Even more Mad Gear members take the stage in the latest Final Fight 2 CFN Portal profiles

The Final Fight 2 Mad Gear Gang CFN character profiles continue: as Private Nakagawa continues to unveil Shadaloo’s collected information on Retsu’s notorious gang, who nearly staged a coup of Metro City.

Next up on the list is Atlas.

Private Nakagawa: “His trained body is his weapon. The whole town fears him for his violent attitude. He drinks right from the morning, and is a troublesome fellow, who immediately comes to hug you.” [In FF2, Atlas did a very annoying Bear Hug.]

Atlas-FF2

Basic Info:

Name: Atlas
Height: 201cm
Weight: 120kg
Blood Type: 0
Birthday: June 22nd
Country of Origin: USA
Likes: Hot Women, Alcohol
Dislikes: Work

Private Nakagawa: “He played American Football at a university, and was a promising player. He also had interest in combat sports, and began to train in wrestling and sambo. Unfortunately, due to getting involved in a car accident, his professional sports career came to a halt. Nowadays, he indulges and drowns in alcohol and violence.”

Next, we move on to his partner, Jony:

Private Nakagawa: “A big guy who’s quick to take offense and lose his cool. Wow, scary! Haste makes waste!” [The Japanese expression 短期は損気 tanki wa sonki “Short temper is an inconvenience” is commonly translated this way — while not completely identical to the English one.]

Jony-FF2

Basic Info:

Name: Jony
Height: 204 cm
Weight: 128 kg
Blood type: unknown
Birthday: April 19
Country of Origin: USA
Likes: Tomato juice
Dislikes: Dark places

Private Nakagawa: “He gets along well with the town brute Atlas. He even wears the same accessories. He has a powerful palm strike [張り手 harite, the same basic sumō palm strike that Honda does as well, as his LP or MP.] and a characteristically threatening voice that he loudly uses to intimidate his opponents.”

Moving on, we take a look at Jack’s partner, Schot:

Private Nakagawa: “A man with a fired-up hairstyle. It’s incredibly mook-like!! One of those who go ‘yahoo!’ you know. [An evident reference to Fist of the North Star‘s standard mooks, perpetually grinning and screaming excitedly, and often sporting the same punk hairstyle.] …Oh, is he angry?”

Schot-FF2

Basic Info:

Name: Schot
Height: 182cm
Weight: 79kg
Blood Type: AB
Birthday: August 10th
Country of Origin: UK
Likes: Early Punk
Dislikes: Difficult Things

Private Nakagawa: “When he was young in his home country, he played in a punk band. The members went along well, and the band’s name was ‘Big B & Bullheads.’ Nowadays he has a job at a record shop specialized in punk. Also earns some pocket money working as an underling for a certain organization. He often causes trouble because of his attitude being prone to brawls.”

Finally, we move on to the last member of this incarnation of the Mad Gear Gang: Bull’s partner Elijah.

Private Nakagawa: “A man who serves as a smuggler for a criminal organization. Reports indicate that he’s tied to numerous organizations. It seems he’s able to be trusted, because he’s not only tight-lipped, but he also has a human side.”

Elijah-FF2

Basic Info:

Name: Elijah
Height: 179cm
Weight: 82kg
Blood Type: B
Birthday: October 20th
Country of Origin: USA
Likes: His Mom, His Bass
Dislikes: Raw Fish

Private Nakagawa: “His silky hair was his trademark, but his favorite hair conditioner went off production, and he’s worrying because his hair is becoming a little dry. Triggered by a superhero movie he’s recently seen, he began dressing smartly and wearing a goatee and a moustache. He lives in the downtown area with his mother. The two constantly quarrel, but that’s proof they’re close.”

That’s it for all of the Mad Gear Gang members — but characters like the Genryusai family and the Skull Cross Gang of 1995’s Final Fight 3 still have yet to be covered, so we’ll likely dive back into the streets of Metro City in the weeks and months ahead. You can check out some of the other Mad Gear members here.

Matt Dhalgren, Senior Product Manager for Capcom, leaves position after nearly a decade

In a piece of somber news, we’ve learned that Capcom’s Senior Product Manager of fighting games, Matt Dhalgren — who many may remember from his appearances as the host of  Cross Assault — will be departing the company after nearly a decade-long career.

Beginning with Capcom as an Associate Product Marketing Manager, “Matt Deezie’s” credits include assisting with the execution of marketing campaigns of various titles, such as MotoGP’08, Lost Planet 2, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Street Fighter X Tekken, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers and Street Fighter V, as well as the company’s highest-selling game of all-time, Resident Evil 5 and its Gold Edition.

His final credit with the company will be as the Director of Brand Marketing for the recently-released Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

Speaking to EventHubs, Matt noted that, “It is difficult for me to leave, but [I] am extremely grateful for my time spent at Capcom, and [am] excited for the next chapter of my career. I look forward to rooting for Capcom’s success as a fan.”

Dhalgren also mentioned that he has “grown here tremendously, both personally and professionally, and have been given the opportunity to work with so many truly amazing people. I’m very proud of the projects I was able to influence, most particularly our fighting games and launching the Capcom Pro Tour.” Dhalgren also served as one of the main producers behind the CPT and Capcom’s e-sports endeavors, in addition to being a popular source of public relations between Capcom and the fighting game community.

We here at Shoryuken would like to wish Matt Dhalgren all the best as he continues onward towards a new career path.

Throw your weight around with Maximilian’s Majin Buu character breakdown for Dragon Ball FighterZ

Concluding his character breakdowns of the currently-playable cast of Dragon Ball FighterZ, Maximilian arrives at the final major antagonist of Dragon Ball Z, the wizard Bibidi’s greatest creation, Majin Buu.

The pudgy Majin — as you would expect — boasts some pretty long normal attacks with his ability to stretch his limbs, in addition to having a unique command grab in the Potbelly Attack, where he detaches part of his body and uses it to restrain his foes. (Max was unfortunately unable to get footage of this move). His other specials involve him flailing about and throwing his massive weight around, similar to Abigail in Street Fighter V. Buu also possesses a cartwheel, affording him increased mobility options.

Buu’s level 1 super,”You Know What… I Hate You!” sees the giant Majin create a full-screen explosion that can trigger Destructive Finishes if it knocks out an opponent. His invincible level 3 involves the use of his signature Chocolate Beam, as Buu turns his opponent into a shortbread cookie — just as he did to Demon King Dabura — before consuming them for both massive damage and the ability to heal himself. You can see the full video below, as well as links to all of Max’s previous breakdowns.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in February 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC.

Ultron Sigma appears in Ranked Matches on the PC version of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Last month, we reported that PC Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite players were able to make boss characters Ultron Sigma and Ultron Omega playable. Fortunately at the time, players were simply using the fused mechanical monstrosities — who were clearly not intended to be played by humans — in Arcade Mode and vs. the CPU. However, this situation has already seemed to reach its next logical step, as a player by the name of Lily Pad Lady Pad Lucky Pad has brought Ultron Sigma into the world of Ranked Matches, replacing Hulk’s files to select the amalgamation.

Utilizing them alongside Doctor Strange and the Soul Stone, this player battled Milton “PRK Patron” Sanchez, who managed to secure a 2-0 victory with Mega Man X/Nemesis + Time, despite the odds, which he then uploaded to his Facebook account. You can see the full set of matches below, during which you’ll likely notice that neither Strange nor Ultron Sigma have call-out audio when tagging in each other.

It remains to be seen whether or not Capcom will address this exploit in an upcoming patch. Have you run into Ultron Sigma in any online matches? If so, how did you fare? Would you like to see a balanced, fully-playable version of the character released in the future? Sound off in the comments below.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is currently available in North America, Europe and Japan on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC.

Eradicate those filthy Saiyan monkeys with Maximilian’s Dragon Ball FighterZ Frieza character breakdown

Continuing his series of Dragon Ball FighterZ character breakdowns, Maximilian moves on to the most iconic and influential antagonist of the entire Dragon Ball franchise, Frieza, who seems to serve as the pure zoner of the revealed cast.

After noting that he possesses several multi-hitting normals — which allow him to create long pressure strings in conjunction with Assists — Max dives into the tyrant’s specials, which allow him to really shine from full-screen, as well as what he calls, “some of the most interesting super combos in the game,” which involve multiple Level 3s.

Frieza has the only true transformation in the game, as Golden Frieza is a Level 3 Install that increases his speed, in addition to a damage boost. Once the timer runs out, you can hold down certain buttons to summon Sorbet to a fire a laser from his ring for an extra bar.

You can see the full video below, as well as links to previous breakdowns.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in February 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC.

Capcom is aware of Spider-Man infinite in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, currently investigating solutions

After an infinite involving the Reality Stone’s Infinity Surge and Spider-Man’s HP Web Ball was recently discovered in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, many players were concerned about it’s potential negative impact on the game’s overall competitive longevity. Misfit Gaming’s Angelic began immediately calling for a ban on the loop, going so far as to preemptively ban it from next year’s Undefeated if it wasn’t removed by then. Fortunately, the Capcom Fighters Twitter account has been quick to respond, noting that the developers are currently aware of the loop and are in the midst of looking into some possible solutions on how to remove it, likely without having to weaken the Reality Stone or Spider-Man too significantly.

Some players, like James Chen, have suggested a fix of capping the Reality Stone’s Infinity Surge to only be able to be used twice in a single combo — after which the opponent will flip out, ending the combo, similarly to the Power Surge.

This is definitely good news for the MvC:I community, and hopefully Capcom will respond with more information soon. You can see the tweets below.

Marvel and Capcom discuss how they brought the gameplay to life in Part 3 of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite BTS

Marvel Entertainment’s behind-the-scenes look into the development and creative process of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite continues with Part 3, “Bringing the Game to Life.”

Once again, the game’s producer Mike Evans and Capcom Associate Brand Manager Brett Elston are joined this time by the Senior Producer of Marvel Games, Danny Koo, who specifically touched on something that’s proven to be a rather polarizing topic in the community: the new character themes.

“[The] Capcom side has their original theme music, and the natural course of action is to remix them and bring it more current, and on the Marvel side, we have decided that it should be classical influenced with rock, to make it more cinematic modern. With that in mind, we worked with the audio director and composer in Japan [Audio Director Kaori Oshima, Sound Designer Hiroshi Tamura, Audio Associate Producer Koutarou Hosoka and Kutan Kanno, who was in charge of sound design and implementation] and tried to understand each character’s personality in how we craft each piece.”

We also get a look at the original storyboards and initial animation from one of the first scenes in the Story Mode: where Ultron Sigma is fending off both Iron Man and Captain America during the initial battle we see in Xgard 88 days after the Convergence.

Evans then speaks on tuning the characters to ensure authentic gameplay, and the desire to push the game’s graphics forward on a new generation of consoles. This lead to the decision to abandon Marvel vs. Capcom 3‘s internal MT Framework engine to make full use of the graphical power of the Unreal Engine, which is seen in many top modern games in the fighting genre. They also discuss the wealth of modes in the game, which is much more robust than what Street Fighter V currently offers.

Brett Elston closed the piece by driving home how central Marvel’s six Infinity Stones are central to the entire MvC:I experience.

“So the Infinity Stones are central to everything in the game. They are a huge gameplay component, like when you strip all the story away, and you just get down to the nuts and bolts of this 2v2 fighting system — even after you pick your team — you still need to pick a Stone that either accentuates one of your strengths, or makes up for a weakness that you think your team might have.” Evans also added that, “The Infinity Stones are a huge core pillar to the gameplay. It’s one of the main aspects of the game that is really pushing it forward, and is different from anything we’ve done in the Versus series. We’re really excited to see how players take that, and just, you know, expand on the creativity and develop their own unique playstyle with the Infinity Stones.” You can see the entire 3-minute clip below, as well as links to the previous two parts of this series.

Capcom to make Street Fighter V and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite announcements at New York Comic Con this Friday

New York Comic Con is set kick off this coming weekend, and the event’s official website has just confirmed that Capcom will be in attendance to make some announcements about their two fighting games: Street Fighter V and the newly-released Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

With SFV recently receiving a September update with premium costumes and Cammy’s classic stage, as well as concept art being leaked for five of MvC:I’s upcoming DLC characters, this event seems like the perfect time to show off the final Season 2 DLC character for SFV –– widely believed to be Zeku — as well as what else could lie in store for Street Fighter V. In addition, we’re likely to see some reveal trailers — and perhaps some release dates — for some of Marvel’s DLC characters; NYCC saw the announcements for Street Fighter X Tekken and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in the past.

The official website notes that Capcom will be at the NYCC Live Stage, Booth 174 on Friday, October 6th, from 1:45-2:15 PM ET (10:45 AM PT), with the description of the event reading: “Capcom drops by the Twitch stage to show off the latest content from two of their popular fighting games.” Each game is scheduled for 15 minutes of air time with the Street Fighter V segment happening first. The announcements should be streamed on https://www.twitch.tv/twitch.

What are you most looking forward to potentially seeing from these announcements? Give us your personal predictions in the comments below.
