Everyone has a fighting chance
League of Angels: Origins is an upcoming mobile title that is based on the long-running series of games. As it approaches launch, the game has already seen over a million players pre-register. Origins features “Sky Battles and flight, high-quality graphics, complex and multi-layered storylines, large-scale PvP and PvE”.
If it’s December, you know it means a ton of holiday happenings in just about every MMO on the planet. Earlier this week, Perfect World Entertainment revealed all of the cheery activities that players can participate in throughout its stable of games including Neverwinter, Star Trek Online and more.
Austin Hubbard waited out the storm, assessed the damage and got down to business.
This past weekend was a massive treat for fans of Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Tekken 7. In addition to the 2018 Tekken World Tour Finals culminating in spectacular fashion with a Panda victory by Rahgchu, Katushiro Harada and Michael Murray dropped a hype nuke on fans with the reveals of remaining Season 2 characters Armor King, Craig Marduk, and Julia Chang. If that wasn’t enough, were were also treated to our first in-game glimpse of the title’s upcoming guest character, AMC’s The Walking Dead’s Negan, in the form of a cinematic trailer that was guaranteed to delight fans of the series.
Negan’s trailer recreates the iconic lineup sequence from the Season 6 finale “Last Day On Earth” and the Season 7 premiere “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be,” with several of Tekken’s cast members stepping it to fill the roles of Rick’s group of survivors.
Specifically, Kazuya Mishima is Rick Grimes, Jin Kazama is Carl Grimes, Heihachi Mishima is Glenn Rhee, with wife Kazumi Mishima serving as Maggie Rhee. Lars Alexandersson plays the part of Daryl Dixon, Josie Rizal is Sasha Williams, Paul Phoenix steps into the shoes of Abraham Ford, Master Raven stands in for Michonne, Nina Williams is Rosita Espinosa, Steve Fox is Aaron, while Bob Richards channels his portly counterpart Dr. Eugene Porter. Finally, Bryan Fury serves as the proxy for Simon, Negan’s lieutenant in the Saviors.
To further illustrate just how closely the Tekken team worked with AMC, Melku44 put the trailer side-by-side with various clips from the show, chronicling a massive amount of references to the source material, including the inspiration for his hilarious shot at Bob that closed the trailer. Negan is set to join Tekken 7 as part of DLC9 sometime in 2019.

While the 2018 Tekken World Tour was concluding in the Netherlands, the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour was making its next stop in Jönköping, Sweden, for DreamHack Winter 2018. This event would serve as the final offline Dragon Radar Event of the Tour, meaning this was the absolute final chance for some of these competitors in the European region to secure a ticket to either the 7th Saga Event, CouchWarriors Crossup in Australia, to compete for the Seven-Star Ball, or to the 8th Saga Event, the Last Chance Qualifier, where they can try their luck in potentially up to three single-elimination brackets to fill out the final field of eight competitors. With this also being the first event since last week’s balance patch, it will be interesting to see how the meta may be shifting towards the tail end of the Tour.
In total, 20 mighty warriors gathered to do battle in DBFZ, in addition to singles and doubles tournaments in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawlhalla.

The next stop on the DBFZ World Tour is the 7th Saga Event, CouchWarriors Crossup, taking place December 15th and 16th, in Coburg North, VIC, Australia, with the customary $5,000 Saga pot bonus also up for grabs. Registration is live at smash.gg.
Beyond that, the penultimate Online Dragon Radar Event will be for East Asia, with eligible countries including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea, January 6th-8th, with 2 entrants currently registered at smash.gg, and the final Online Dragon Radar event for Europe East, January 13th-16th, which will include Latvia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Romania, Lithuania, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Estonia, Ukraine, and Greece, also at smash.gg.

Dominique “Echo Fox|Sonic Fox” McLean was voted Best Esports Player of 2018, rounding out a very successful year for the multi-title fighting game player. Echo Fox|Sonic Fox not only won Evo 2018 in Dragon Ball FighterZ but also became the number one player for Injustice 2 for the second year in a row at the Injustice 2 Pro Series 2018 Grand Finals.
While his achievements in fighting games are undeniable, there are also many who see him as a shining example of diversity in Esports which makes this a big win for more than just the FGC. Check out his acceptance speech below!

And speaking of Dragon Ball FighterZ, the licensed anime title that rocked the world by Arc System Works and Bandai Namco Entertainment, it also won an award last night, making DBFZ the Best Fighting Game of 2018. It certainly rose above and beyond the expectations of the licensed anime fighting game, with its solid gameplay, groundbreaking visuals, and pitch-perfect adaptation.
Dragon Ball FighterZ has become a shining example for not only licensed titles but for all games within the genre. Hopefully, Dragon Ball FighterZ continues to see support throughout 2019 and for many years to come.

MMOBomb is reporting that 70 employees at Daybreak Game Company have been laid off. The news came via former president John Smedley who tweeted his disgust at the layoffs in December and who noted the number of affected employees. Daybreak released a statement to say that it is “optimizing our structure to ensure we best position ourselves for continued success in the years to come”.
The first week of Tekken 7‘s new DLC wrestlers — Marduk and Armor King — is coming to a close. The general consensus is that these two deal disgusting damage and break some Tekken rules in their own unique ways — just like good wrestling heels should.
Let’s see what the community has cooked today! High damage juggles for Armor King seems like a fine place to start…
It’s probably not surprising that Armor King has a cross-up move like this for tech catches. King has a similar trick with his Running Exploder, though this elbow is sadly inferior until we see a non-wall setup. Still, very cool find!
Sadly, it’s not all good news for Armor King. This particular ground throw is -27… on hit. Be careful where you place it.

As for Marduk? Well, it’s always nice when a normal combo ender can be delayed to tech catch:

If you’ve been having trouble with Marduk’s VTS combos, perhaps this tutorial can help out.
And closing out today’s list is the disgusting knowledge that Marduk can cross-under to keep wall positioning after a wall combo > ground throw setup. Gross.
