VesperArcade analyzes Necalli’s new V-Trigger specials & reported balance changes in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

We’re now less than two weeks away from the dawn of a new era (for SFV, at least!) with Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, and VesperArcade continues his analysis videos covering each character’s new V-Triggers and reported balance changes — while we await Capcom’s release of the full changelog. This time, Vesper examines “The Soul Consuming Darkness”: Necalli.

Given that his V-Trigger, Torrent of Power, is arguably one of the most unique — and most powerful — in the entirety of the game, and the title’s only “permanent” Trigger (providing the ancient warrior with a multitude of passive buffs in exchange for merely being locked out of his V-Reversal for the remainder of the round), many were curious about how they would top this with anything close to an enticing alternative.

Fortunately for him, Capcom decided to merely give Necalli access to a pair of new specials tied to his Trigger choice, as opposed to altering or forcing him to give up his powerful transformation. TOP will now grant him access to a new attack known as Clouded Mirror, which can be charged by holding down the heavy buttons to increase the length of his new forward leap — which appears to serve as a way to avoid projectiles, bait throws, and further close the gap on his foes, something that has proved problematic for him in certain match-ups.

His new V-Trigger, Explosion of Power, replaces Clouded Mirror with another new attack, the Heart of Gold, which sees Necalli spit out a short-range fireball that hits five times and is plus on block — seemingly compensating the spirit-consumer for the upcoming loss of his throw loops and knockdown advantage following forward dashes in Season 3. You can see the full video below for more details, and visual demonstrations.

X-Kira reveals the Illuminati course of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s “Boss Rush” mode, possible Gill Character Story

Fresh off of his recent datamining bombs about the rapidly-approaching Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, X-Kira has uploaded a video of him running through the Illuminati course of the supposedly-upcoming Boss Rush mode.

Over the course of the run he takes on Nash, Helen (Kolin in her default attire, without a character portrait), Urien (in both his default and “Easter Egg” attires), Kolin (in her Nostalgic Costume) and… Gill (who, despite currently using Urien’s voice clips and possibly his moveset, lacks a character portrait, and appears to be the model seen in the post-credits stinger of A Shadow Falls, not Urien’s 2017 Halloween costume designed to resemble his brother… though it could just be a Urien utilizing Extra Battle-exclusive abilities to simulate a clash against the President). Also surprisingly, X-Kira utilizes Decapre inside the Underground Arena, perhaps suggesting that the Shadaloo Dolls may be playable in this mode once it becomes available.

X-Kira also mentions that there are at least nine paths to Boss Rush, with the first being against Shadaloo, the second being this one against the Illuminati, a third featuring S.I.N., a fourth going up against Neo Shadaloo, a 6th where we’ll battle civilians (likely including Brazilian police officer Peter…), and a seventh path where we’ll face off with members of Mad Gear, which in-game notably only includes Abigail, for the moment. The contents of the fifth, eighth and ninth paths are currently unknown.

On the subject of Gill’s appearance, X-Kira noted the following: “The script calls the character Gill, but I did a patch to complete the mode. I do not think it’s just a reskin, however the mode leaves Urien reskin naked too, it means Gill will have clothes like Urien and will have the Easter Egg naked…”

Lastly, X-Kira posted a second video showing what appears to be a slot for an eventual Character Story for Gill, appearing in the spot directly underneath Menat’s, after Zeku’s. Though this spot will obviously go to Sakura once AE is officially released, Gill’s tab could certainly be moved into another row when/if it releases. Perhaps these are two indicators that the cult leader could be making an appearance in Season 3, either as part of the rumored second Cinematic Story Mode, or as a Secret Boss in the Street Fighter III Arcade Ladder? You can see both videos below.

Meet the members of Final Fight 3’s Skull Cross Gang in the latest batch of CFN Portal profiles

After taking a near-three month break after finishing the Mad Gear Gang members seen in Final Fight 2, the CFN Portal site returned to give us the 250th character profile. To celebrate this milestone, Shadaloo’s research files have turned to the members of the Skull Cross Gang, seen in 1995’s Final Fight 3.

After the final destruction of the Mad Gear following Retsu’s defeat at the end of FF2, the various street gangs began battling for power throughout Metro City, as there was now a vacancy at the top of the criminal underworld. In the end, a subordinate of Mad Gear, known as the Skull Cross Gang, reigned supreme — causing massive riots and looting throughout the streets of Metro, due to their vast expansion. This forced Mayor Mike Haggar to take to the streets once again, alongside Guy (fresh from his training and battle with Zeku during Street Fighter Alpha 2), along with Lucia and Dean, to continue protecting his city.

Today, we look at the first of the game’s seven bosses, Dave, a corrupt cop similar to Edi E. As always, the ever-loyal Private Nakagawa has returned to provide narration of Shadaloo’s latest intel.

Private Nakagawa: “A cop who’s rumored to have connections with a criminal group. He takes along with him a group of hoodlums and threatens and blackmails everyone, doing whatever he pleases. HE’S REALLY A BAD GUY!!“

Name: Dave
Height: 201cm
Weight: 166kg
Blood Type: A
Birthday: August 20th
Country of Origin: USA
Likes: Money, Squandering
Dislikes: Saving

Private Nakagawa: “His specialties are his Hip Attack and striking with his tonfa. His base of operations is a petrol station, where he gathers smugglers to carry out his various evil deeds. He owns a refurbished patrol car and various monster trucks. This has attracted the attention of hot-blooded police officer Lucia.”

Next up is the corrupt English barkeep and bouncer who owns the establishment the Skull Cross Gang frequent, Callman.

Private Nakagawa: “The owner of a bar named Club Sims, who also doubles as its bouncer. He collects info all about Metro City. He has a finely chiseled physique, so all of his attacks are extremely powerful!

Callman-SFV-FF3

Basic Info:

Name: Callman
Height: 215cm
Weight: 152kg
Blood Type: B
Birthday: November 23rd
Country of Origin: UK
Likes: Comfortable shirts
Dislikes: People who don’t even try

Private Nakagawa: “He speaks in a clam, gentle, tone, but is terribly scary when angered. His subordinates call him ‘Mr. Callman.’ He has a very high sense of professionalism, and when there’s something to do, he always fulfills his duty. His bar’s most popular menu item is Fish & Chips, a typical dish of his hometown prepared by frying white fish in peanut oil. It fits well with black beer. (I don’t know what to present anymore!)”

Next up is the Skull Cross Gang’s mechanic, and a certified grease monkey, Caine.

Private Nakagawa: “A hunchback man who attacks with tools. He hates to socialize. It seems he’s on the payroll of a certain organization.”

Caine-FF3-SFV

Basic Info:

Name: Caine
Height: 214cm
Weight: 160kg
Blood Type: Unknown
Birthday: Unknown
Country of Origin: USA
Likes: Breaking Things
Dislikes: Boredom

Private Nakagawa: “Dismantling machinery has always been his hobby since childhood. His father used to work in a car factory, and Caine spent his days stealthily stealing his father’s tools to disassemble and reassemble various machineries. To secure machines for his favorite pastime, he ran away from home and settled in a scrapyard. He has enough power to bend steel barehanded, but his style of brawling is self-taught because he has no fighting experience.”

That brings an end to another round of CFN Portal profiles. We’ll likely see the other four FF3 bosses as we get into the New Year. Do you have any fond memories of battling these three? If so, share your stories in the comments below.

Possible BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle leaks could reveal the characters included in the next four Impacts

It’s looking like the next two months are going to absolutely huge for the upcoming BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. With the BB quartet of Iron Tager, Makoto Nanaya, Nu-13, and Es being revealed during this month’s Arc Nama stream, a new playable build of the game being available at next month’s Evo Japan, and the Arc System Works Twitter account recently noting that there would be “Tons of news coming soon,” a recently-sprung leak could potentially come to fruition over the course of the next few months. Though, as always, these should be taken with a big grain of salt.

A 4chan poster claiming to be a member of the game’s localization team at the new Arc System Works North American branch — which will be publishing the title as the first game under their new umbrella — has decided to supposedly leak the next four character reveal Impacts taking place in January and February. According to them, the next sets of characters are as follows:

January 19th’s monthly Arc Nama stream announcements:

  • Hakumen
  • Kanji Tatsumi
  • Orie “Harada”

Evo Japan trailer announcements:

  • Jubei
  • Yuuki Terumi
  • Teddie
  • Tohru Adachi
  • Seth
  • Hilda

RTX Sydney announcements:

  • Platinum The Trinity
  • Bang Shishigami
  • Blake Belladonna

February 16th monthly Arc Nama stream reveals:

  • Valkenhayn R. Hellsing
  • Labrys
  • Merkava

They further claim that there will be an English dub for all characters, including the Under Night In-Birth cast (who have never previously had one before). Additionally, it is claimed that Rooster Teeth asked the American branch to abandon their plan of including BlazBlue‘s Relius Clover, as they were concerned they may add his Astral Heat to the game (even though Astrals/IKs are not currently present in the game right now), and they did not wish to see it performed on the RWBY characters. When specifically asked about Naoto Shirogane’s presence, the poster noted that, “The entire Investigation Team will make it in, I’m just giving what I know so far in terms of dates and announcements.”

Finally, they note that the team is currently expecting a September 2018 release for the game. Yang is still being worked on, and will be revealed at another RTX event, claiming that “the roster is going to be bigger than what most people expect,” and even gave what could be a few details about the game’s Story mode: “Story mode hasn’t been 100% finished, but so far, Es somehow causes each world to meet each other. Timeline-wise it takes place in an alternate version of Central Fiction‘s story, after Ultimax, somewhere in the middle of Under Night In-Birth‘s story and during Volume 3 of RWBY.”

Though some of the development details could prove questionable, this is a very organized list, and by providing specific dates and characters in regards to upcoming reveals, we’ll be able to determine whether this leak lives or dies in just a couple of weeks. You can also see ASW YouTuber Koefficient’s thoughts on these developments below:

What are your thoughts on this leak? Would you like to see this group of characters make it in, or are you hoping for others? Let us know in the comments.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle will be released for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC sometime in 2018.

X-Kira datamining: 20+ stages, Boss Rush mode, & Edition Select possibly coming to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Notable Brazilian data miner X-Kira returned towards the end of last month with more big discoveries to close out 2017. With Street Fighter V on the cusp of finally receiving the much-demanded Arcade Mode later this month, it appears that Capcom is planning to increase the amount of nostalgic stages available in the game even further, especially with four of the upcoming Season 3 DLC characters being returning veterans.

X-Kira claims that upwards of 20 new arenas will be making their way to SFV:AE in the coming months, with his list currently being as follows:

  • Final Fight: Metro City Slums, U.S.A. (Cody stage)
  • Street Fighter II: Battle Harbor, U.S.A. (Ken stage)
  • Street Fighter II: Amazon River Basin, Brazil (Blanka stage)
  • Street Fighter II: Big Factory, Russia (Zangief stage)
  • Street Fighter II: Maharaja’s Palace, India (Dhalsim stage)
  • Street Fighter II: Ayutthaya Temple Ruins, Thailand (Sagat stage)
  • Street Fighter Alpha 2: Beijing, China (Chun-Li stage)
  • Street Fighter Alpha 2: Detroit Highway, U.S.A. (Nash stage)
  • Street Fighter Alpha 2: W.C. in the London underground, England (Birdie stage)
  • Street Fighter Alpha 2: Field in a Thunderstorm, Australia
  • Street Fighter Alpha 2: Ridge Overlooking Guyana Falls, Venezuela (M. Bison stage)
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3: Hana Shotengai, Japan (Karin & Sakura stage)
  • Street Fighter III: New Generation: A Road in Kyoto, Japan (Ibuki stage)
  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike: Olmec Ruins, Mexico (Urien stage)
  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike: Subway Station, U.S.A. (Alex stage)
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: Russia (Kolin stage)
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: Neo Shadaloo, Unknown Location (Ed stage)
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: Egypt (Menat stage)
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: “Strider” Base (Zeku stage)
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: Neo Shadaloo Headquarters, Unknown Location (Falke stage?)
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: Shadaloo Corridor A
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: “Rainbow Ring” Japan (Rainbow Mika stage)
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: Nguhhao Palace (F.A.N.G stage)

Though nothing is ever fully concrete until officially confirmed by Capcom themselves, X-Kira insists on Twitter that “All these stages are 100% confirmed, for the future, just wait, and the list is not over yet!”

His most recent pair of discoveries are just as equally interesting. X-Kira recently posted a video of what looks to be him running through the DEV version of a “Boss Rush” mode, which could potentially be tied to the upcoming Extra Battle mode. As Kolin, we can see Kira battle Cinematic Story NPCs, such as the low, mid, and high-ranking Shadaloo Soldiers, Shadaloo Dolls Enero, Fevrier, Marz, Aprile, Satsuki, Juli, Santamu, Decapre, and Phantom Bison inside the Ring of Destiny, noting that, “in this mode you challenge the gangs, Shadaloo, Illuminati, S.I.N. and Neo Shadaloo, and there is also another script that controls only the good guys, but this script is incomplete and it crashes constantly.”

Finally, X-Kira appears to have uncovered some form of Edition Select, a mode last seen in Ultra Street Fighter IV that allowed players to utilize previous versions of every character throughout the series, allowing for previously-impossible dream match-ups between fighters from different eras of the game. He demonstrates this via a few R. Mika, Nash, and Zangief combos, as well as an online Battle Lounge match, where he uses Season 2.5 M. Bison against -Fenix-‘s Season 1 incarnation of the Mighty Dictator, which you can see below.

What do you think of these potential developments? Are you excited to see these stages possibly return, or are their others you’re still yearning for? Let us know in the comments.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will be released on January 16th, as both a free update for current SFV owners, and as a separate purchase for those looking to jump right in.

Divine Justice, Time-Skips and a Destroyer’s wrath: All of the anime, manga and Xenoverse 2 references for Goku Black, Hit and Beerus in Dragon Ball FighterZ

With the recent reveals of the Dragon Ball Super trio of Goku Black, Hit and Beerus in Dragon Ball FighterZ, IKevinX has recently released reference videos for the new warriors.

First up is Goku Black, the current form of Present Zamasu, the Supreme Kai Apprentice of Universe 10, who used the Super Dragon Balls to switch bodies with Goku, before beginning the “Zero Mortals Plan” with Future Zamasu. Battling exclusively in his Super Saiyan Rose form, Black’s references are pulled solely from the anime and his Xenoverse 2 incarnation, forgoing his Super manga appearance entirely.

Naturally drawing on all of his anime battles, we see Black’s barbaric fighting style on full display, with his Launcher and Medium Auto Combos coming straight from XV2, while his Instant Transmission, God Slicer and Black Kamehameha, as well as the Fierce God Kick (which IKevinX affectionately dubs the “Savage Kick,”) are all accounted for with the usual stunning accuracy. Not to be left out, Black also has some tandem offense with Future Zamasu, such as the Binding Black Kamehameha, where he forced Goku and Future Trunks to eat the charged beam by grabbing them from behind, surviving the impact due to his immortal body. The God Slicer Dance, Holy Light Grenade and even his ultimate attack, the reality-destroying Work Of The Gods, is seen as his Level 3.

In contrast, both Hit and Beerus utilize references from the manga, with the Universe 6 assassin’s battles with Super Saiyan Blue Goku, Vegeta and Frost, as well as his recent encounter with the Pride Troopers during the on-going Tournament Of Power being drawn upon for inspiration. His Time-Skip abilities, such as Jump Spike, Tremor Pulse, Flash Skewer, Back Breaker, and Time Freeze have manifested as Counters, with his Phantom Fist serving as a dodge of sorts. Time Skip/Molotov also serves as his Level 3.

Universe 7’s God of Destruction, Beerus, rounds out this lineup, primarily drawing on his fights with Goku, Vegeta and Buu, in both Dragon Ball Super and Battle Of Gods.  Utilizing his Cataclysmic Orbs, Sneeze Blasts, the Palm Energy Infusion Explosion, God of Destruction’s Wrath, the Beerus Ball and — of course– Hakai, the Destroyer has a fittingly powerful move set.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in North America and Europe on January 26th, 2018. A Japanese release will follow on the same platforms February 1st. An open beta test will be held on January 14th-15, with digital pre-orders getting in on the 13th.

Dragon Ball FighterZ’s Anime Music & Commentator Voice Packs receive release windows from Bandai Namco

Earlier this year, we reported that the upcoming Dragon Ball FighterZ would be getting released in a variety of different editions, including a $110, Digital-exclusive, Ultimate Edition. This package will include the game, FighterZ pass, and previously-announced pre-order bonuses (such as a day of early access to next month’s open beta and early unlocks for Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku and Vegeta), in addition to an exclusive Anime Music Pack, featuring 11 iconic tunes from throughout the history of the series, as well as a Commentator Voice Pack.

Unfortunately, this special DLC has seemed to hit a bit of a snag, and will be delayed until later into 2018. However, Bandai Namco US has provided us with updated release windows, and has also promised to include four additional stamps and one additional Lobby Avatar with this package “as a token of [their] appreciation.”

The Anime Music Pack will be made available by Thursday, March 1st, while the Commentator Voice Pack should be available by Sunday, April 15th. No details were given as to when these Packs will be sold individually to other players, but we can hope that they won’t be to far behind these new UE dates. You can view the tweets below.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released outside of Japan on January 26th, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC. A release in the Land of the Rising Sun will follow on February 1st on those same platforms. In the meantime, you can check out the game’s opening cinematic here!

New DLC character for The King of Fighters XIV playable at SNK’s Evo Japan booth next month

SNK announced that a new playable DLC character would be available for the first time at their booth at next month’s Evo Japan, in a new “Version 3.0” build of the game. The free event will be held in Ikebukuro on January 26th and 27th. Most interestingly was the inclusion of a Joker playing card graphic, indicating that this will not be the Saudi Arabian female fighter contest-winning design, (which will also include a new Masmak Fort stage) we reported on previously, but an additional new challenger set to enter the fray.

Though no further details were given, the fact this update is being labeled “Version 3.0” could suggest a new wave of balance changes — and perhaps even more exciting content could be on the horizon in 2018. You can see the announcement tweet below, along with some examples of what Oswald and Ash — possible contenders for returning characters, considering the Joker card — were capable of in past installments.

Evo Japan takes place January 26th – 28th in Tokyo.
