BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s version 1.21 update fixes various bugs with DLC characters on PlayStation 4 and Steam

With the recent release of the last nine currently-announced DLC characters for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle earlier this week, a few of the new fighters unfortunately brought a few nasty bugs with them upon entering the Phantom Field, such as one of Nine The Phantom’s Tactics Mode Challenges being unable to be properly cleared, forcing players to skip over it. Nine and Labrys could also perform certain Extra Skills without spending the bar of Skill Gauge normally required to activate these enhanced attacks. There was also an odd hanging glitch with Akihiko Sanada that appeared to be exclusive to the PS4 version. Thankfully, Arc System Works has responded quickly with a small patch last Friday to rectify the situation for players on PlayStation 4 and PC. Details on the Nintendo Switch version of the update will be added to the official story on their website once it’s been completed. You can read the full patch notes of version 1.21 below. Sadly, Replay Data was not updated with this patch, so any saved matches involving Nine and Labrys from before this update was applied may no longer function correctly.

== PlayStation 4 Update 1.21 Info ==

– Game would hang under certain conditions while using the character Akihiko Sanada. (This issue has not been reported on the Nintendo Switch version).
– Fixed issue where some attacks that would normally consume gauge with Labrys and Nine the Phantom were usable even with zero gauge.
– Fixed issue where Nine’s Tactics Mode mission was not clearable.

== Regarding Replay Data ==

Replay data, will, unfortunately not be updated through this patch, therefore some replays with Nine the Phantom and Labrys that were saved before the patch has been applied may not function correctly.

==Steam Update 1.21 Info==

The following features have been implemented:
– Fixed a bug where “Nine the Phantom” and “Labrys” were able to use certain EX moves despite not having any tension.
– Fixed a bug where “Nine the Phantom” had been unable to have one particular entry in her mission mode cleared.
– Fixed a crash bug which occurred after updating to v1.20 upon attempting to enter Character Select (Training/VS) mode.

==Nintendo Switch Update 1.21 Info==

We will update everyone as soon as we have more information on the Nintendo Switch update.

Thank you very much for your patience.

Successfully invade Earth with Maximilian’s Base Vegeta character breakdown for Dragon Ball FighterZ

With Base Goku and Base Vegeta being released for Dragon Ball FighterZ earlier this week, along with an extensive balance patch, many players and content creators have been hard at work discovering the new possibilities of the latest version. Among those is Maximilian, who is back with full character breakdowns of the new Saiyan roster additions.

Max feels that Base Vegeta will prove to be the stronger of the two characters due to his combination of highly-damaging loop combos, the strongest corner game among the entire Vegeta trio. Though many of his normals and specials are standard Vegeta fare, the Prince of all Saiyans possesses a unique Command Ki Blast that is fired upward and angles downward, which can set up scary Meaty situations.

Where the Base form begins to set himself apart is with his Energy Cutter special, which he can angle for interesting setups and zoning applications. His command grab, “I have no use for Saiyans who can’t move,” will whiff on Crouching foes and can only OTG off of Sliding Knockdowns. He’s also got a pair of versatile Super Special Attacks in his Level 1 Galick Gun and Level 3 Galaxy Breaker that can be used in a variety of situations.

You can find more coverage of the Base Saiyans from the Frame Advantage team, as well as our first post-patch tech roundup. Both of these characters are included in the FighterZ Pass for $34.99, alongside Bardock, Broly, Fused Zamasu, SSGSS Vegito, Cooler, and one more character yet to be officially announced, and can also be individually purchased for $4.99 and come with their own Z-Stamps, Lobby Avatars and colors. A Base Goku breakdown from Max should be following soon.

Witness Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition developers battle with G and Sagat in the latest Woshige’s Corner

With Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition receiving its final two Season 3 roster additions — the President of Earth, G, and the returning King of Muay Thai, Sagat — earlier this week, it’s time for another installment of Woshige’s Corner.

This column on the CFN Portal sees two members of the SFVAE development team, in the guises of the Outdated Shadaloo Soldier and Cowardly Shadaloo Soldier, battle it out with the game’s pair of New Challengers to better demonstrate some of their capabilities and how the designers intend them to be played.

First up, the Outdated Shadaloo Soldier looks to exercise G’s political influence against the Cowardly Shadaloo Soldier’s Cammy, making a point to show off the strength of G’s V-Trigger I, Maximum President (which allows the politician to immediately access Level 3 Presidential move properties, cancel his specials into one another, and use his G Barrier as a projectile).

In the second matchup, the Outdated Solider switches to G’s second V-Trigger, Dangerous President, which provides him with a pair of new attacks: the launching uppercut G Explosion and the command grab G Rage, which boasts a single-hit of armor (though it doesn’t start on frame 1). He now faces the Cowardly Shadaloo Soldier’s Rashid.

Moving on the the King, the Cowardly Soldier switches to Sagat, clad in his original costume — that is currently available through Menat’s Fighting Chance — while the Outdated Soldier pilots Ryu, re-creating the classic match-up from Street Fighter. They also demonstrate how Ryu’s Mind’s Eye V-Skill lets him deal with Tiger Shots.

Finally, we have a Sagat mirror match, as the Shadaloo Soldiers look to prove just which one of them is Muay Thai royalty.

Have you added either of these new fighters to your rotation yet? If so, what are your thoughts on the matches you’ve just seen? Tell us in the comments.

Learn the story of the Evolution Championship Series, as told by theScore Esports

See the history of Evo, from Battle By the Bay to Evo Moment #37 and the rise of Street Fighter IV!

With Evo 2018 fresh in the history books as of this past weekend, theScore esports decided to chronicle the overall history of the Evolution Championship Series in the first of a two-part documentary.

Beginning humbly as Battle by the Bay in 1996, Tom Cannon, Tony Cannon, Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar, and Seth Killian, whom would become the four co-founders of the Evolution Championship Series, hosted the event as a way to finally settle inter-regional trash talking between various local communities. However, B5 in 2001 marked the first time that Japanese players made the flight to San Francisco, California, cementing the event’s prominence as the number one place to compete in fighting games from all corners of the globe.

With the closure of Southern Hills Golfland in 2002, Evo as we know it today was officially created in order to preserve the spirit of the slowly-dying arcade culture in America. From the legendary Evo Moment #37, to the rise of Street Fighter IV, to a hilarious story about the Cannons driving a truck full of CRT televisions with a broken clutch through a toll road at 3:00 AM, James Chen, Antonio Javier, Aris, and Tom Cannon give viewers a glimpse inside the origins of the world’s largest fighting game tournament. This is a very informative video, that anyone who is interested in any aspect of the competitive scene should make a point to watch. Part 2 will be released on Saturday, August 11th.

Do you have any fond memories of the beginning events of Evo, or were you learning about this piece of history for the very first time? Give us your thoughts and reactions in the comments section below.

New DasVergeben rumors hint at possible futures of Dragon Ball FighterZ, SoulCalibur VI, Super Smash Bros., and a possible Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite update

Could a New Age of Heroes be about to dawn?

Earlier this week, famed leaker DasVergeben took to both reddit and GameFAQs to speak about some updated information he’s heard from his various sources concerning several different fighting games, some of which could be getting revealed during the Sunday finals of Evo 2018.

First off, he notes that both Castlevania’s Simon Belmont (whom he’s spoken about previously) and Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s Isabelle will be two of the newcomers arriving to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and even goes as far to state that any “leaked lists” that don’t feature the pair should immediately be considered fake. He also claims that there will be a Generation 7 Pokémon amongst the playable roster — but that it will not be Decidueye, Lycanroc, or Mimikyu.

Next, he claims that the rumors of a League Of Legends fighting game developed by Radiant Entertainment are true, noting that he doesn’t know anything specific about gameplay or playable characters, but that he’d, “be really surprised if it doesn’t get revealed at Evo for reasons I can’t say.”

Moving on to SoulCalibur VI, DasVergeben reiterates that Tira, Astaroth, Cervantes, and Grøh’s dad — who could also be his Master — will be in the game, with the “Agent in Black’s” father also serving as a boss character in Story Mode. He also expresses uncertainty about Raphael’s chances of making the cut, claims that Lizardman will make an appearance in some capacity, that Cassandra is in the roster (though he’s unsure if she’s a base fighter or DLC), and that SoulCalibur IV’s Hilde will be one of the DLC characters included in the game’s Season Pass, as the additional warriors are not going to be very story-relevant characters, with the game having a 23-24 character launch cast.

On to Dragon Ball FighterZ, Vergeben claims that he heard from a separate source — different than the supposed Bandai Namco employee who claimed a Season 2 DLC roster of Gogeta, Tapion, Master Roshi, Videl, Raditz, Zarbon, and Cabba & Kale — that four of the eight Season 2 Z-Warriors will actually be Ultra Instinct Goku, Jiren the Gray, Super Saiyan 4 Goku — who would mark the first Dragon Ball GT representation — and Gogeta, who could possibly be making his canonical debut in the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Broly film based off of merchandise.

Finally, possibly the most interesting part of this leak is Vergeben’s claim that a new update for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is seemingly in the works, and could be announced on Sunday at Evo, stating the following.

Information is scarce. Nobody knows anything other than it’s apparently happening and may be offered as an upgrade like how Capcom did for Street Fighter V with Arcade Edition. I only had one source mention it might be an “Ultra” styled update instead, which means it could be offered like how Ultra Street Fighter IV was a purchased update, standalone, or retail release. No one knows what’s being added, changed, or characters added other than the obvious suspicion that they in the very least finished up the characters that were being worked on for Season 2 which included Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, Asura, Lady, Gill, and Rashid. Though I heard back in January that there was push for including Vergil, specifically in place of Rashid possibly. So there is that all to consider from back then.

Whatever is happening with it this time around seems to be more secretive than ever. As I said before, I don’t know if this will be revealed at Evo or not. Only that it seems to be happening since so many people have heard and are hearing about it. I’ve sat on this information since after SDCC. What’s funny is how I and others took the game’s future as being dead by nothing being said there. Then within a few days after, all this talk of an update actually happening came pouring out my way.”

We’ll see what happens. Especially at Evo if it’s done there. But it’s become impossible for me to ignore.

He ends everything by saying we should be hyped for today’s announcements, as there are even more planned than last year.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you like to see a new version of MvC:I or some of these rumored roster additions come to pass? Let us know in the comments, and keep in mind these are all unconfirmed rumors, so take them with a truckload of salt!
