The latest episode of “Real-Life Tekken” heads to the Streets!
After emulating the moveset of SNK guest character Geese Howard back in December, stuntman and actor Eric Jacobus returns for the first episode of “Real-Life Tekken” in 2018, choosing to take things to the Streets by emulating the moveset of another Tekken 7 guest fighter: Akuma.
Clad in a blue karate gi, Jacobus proceeds to Gohadoken, Goshoryuken, and Tatsumaki Zankukyaku a punching bag with all of the ferocity and killing intent of the “Raging Demon” himself (or at least as much of that as you can muster in reality). He even manages to pull some extremely impressive Demon Flips with brilliant usage of mats, and a hilarious “recreation” of the Raging Demon with firecrackers.
Jacobus notes that, “Akuma’s moves are the result of doing karate in sandals for a thousand years. His stance is totally grounded, as if his toes are gripping the ground. Everything is heavy-handed and karate-based, except for some of his impossible airborne attacks. Nonetheless, if you find yourself in a street fight and you’re wearing flip flops, don’t try to fight like Akuma.” You can view the full video below.
In addition to revealing that her role will be reprised by Tara Platt, we now know that she will have special interactions with P4A’sNaoto Shirogane, Akihiko Sanada, and Aigis, BlazBlue’s Jin Kisaragi, Nu-13, and Mai Natsume, and Rachel Alucard, UNIEL’sOrie and RWBY‘sBlake Belladonna and Weiss Schnee, even invoking the latter’s infamous “Ice Queen” nickname.
Also, BonusKun has also discovered exactly where each of these remaining nine fighters will be placed within their individual columns on the Character Select Screen. Izayoi will be in front of Azrael, as they both hail from Chrono Phantasma, while Nine and Mai will be beside Es and Jubei, respectively, rounding out the Central Fiction quartet. On the P4Aside of things, Mitsuru and Akihiko will be next to each other and beside their Persona 3 companion Aigis, while Labrys will be between her sister and Yu Narukami. For UNIEL,Merkava will be in front of Vatista, continuing the mirroring of the original arcade character reveal order, with Yuzu and [st]’s Mika Returna rounding out the column.
Next, we also have some song leaks that further point to these characters, just in case you still weren’t convinced yet. The list of upcoming themes is as follows:
Justice Sword (Izayoi Theme)
Walpurgisnacht (Nine The Phantom Theme)
VARIABLE HEART (Mai Natsume Theme)
in Justice (Izayoi and Hakumen Vs./Team Theme)
Reincarnation (Kokonoe or Celica A. Mercury Vs. Nine The Phantom Theme; possibly Nine and Jubei Vs/Team Theme)
END GAZER (Nine The Phantom and Es Vs./Team Theme)
Missions For The Brilliant Executor (Mitsuru Kirijo Theme)
The Wandering Wolf (Akihiko Sanada Theme)
Spirited Girl (Labrys Theme)
Burn My Dread (Persona 3 Vs. Theme)
Unseen Entities (Merkava Theme)
Walking Lily Flower (Yuzuriha Theme)
Forceful Step (Mika Theme)
Though the songs are the expected fare, Reincarnation stands out as an interesting inclusion, as it served as the Mercury Family vs. theme for whenever Nine battled either her daughter Kokonoe or her beloved sister Celica, neither of whom are currently in BBTAG. BonusKun speculates that this could just be being repurposed as a vs./team theme for Nine and her husband Jubei, as they lack a proper vs. theme in BBCF, but that remains to be seen.
Finally, there is an interesting image that is currently going unused, but looks like it could fit right into the main menu as a new tab. It looks like a Keystone reflecting the images of DLC characters from all four franchises: Jubei, Blake, Carmine, and Aegis, suggesting the possibility of a new in-game interface to the online stores for purchasing DLC characters and colors, similar to the one currently seen in Street Fighter V. You can see everything revealed below.
Unannounced DLC character positions in the select screen! BB side, and no, they're still not playable on the 3 sided franchises until probably after Evo. (Game still crashes if you select them), RWBY still remains the same. No portrait artwork, however still. pic.twitter.com/jQE3gTsXhB
Well, its not just the characters themselves, besides the color's 9-13 to unlock in game and their lobby avatars that come with them, remember, their themes are included too. Starting with the BB side (1/2). pic.twitter.com/SCdH0TdaQl
BB Side! (2/2) (If you were expecting any VS themes that are Tsubaki related, since Izayoi's in, like Childish Killer or Memory of Tears, sadly, don't expect them here. Reincarnation is most likely Nine/Jubei theme, while End Gazer is obviously Nine/Es theme.) pic.twitter.com/VFlezu9CNn
Anyways, there's probably something that'll surprise everyone at this point, at the moment, this goes unused. But I assume this image is supposedly the section to check out the DLC via PS Store, E-Shop and the Steam Store. pic.twitter.com/xHrBRa1DJ6
Oh, by the way, for anyone wondering on Burn my Dread, it is the short OP version, not the longer full version that was on its own soundtrack. Apologies for those that want to hear it similarly longer like the other P4 team themes.
Step into the world of the Night Warriors with these guides from The Nostalgic Gamer!
After concluding his “Meet The Darkstalkers” series last April with an episode covering Lilith Aensland, The Nostalgic Gamer continues his Darkstalkers Forever project with a three-part “Darkstalkers Fighting Game Primer” mini-series. It serves to introduce newcomers to both the wold of Darkstalkers (as well as the fighting game genre as a whole) though the lenses of Night Warriors and Vampire Savior, the two most-commonly played installments of the franchise, which are also part of Capcom’s 2013 Darkstalkers Resurrection release.
Though the series begins by explaining the very basic concepts of 2D fighting games (which will no doubt be familiar territory to the majority of our readers), TNG goes on to outline mechanics that are specific to Darkstalkers such as Pursuit Attacks, Holds, and the Dark Force system in Vampire Savior, as well as the core differences between the two games.
Finally, the third part of the Primer discusses ways for new players to get into the genre and stay for the long haul, as well as just exactly what drives many of us to log hours and hours of study and playtime into our video game genre of choice — especially for a 21-year old game like Savior.
With this weekend’s AnimEVO having a 56 entrant side tournament, this series is definitely a recommended watch if you’re new to the game, but invested in spectating the event. There is also a series of companion articles, videos, and social media pages, if you’re interested in further increasing your fighting game knowledge or looking to get involved with the competitive Darkstalkers community, listed in the video descriptions. You can see the full series below.

The Japanese BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle website recently updated once again, revealing that the next Arc Nama stream will be taking place on Friday, August 17th. Though we’re hopefully going to see some official reveals for the nine remaining DLC characters this weekend at Evo 2018 (with Cross Character Pack 4 rumored to be releasing on Monday, August 6th, according to the Nintendo eShop). There’s a good chance we could be in store for a reveal, as Cross Character Pack 5 is rumored to drop on Tuesday, August 21st, just four days after this stream. Tthe developers may demo the trio of upcoming fighters before we get our hands on them officially.
As usual, we’ll just have to tune in at twitch.tv/arcsystemworks, at 4:00 AM PT/6:00 AM CT/7:00 AM ET to see what the team may have in store.
A Dead or Alive 5 veteran and a new challenger join the latest tournament!
Earlier today, Koei Tecmo revealed two new characters for the upcoming Dead or Alive 6, in the form of returning veteran Rig, and newcomer Diego.
Players of Dead or Alive 5 should remember Rig, the Canadian Taekwondo practitioner and oil platform worker, known as “the fighter without a past” who served Victor Donovan’s MIST organization and reactivated Project Epsilon at the climax of the game’s Story Mode. He appears to return with his stances and signature close-range pressure game intact, as he squares off with the first newcomer of this installment: the “Uncrowned Street Hero” Diego, who battles with a brutal, unrefined, “Street Style” that looks very reminiscent of Tekken’s Miguel Caballero Rojo.
IGN also provides some new gameplay of the first six previously announced characters, as we see full matches of Diego vs. Rig, Hayate vs. Kasumi, Zack vs. Ryu Hayabusa, and Jann Lee vs. Helena Douglas. The game’s Unreal Engine 4 graphics and battle damage are on full display — as well as a new stage, allowing players to fight in a dark alley with flaming oil drums and a cheering crowd who even serve as a Danger Zone by shoving combatants back into the fray, should they come to close to them. You can see both videos below.
Both of these characters will likely be playable this weekend at Evo 2018. You can check out our preview of the Dead or Alive Evo Showdown 2018, which will feature a DOA6 exhibition and a side tournament for Dead or Alive 5: Last Round on Friday, August 3rd and Saturday, August 4th, at twitch.tv/deadoralivegame.
Dead or Alive 6 will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam in early 2019.
Last night, online registration officially closed for AnimEVO 2018, meaning that the entry totals for each title have now been tallied and released, resulting in a whopping 776 unique entrants across the event’s 27 different side tournaments. Without further ado, the numbers for each game are as follows:
Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late[st] – 209 entrants
Windjammers – 171 entrants
BlazBlue: Central Fiction Version 2.0 – 114 entrants
Gundam Versus – 97 entrants
The King of Fighters XIV – 89 entrants
Melty Blood: Actress Again: Current Code – 73 entrants
With the release of character trailers for the next pair of DLC characters in Dragon Ball FighterZ, Base (or Black Hair) Goku and Vegeta, YouTuber IKevinX is back once again to document all of the anime and manga references that are present in each.
Both characters, Base (or Black Hair) Goku and Vegeta, harken back to the early days of Dragon Ball Z, before either of these mighty warriors obtained the powers of a Super Saiyan. Arc System Works has extensively drawn on many of the pair’s earlier fights during the Saiyan and Captain Ginyu Sagas, with Base Goku having several normal attacks that appear to be unique and based off of his early battles with Vegeta, the Ginyu Force and Frieza, in addition to debuting the Kaioken and Spirit Bomb.
Meanwhile, Base Vegeta maintains the dark brutality that characterized the early sadistic days of the Saiyan Prince, utilized the techniques he employed to murder Guldo, Burter, Jeice, Cui, and of course, Nappa. He looks to have Dirty Fireworks, his trademark Galick Gun, and the Destructo Disk, but unfortunately no Great Ape transformation. You can see the video, with all of it’s nostalgia-filled goodness, below.
Both of these characters will be available in mid-August along with the next balance patch. You can see our previous coverage of IKevinX’s work below.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC, with a Nintendo Switch version releasing on Thursday, September 27th in Japan, and Friday, September 28th in North America and Europe.
Enjoy a look at some unused concepts that have been datamined out of the Nintendo classic!
This past weekend, Source Gaming’s PushDustin and the Duke of Dorks released their three-part datelining series on Super Smash Bros. Melee. After embarking on “The Great Sukapon Search,” to find any possible evidence of the Joy Mecha Fight protagonist in the game (whom was rumored to be playable at one point before ultimately being cut, and is now going to be an Assist Trophy in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) PushDustin instead discovered evidence of several unused modes and cut stages that were originally planned for the title.
Arenas based off of Fire Emblem’s Kingdom of Archanea, an Ice Climbers stage known as the “Summit,” Pokémon Gold & Silver’s Sprout Tower, a possible offline version of the online Melee Dojo, a mysterious “Trophy Battle” mode, and more were uncovered in this series — which you can see in its entirety below.
What are your thoughts on some of these discoveries?
