Busan 9th Esports World Championship 2017 results

While the headline stories in the world of Tekken were the Tekken World Tour Finals taking place in San Francisco, as well as the reveal of Final Fantasy XV protagonist Noctis as the game’s second guest DLC character, the battle to determine a King of Iron Fist champion was also raging in Busan, South Korea this past Saturday at the 9th Esports World Championship. This is a yearly event hosted by the International Esports Foundation, as they look to put on a special competition that is primarily aimed at bringing different countries together in a contest for national supremacy — with Tekken 7 serving as this year’s chosen battlefield.

As such, only one player from each participating country could participate in the bracket, as they were decided by a series of qualifiers in their homelands. The battles were a race to four until competitors reached the semi-final rounds, where things changed into a first-to-five format.

Reach out to the Truth once again! Persona 4 Arena is now Xbox One backwards compatible

One of the most notable features of Microsoft’s Xbox One is the Backwards Compatibility Program, which allows users to play various titles from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 on the company’s newest console — offering an ever-growing list of over 450 classic titles spanning every genre imaginable. This has proven to be fantastic news for fighting game fans, as titles like Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Tekken 6, Virtua Fighter 2, Street Fighter IV, The King of Fighters Neowave and more are available to be enjoyed digitally by veterans and newcomers alike.

The P-1 Grand Prix now resumes with the Xbox 360 version of 2012’s Persona 4 Arena, the original collaborative work between ATLUS and Arc System Works. Earlier today, it was announced as the latest fighting title to join the service, alongside other games such as Cars: Mater-National, Jewel Quest and Tecmo Bowl Throwback. Unfortunately, the 2014 sequel, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax has not become part of the Program yet, but that will hopefully change in the near future. You can see the announcement tweet from Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, below — and you can also jump back into the TV World as a Games On Demand title for a cool $29.99 on the Xbox 360 Marketplace, if you don’t already own it.

Fittingly enough, it has also been announced that another Persona 4 Arena character — likely the Investigation Team’s Yukiko Amagi — will be amongst the next round of character reveals for the upcoming BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle this Friday.

Meet the 22nd World Martial Arts Champion with Tien’s anime and manga references for Dragon Ball FighterZ

For the next round of his anime and manga reference videos for the ever-increasing cast of Dragon Ball FighterZ, IKevinX looks at the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament Champion — and one of the original Z Fighters — Tien Shinhan.

Having his own titular Saga in the original Dragon Ball, as well as being on the front lines during the Siayan Saga, his given the developers quite a bit to work with — despite the fact that he’s wearing his new attire from Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ and Super. As such, most of his moveset comes from his legendary battles in the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament against the likes of Yamcha, Jackie Chun and, of course, Goku. Though he also draws on moves used in various video games, his fight with King Piccolo’s son Drum, the Dodonpa, which he only used once in the original manga, and of course assists from Chiaotzu.

We also see his Level 3/Meteor Attack, the Neo Tri-Beam, which was used to pin down Semi-Perfect Cell in a desperate last stand to prevent him from absorbing Android 18 (which in-game will cost his very life force to empower, in exchange for doing massive damage to your foes).

As always, you can see the full video below, along with links to all of IKevinX’s coverage for other characters in DBFZ.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released outside of Japan on January 26th, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC, with standard, FighterZ, Ultimate and CollectorZ Editions. A Japanese release will follow on February 1st for the same platforms. An open beta test will also occur sometime before the title’s full release.

TeamFourStar tackles the Dragon Ball FighterZ closed beta in a recent edition of “TFS Plays”

It’s no secret that Scott “KaiserNeko” Frerichs, Nick “Lanipator” Landis, Curtis “Takahata101” Arnott and Lawrence “MasakoX” Simpson have made quite the name for themselves as the co-creators and voice actors of the widely-popular parody series Dragon Ball Z Abridged. Over the years, they’ve provided fans and newcomers to the franchise alike countless hilarious moments with their fan-based online parody. They’ve even caught the eye of Funimation, who handles the licensing and English dub of the series here in the States, to record an Abridged voice pack for Nappa in Xenoverse 2, as well as getting to voice a scene in the dub of Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters.

In addition to their parody work, the group also possesses a gaming channel, “TFS Plays,” with one of their recent streams focusing on them playing the Dragon Ball FighterZ closed beta. So today, we bring you a highlight reel of some of their best clips, some of which include Lanipator playing a match with the team of Vegeta/Piccolo/Krillin (all three of whom he voices in Abridged) while “in character,” as well as an extremely hype match against a powerful Team Androids player, VelinciaMune.

However, be warned that since it IS TeamFourStar, there is a good amount of NSFW language throughout, so exercise caution if you’re at work.

Android 16 looks to defend nature in his Dragon Ball FighterZ character trailer

Bandai Namco Entertainment America has recently released another character trailer for their upcoming collaboration with Arc System Works, Dragon Ball FighterZ. This time they tackle the recently-revived, “defective” peaceful cyborg — who seems to be playing a large part in Android 21’s machinations — Android 16.

The quick snippet of gameplay gives a look at some of the cybernetic grappler’s command throws, ki blasts (which involve him removing his hand to expose a blaster in his arm), as well as one of his destructive Level 3 supers, the Full Power Hell’s Flash.

You can see the full trailer below. Don’t forget to check out introductory character trailers for the two newest villains, Captain Ginyu and Nappa — as well as Maximilian’s full character breakdown on 16 — to discover his full capabilities.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in North America and Europe on January 26th, 2018 (in standard, FighterZ, Deluxe and CollectorZ Editions) for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC. A Japanese release on those same platforms will follow on February 1st. An open beta test will also be held sometime before the title’s full release.

Stand at attention for all of the Ginyu Force’s anime and manga references in Dragon Ball FighterZ

All of you prospective Ginyu Force members, stand at attention, for your Captain has arrived in Dragon Ball FighterZ! IKevinX tackles the recently-revealed Captain Ginyu in his latest anime and manga reference video — appropriately set to their Japanese theme, because Ginyu Force rules! Like any good leader with a loyal squadron, Ginyu will never enter battles alone, (despite already having two teammates) as the entire Force: Guldo, Recoome, Burter, and Jeice will all be by his side to create, as the developers describe,” the feeling of playing five characters at once.”

From their iconic introductory pose when arriving on Planet Namek, to Ginyu’s newest pose he created to greet Frieza following his glorious return (in Tagoma’s body), to Dragon Ball Super, every bit of charm and hilarious flamboyance of the five most elite warriors of the Frieza Force appears to be lovingly preserved.

Of course, this courtesy is further extended to his subordinates — who, based off what we’ve seen, will make up a large portion of the Captain’s moveset: each busting out their signature attacks such as the Recoome Eraser Gun, Jeice’s Crusher Ball, Guldo’s Time Stop, Burter’s Blue Hurricane, as well as the Purple Spiral Flash. These are all on display, along with Ginyu’s signature Milky Cannon and Body Change serving as his Supers.

IKevinX also hopes to have a Tien video out soon. You can catch the video, and begin the Dance of Joy, below.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in North America and Europe on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC on January 26th, 2018, with a Japanese release on the same platforms following on February 1st.

Prepare for the hunt with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite character tutorials for Sigma, Black Panther, & Monster Hunter

Leading up to the release of Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite, Capcom UK Community Manager Matt “The Street Writer” Edwards, along with FingerCramp and Unequalled Media, released a series of character tutorials for each member of the game’s 30-chracter launch roster. Now that they’ve been out in the wild for a few weeks, it’s time to move on to the first round of DLC characters: Sigma, Black Panther, and Monster Hunter.

As always, these tutorials include a brief character introduction by Edwards, followed by a rundown of each warrior’s special moves, Hyper Combos and unique skills — like Sigma’s Overhead Laser Command normal or Monster Hunter’s dodge, which can make certain attacks safe by canceling their recovery frames, while also being a strong mix-up tool when she’s in Demon Mode.

Finally, Matt provides prospective players with both a simple and advanced combo, as usual, displayed at both normal and half-speeds, before finishing the tutorial with an Infinity Stone recommendation. You can see all three videos — which also include a listen to each character’s theme — as well as finding links to all previous tutorials, below.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Character tutorials for future DLC characters Black Widow, Winter Soldier, and Venom will undoubtedly follow once they’re released.

Ed Boon releases a teaser image of the Injustice 2 Fighter Pack 3 trailer on Twitter

NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon has tweeted out a picture from the upcoming Fighter Pack 3 reveal trailer that will be unveiled during the ELEAGUE Injustice 2 World Championship Finals this Friday, at 10:00 PM ET, live on TBS. In the tweet, Boon asks, “Who beat up Black Manta?” showing the fallen enemy of Atlantis sprawled on the floor, with a busted, leaking oil barrel in plain sight. We can also see what appears to be the hand of an also-defeated Raiden and a lone, smoking, cigarette — the calling card of Hellboy, as seen when he appeared from the shadows in the Fighter Pack 2 trailer.

While it could be difficult to hazard a correct guess based off of these clues, since all three members of Fighter Pack 1 were shown being bested by their debuting DLC counterparts in the FP2 trailer, perhaps the cigarette and potentially burning oil can point towards John Constantine: the, arcane London-based Hellblazer, who specializes in matters of the occult as a working class detective? The character is extremely popular, with him playing a pivotal role in the Injustice: Gods Among Us comics, and being slated to appear in The CW’s Legends Of Tomorrow series alongside the already-revealed Atom. Already being seen in both Doctor Fate and Raiden’s Battle Simulator endings, he could easily scratch the itch of former Zatanna mains (like myself), who are yearning for a replacement character.

The flaming inferno could also be for a fourth guest character in the form of Image Comic’s Spawn, another popular guest NRS fans have been asking for in one of their fighting titles for quite some time now; he’s already seen fighting game action as a guest in Namco’s Soul Calibur II back in 2002. You can see the tweet below:

Who do you think will be joining Atom in Fighter Pack 3? Give us your thoughts and predictions in the comments below.

History Behind The Warrior tackles a tale of souls and swords by looking at SoulCalibur’s Nightmare

Looking to dive into some new subject matter, History Behind The Warrior recently released their first video discussing the SoulCalibur franchise, by looking at series antagonist Nightmare.

Serving as “more of a title that has been passed down from person to person, instead of being one singular being,” Nightmare is the designation given to the weidler of the demonic blade Soul Edge, who will eventually be corrupted and transformed by its power. Originally a normal sword before being bathed in a large amount of blood from countless wars, it became sentient, corrupting its users to commit murder to fuel its power — until it was obtained by the Hero King Algol, who could use the weapon without being corrupted by it. The blade was then lost to time, during which Algol forged SoulCalibur to destroy it, until resurfacing around the 16th Century in the possession of Cervantes. Following his defeat, and the sword’s subsequent discovery by Siegfried, Soul Edge would possesses and transform him into the new Nightmare, beginning a war between them that would last for decades. You can get the whole story in the video below.

History Behind The Warrior also revealed that Pyrrah, who became the host of Soul Edge following Nightmare’s defeat in SoulCalibur V, will also be getting her own video at some point in the future.
