Enjoy some Japanese BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle action from the YOSHIMOTO Gaming Pro selection competiton

Late last moth, we brought you a tier list from Kubo, a top Japanese Under Night In-Birth and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax player, who some are already describing as “the best BBTAG player in Japan.” Now you can get a taste of some international action, as some of Japan’s finest from multiple Arc System Works titles couldn’t escape from Crossing Fate at the YOSHIMOTO Gaming Pro selection competition. This event featured Kubo, rocking his deadly team of Ruby Rose and Hyde Kido, as well as notable fighters ROW, Senaru, Damosu, Koichi, Ho-Chan, KoujiKOG, ZackyWild, Minami, Hifumi, Tarou, Yukia, Jyudou and many more.

With ASW’s tag team crossover title recently supplanting Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as currently the fifth-largest game at Evo 2018, it’s very likely that we could see a lot of these faces battling in Las Vegas this August. In fact, the winner of this event received a sponsorship to Evo courtesy of YOSHIMOTO Gaming. You can see the full tournament — which clocks in at around four-and-a-half hours in total — below. Uploader HYDEGaming1 has included timestamps for each match for your convenience, while commentator Shirtaker has provided us with the names of each player, and a list of the individual match-ups, making it extremely easy to find your favorite players quickly.

What are your thoughts on the level of competition and team compositions compared to some of the American play we’ve seen at Northwest Majors and CEO recently? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments section.

Nakano Street Battle 3 results

While CEO 2018 was taking over Daytona Beach, another battle was raging in Japan with Nakano Street Battle 3. Though many of Japan’s finest were chasing Capcom Pro Tour and Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour glory in the States, nearly 100 of Japan’s greatest lesser-known players showed up to compete in both titles, with the winner of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition earning an all-expenses paid flight out to Esports Festival Hong Kong 2018 — a CPT Premier event — taking place August 25th and 26th, courtesy of Atlas Bear. Names like Iori, Yossan, Reiketsu, Pekos, Nishikin, Trashbox, Inuchiyo, Youshikibi, and Initial Kyouso were all looking to take home the gold, ensuring some fierce battles — especially with the customary single-elimination, first-to-two, format!

Next BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Arc Nama stream scheduled for Friday, July 20th

The official BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Japanese website has recently updated, revealing that the next Arc Nama stream is scheduled for Friday, July 20th. Though we likely won’t see any more DLC characters added to the game until after Evo 2018 concludes (with Cross Character Pack 4 rumored to be released on Monday, August 6th) potential character reveals could be right around the corner.

Though last month’s stream broke Arc System Works’ established reveal pattern, we’ve seen a myriad of leaks for the remaining nine fighters — which are BlazBlue’s Izayoi, Nine The Phantom, and Mai Natsume, Persona 4 Arena’s Mitsuru Kirijo, Akihiko Sanada, and Labrys, and Under Night In-Birth’s Yuzuriha Sougetsu, Merkava, and Mika Returna.

From Lobby Avatars, to Announcer Calls, English voice clips and even their full alternate color sets, a lot of information is already floating around for these characters. With the first 11 DLC characters who will make up Evo’s competitive roster all currently released, it seems likely that we could possibly see the ninth character introduction trailer for Cross Character Pack 4 — though keep in mind that nothing about the upcoming stream’s contents has been confirmed.

We’ll all just have to tune in at twitch.tv/arcsystemworks at 4:00 AM PT/6:00 AM CT/7:00 AM ET to find out exactly what they have planned for us.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is available now on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

See full color sets for all nine unannounced BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle DLC characters

The leaks appear to just keep on springing for the remaining nine upcoming DLC characters for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. It seems that the recent version 1.11 patch for PlayStation 4 may have also brought with it some new data for the currently-unannounced fighters — as now each of their 16 colors, including the three paid DLC palettes, has been revealed.

Though we’ve already seen Lobby Avatars and heard English voice clips for most of them, this latest development now fully cements that the final characters — that will be released in Cross Character Packs 4-6,  following the conclusion of Evo 2018 — are: BlazBlue’s Izayoi, Nine The Phantom, and Mai Natsume, Persona 4 Arena’s Mitsuru Kirjo, Akihiko Sanada, and Labrys, and Under Night In-Birth’s Yuzuriha Sougetsu, Merkava, and Mika Returna. It should also be noted that attempting to play as any of these fighters has been said to make the game crash — including Mika, whom footage was captured of previously, so they’re not ready just yet. Additionally, no additional data has been found for the rumored Senran Kagura duo of Yumi and Asuka, potentially suggesting that they’ve been scrapped or that ASW is being extremely coy. You can see the full video, as well as tweets from Bonus-Run, below. Color references appear to be as follows:

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s version 1.11 patch fixes bugs and changes attack attributes on PlayStation 4

The PlayStation 4 version of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle has been updated to version 1.11, marking the title’s first notable post-launch patch. Though the update was mainly about cleaning up bugs, there were a few small character changes that may impact the current meta, as several fighters have had the attack attributes of certain moves changed to better match with the attacks’ visual animations.

Characters impacted by this update include: BlazBlue’s Noel Vermillion, Rachel Alucard, Platinum The Trinity, and Makoto Nanaya, Persona 4 Arena’s Yu Narukami, Yosuke Hamaura, Kanji Tatsumi, Naoto Shirogane, and Aegis (whose Personas will now correctly face towards the opposition during various Smart Combos), Under Night In-Birth’s Gordeau, Orie, and Vatista, and the entirety of Team RWBY. Additionally, Gordeau’s pesky B Assimilation Infinite (that appeared to only work on fellow In-Birth Linne) has also been removed, as the float value for the move is now universal across all characters. Unfortunately, as has been the case with Dragon Ball FighterZ, this new patch will disable all Replay data saved from the previous version of the game. You can read the full patch notes below;  there has been no official word, as of this writing, on when this patch will roll out to the Nintendo Switch and Steam versions.

Decode all of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s reference colors with this Google Document from reddit

Since the release of Persona 4 Arena, Arc System Works has maintained a fun tradition of including various alternate colors in their various fighting games that serve as references to other properties. These can range from homages to characters from the series that started it all, Guilty Gear, to BlazBlue characters, various members of the Persona franchise, and even various other properties such as Bleach and My Hero Academia, to Western animation like RWBY. Even Dragon Ball FighterZ has gotten in on the reference action, with each Z Warrior’s 2nd color serving as a shout-out to a previous outfit they wore, or another character from the franchise.

With BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle combining characters from four different franchises, it’s no surprise that it boasts a myriad of references from a large variety of material, with each character having a whopping six reference palettes each, located on Colors 8-13.

For all non-Persona characters, Color 8 serves as a reference to various characters from ASW’s flagship fighting franchise, Guilty Gear, while the Persona fighters gain new colors referencing various characters from their RPG series. Color 9 is a reference to the BlazBlue cast, while Color 9 is a universal homage to Persona. Colors 10 and 11 are brand-new tributes to the characters of Under Night In-Birth and RWBY, ensuring all four core franchises are recognized.

Color 13 is perhaps the most interesting, as they are various unrelated references to a variety of different properties, from Disney films, to Cartoon Network shows like Steven Universe and Adventure Time, to even non-fighting games like Overwatch. Carmine and Gordeau even pay respects to fellow fighting game characters Morrigan Aensland (from Darkstalkers) and the X-Men’s Gambit. However, there are two interesting patterns, with the members of the Investigation Team receiving references to their successors, Persona 5’s Phantom Thieves, while P3’s Aegis gains an Elizabeth color — which makes her Persona resemble Igor, the master of the Velvet Room. Meanwhile, Team RWBY’s Weiss and Blake receive colors of their respective inspirations, Snow White and Belle, while Ruby and Yang don the color schemes of their mothers, Summer Rose and Raven Branwen.

Since the game’s release the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle subreddit has created a Google Document to list each and every one of these special colors by character, with image links for easy viewing.

Which reference colors are your favorite? Did you think there were any missed opportunities with them? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Razer Panthera arcade stick spotted at E3 2018, labeled “coming soon”

Could this upcoming new peripheral possibly signal continued support for the latest entry in the Vs. Series?

Things have unfortunately been extremely quiet on the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite front. The final three announced DLC characters — Black Widow, Winter Soldier, and Venom — arrived last December, with the game receiving its last major update in late January. There was a recent update made to the game, but it was predicted to have simply removed anti-piracy software and nothing more has come of it. Both companies remain completely silent on any sort of concrete future for the title, despite mostly-reputable leaker Dasvergeben predicting a Season 2 DLC character lineup of Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, Gill, Asura, Lady, and Vergil that still has yet to materialize. However, it appears that Razer is set to release a brand-new arcade stick based off of the crossover title, as a Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite-branded Razer Panthera was spotted on the E3 2018 show floor at the Capcom booth, with stick aficionado Mark “MarkMan” Julio claiming the art direction for it.

Sporting the latest game’s logo, as well as some gorgeously re-imagined wrap-around artwork based off an old promotional piece from 1999’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (but featuring Infinite’s roster) the item was interestingly labeled as “coming soon,” meaning that we’ll hopefully be able to get our hands on this stylish gaming accessory in the near future.

Though it may not be the exact news players and fans want to hear when it comes to MAHVEL, this is hopefully a positive sign that the project hasn’t been outright abandoned, and that we could still see further support for Infinite down the line. You can view tweets and photos of the new Razer Panthera model below.

There is no word on when this item will release or how much it will cost, but we’ll keep you updated right here on Shoryuken if there are any concrete announcements.

Enjoy team-specific interactions for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s first 11 DLC characters

Last month, we brought you a compilation of all team-specific intros, outros and victory conversations between the 20 base roster characters of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, courtesy of rooflemonger. With the release of Cross Character Packs 2 and 3, we now have even more special dialogue to share for these seven new challengers. Dialogue for the trio of Cross Character Pack 1 and Blake Belladonna has also been included, which you can enjoy in full English below.

There are definitely a few surprising and hilarious combinations, like Azrael and Yang Xiao Long, Naoto Shirogane and Hazama, Nu-13 and Vatista, Aegis and Ruby Rose or Iron Tager, Carmine Prime and Yukiko Amagi, Hakumen and Yu Narukami, and Jubei and Blake, just to name a few. There’s even a special four-character intro between the fully-reunited Team RWBY, regardless of pairings, which is a really nice touch for fans of the series.

For more on upcoming DLC characters, you can have a look at some datamined Lobby Avatars, as well as English audio clips for unreleased warriors, such as BlazBlue’s Nine The Phantom and Mai Natsume, Persona 4 Arena’s Labrys, and Under Night In-Birth’s Merkava and Yuzuriha Sougetsu. There is also an interesting glitch with Naoto’s Death Spells turning her opponents invisible.
