition to the dominating forces that are JDCR and SAINT are some of the very best of the Tekken world: Knee, CHANEL, JEOdding, qudans, kkokkoma, Nobi, Yuu, NOROMA, TAKE, pekos, Tanukawa, Doujin, AK, Book and Meat, to name a few. The regional finals will lock the leaderboards for Asia and determine which five players will qualify from Asia for the TWT Finals.
If you’re looking to watch the action from home, several streams will be bringing you live broadcasts from SEAM. Team Spooky will be heading the main stream, while the Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 singles events will have dedicated streams at Capcom Fighters and the official Tekken channel, respectively.

How does Dragon Ball FighterZ pay homage to the anime? Check out a new compilation
We already know that Arc System Works and Bandai Namco want to please the fans of Dragon Ball as much as possible. Striking a balance between a fun game for everyone, as well as making it competitive and deep, seems to be going well for them. Those who know the anime and manga have already noticed a multitude of similarities between the works.
Kizz uploaded an excellent comparison video that positions footage from the game right by the anime to check out how they were modeled. You can see everything from Goku’s intro animation to Piccolo and Krillin’s signature attacks. The video also shows attacks from some more recently-announced characters, like Android 18.
Check it out below — and we also have articles on more Dragon Ball FighterZ comparisons with its material, like Piccolo and Krillin references as well as SSB Goku and Vegeta references.
