Injustice 2 Intercontinental Championship Australia results and replays

As the 2018 Injustice 2 Pro Series continues towards the endgame, one mysterious dark cloud continued to hang over the heads of competitors and fans alike: a mysterious European Program that would determine one of the 16 spots in October’s IPS Finals, that until recently had remained a question mark on the Tour. Earlier this month, the curtain was finally lifted on the proceedings — which to the delight of many more fighters outside of the United States, will encompass several more countries as the Injustice 2 Intercontinental Championship.

The first of four Qualifying online tournaments was held this past weekend, specifically for warriors in Australia and New Zealand. In the end, 18 players battled to determine which two would go on to represent the Land Down Under in the final 8-player IC Championship Finals in Vienna, Austria on October 7th, to decide the undisputed Intercontinental Champion, who will qualify for the IPS Finals later that month.

SoulCalibur VI’s Battle Director describes Azwel’s play style in recent Famitsu article

Learn about the Leader of Humanity’s unique Weapon Arts in SoulCalibur VI!

Last month we were introduced to the second newcomer joining the cast of the upcoming SoulCalibur VI, the “Leader of Humanity” Azwel, who was first seen in the Libra of Souls trailer. Wielding the Palindrome, with a fighting style described as, “the practical application of Martial Philosophy and Theory,” Azwel can summon a variety of weapons from thin air, all notably colored blue and red, similar to SoulCalibur and Soul Edge.

Recently, SCVI’s Battle Director spoke with Famitsu about this mysterious fighter’s style of combat, which has been generously translated by Avoiding The Puddle. The “Leader of Humanity” can utilize a trio of weapons during matches — which seem to be randomly generated, similarly to Faust’s Items in the Guilty Gear series. These sets can be enhanced to become “Weapon Arts,” providing the researcher with more powerful versions of his attacks. You can read the full description below.

Azwel, a researcher aiming for the salvation of humanity, has mastered the unique school of fighting by summoning three weapon sets of “Twin Swords,” “Large Axe,” and “Spear Shield,” into battle. The biggest feature to Azwel is that each weapon set that he summons to attack are already “generated” after, so the next time they are used, they will become “Weapon Arts,” which is a more powerful version of an attack, that can only be used once for the particular weapon set. Since you can’t see which weapon set is being generated, switching between the three different weapon sets and using the same type to utilize the Weapon Arts will be the shortcut to success when it comes to outwitting the opponent. In Soul Charge mode, all Weapon Arts can be used freely in his almighty existence transformation! It is only during this time that he has access to his new devastatingly powerful Critical Edge, where the opponent shall be loved by sending them Azwel’s salvation.

This certainly sounds like a unique and interesting moveset for a character that could serve as a key antagonist. Does this description entice you to save humanity this October? Let us know in the comments. SoulCalibur VI releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam on October 19th.

Rid the world of Saiyans with Maximilian’s breakdown of Cooler in Dragon Ball FighterZ

As he has done several times in the past, Maximilian was flown out to the offices of Namco Bandai Entertainment America to get some pre-release footage and playtime with the next Dragon Ball FigherZ DLC character, Cooler. In addition to being able to enjoy the increased range of tail attacks — like his younger brother Frieza and Android 21 — Cooler also boasts a pair of unique command normals in 6H, a low-hitting stomp, and a 3H lunging strike that will go through Ki Blasts and projectiles. Though his 2L is not a low, the eldest son of the Cold family still has a trio of them with his 2M, 6H and his Death Shaker special, that hits fullscreen. Death Breaker is a Dragon Punch-style knee strike, with the medium version having complete Body invincibility, giving him a meterless reversal option that can go through certain Supers, and also serves as his Assist.

Moving on to his Super Special Moves, Death Crasher is a rushing attack with some invincibility after the start, but will force a side switch on hit — which is a unique theme with many of his attacks. The Death Drop does low damage, but is perfect for setting up Ultimate Z-Changes. Finally, his Level 3, Atomic Supernova, is unique in that it is a counter on the ground, but a command grab in the air, though it will whiff on crouching foes if Tiger Kneed. You can see the full video below — along with a second breakdown from Max and Hellpockets, and some casual matches with Max taking him for a spin alongside Hit and Goku Black, below.

For more insight on Cooler, you can check out rooflemonger’s breakdown of Japanese stream footage. Cooler — and a second, unrevealed, character — are expected for late September.

Tekken 7 Season 2 patch notes coming tomorrow, will be “mostly buffs probably”

Start getting ready for the next battle!

Season 2 of Tekken 7 is nearly upon us — with a balance update, new customization items, as well as the return of series veterans Anna Williams and Lei Wulong set for this Thursday, September 6th. Though we’ve already seen a trailer demonstrating the new Wall Bounce mechanic and new moves for certain fighters, fans are still eagerly awaiting the full list of changes to find out the fates of their favorite characters.

Fortunately, that wait will soon be coming to an end. During the re-stream of Summer Jam XII’s Tekken 7 pools at twitch.tv/avoidingthepuddle, game designer Michael Murray, under the user name MISIMAIKERU, noted in the stream chat that he has recently finished translating the patch notes and will be releasing them to the public tomorrow, two days before Season 2 officially begins. He went on to say that there are 1,600 lines of changes, and that most of the alterations will “probably be buffs,” with the goal of increasing the number of characters seen in competitive play during the remainder of the Tekken World Tour.

Additionally, the Tekken World Tour website has been updated with multiple new tabs under the “Latest News” section, such as, a “Main Hub” post for Tekken 7 Season 2 Patch Notes, as well as a “Common” section that will likely cover universal mechanic changes, and character-specific sections for the likes of Noctis, Paul, Heihachi, Devil Jin, Shaheen, Lucky Chloe, and Katarina. Clicking these sections obviously leads to broken links, as they’re still in the process of being constructed, but everything should be fully functional soon. Keep your browser locked on to Shoryuken, as we’ll have a full report about the patch notes as soon as they drop.

Learn about Studio French Bread’s design philosophy in latest episode of Exploring Fighting Games Extra 8

Learn about the history and design philosophies of Soft Circle French Bread!

Recently, in their 8th episode of “Exploring Fighting Games”, the Chemical Lovers decided to look at the design philosophy behind an increasingly-popular studio in the fighting game community, French Bread. This episode walks us through the team’s humble beginnings as they created small amateur fan games and doujin works. They eventually desired to create a licensed, professional, product, sending a proposal to visual novel company “Type-Moon” requesting to create a fighting game based off of their popular visual novel, Tsukihime.

However, they faced unique challenges when development began, as they had to strictly adhere to the source material, with heavy negotiations on creating each fighter’s moveset and play style. Despite these hurdles, the game they made (Melty Blood) went on to become a hit in Japan. They faced a crossroads with the transition to a larger screen size and increasing popularity of high definition resolution, as they lacked experience, and felt trying to release an HD sequel would be a risky gamble. Thus, they decided to create an original property, that became the game they’re currently known for, Under Night In-Birth.

While the differences between the two titles are vast, they both emphasize battle planner Komone Serizawa’s core beliefs that it is their responsibility to ensure that each fighter plays how player’s initially imagine based off of their looks. You can see the full video below, as well as further discussion in Bas Gros Poing‘s article.

For an alternate perspective on what makes Under Night so unique, check out Bloobop’s recent editorial on its “freshness.”

Notable dataminer Miyuki-Chan returns, claims massive Variable System expansion is coming to Street Fighter V

Are a massively expanded Variable System and additional Critical Arts possibly on their way to Street Fighter V?

Over the last few years, we’ve featured several reports on a notable dataminer from Brazil, known as X-Kira, who’s leaked a myriad of content coming to Street Fighter V well before its initial release. From costumes based off of classic Capcom characters, the existence of Arcade Mode last October, a series of classic stages from past Street Fighter games — including Cammy’s English Manor and Sagat’s King’s Court from Street Fighter II — and more.

However, earlier this year, they vanished, deleting their social media accounts as well as their YouTube channel, removing all evidence of previous work. Yet they have recently resurfaced under the Miyuki-Chan alias on the Neofighters forum, offering a large post of new leaks in Portuguese. They have been translated and neatly formatted into a Google Document by NinjaWorldWarrior16.

The post notes that, “Another version of Street Fighter V is already on the way. Arcade Edition is just a beta in comparison to what we’ll have eventually. New mechanics will be added to the game soon, thus giving us V-Mode. In the next Season, we will get V-System 1 and 2, which will also be customizable, and will also have a new mode, and Hybrid.” They then say this V-Mode contains the following new features to expand the possibilities of the Variable Gauge:

  • V-Break: “It’s similar to V-Reversal, but it breaks combos, similar to Breakers in Killer Instinct.
  • V-Custom: “A mixture of SFEX2’s Excel, SFA Rose’s Soul Illusion, USFIV Juri’s Feng Shui Engine, SFIII Yun and Yang’s Seiei Enbu and Genei Jin respectively, and it also gives access to  a new type of “SFIV Ultra Combo”/”SFEX2 Meteor Combo”
  • V-Cancel: “This new feature is totally different from the well-known FADC.”

They next claim that the inputs for V-Break will be F+PPP or B+KKK, V-Custom will grant three different effects with the respective combinations of MP+LK, MP+MK, and MP+HK. Finally, V-Cancel will be activated with HP+HK, just like V-Triggers currently.

Continuing on, Miyuki-Chan next states that Season 4 will give each character a second Critical Art, with Sagat and G already having theirs already completed in the game’s latest build, while Ed’s is apparently only accessible on the PS4 version of the game due to the files already being present, as PC only has the animation. [This seems to be very reliable, as we’ve already seen “A True Martial Artist” Ryu boss in Extra Battle use the Shin Shoryuken Critical Art. – Editor] The current Variable System is also set to receive additional features, such as a second V-Reversal for each World Warrior, with the goal to give each character both a Strike and Evasive one. Additional V-Skills and the ability to sacrifice your remaining V-Trigger time for a single V-Reversal, could also arrive in Season 4.

To close things out, X-Kira/Miyuki-Chan claims that Capcom will be releasing stage packs, with the first packing bringing more Street Fighter II arenas, such as Ken’s Battle Harbor, Blanka’s Amazon River Basin, and Dhalsim’s Maharajah’s Palace. Volume 2 will be focused on Street Fighter Alpha locations, such as Nash’s Detroit Highway, Birdie’s W.C. in the London Underground, Ryu’s Field in a Thunderstorm, and M. Bison’s Ridge Overlooking Guyana Falls. A third Volume will supposedly provide stages to Street Fighter V’s New Challengers, with a Russia stage for Kolin, an Egypt stage for Menat, Zeku’s Strider Base, and the Neo-Shadaloo Headquarters for Falke. Cody’s Metro City Slums stage from Final Fight and Urien’s Olmec Ruins from 3rd Strike will be released outside of these packs.

They also note some changes within Capcom’s intended release schedule for Season 3: a second General Story was seemingly held back and could possibly be announced at September’s Tokyo Game Show, and there was going to be an additional CPT costume for Zeku that didn’t come to pass.

As usual, none of this is being added to the game for certain until we get official confirmation from Capcom. What do you think of all of these developments, and would you like to see this content hit Street Fighter V in the future? Share your thoughts in the comments.
