Fly into action with this trailer for the PlayStation 4 exclusive Major Carol Danvers costume in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

With the release date of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite continuing to creep up on us, the official PlayStation YouTube channel has released a trailer showcasing an exclusive piece of content that will be coming to the console, in the form of the Major Carol Danvers costume for new challenger Captain Marvel, previously announced last June.

Referencing her civilian past as an Air Force pilot — before she made contact with the explosion that gave her powers — this outfit equips her with a bomber jacket, shades, jeans, and an alternate hairstyle, as she unleashes the power of Binary on Evil Ryu and Gladiator Hulk inside Avengers Tower.

The costume will be available in the standard, Deluxe and Collector’s editions of the game (with the latter editions containing the 2017 Character Pass, some additional alternate costumes, and other premium collectible goodies).

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released on September 19th in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC. A Japanese release will follow on the same platforms on September 21st.

Menat’s orb and V-Trigger glitch can cause CPU opponents to stop attacking in Street Fighter V

As Street Fighter V‘s fifth Season 2 DLC character continues to make waves with players, a strange glitch involving her crystal ball has surfaced that allows the “Eyes Of The Future” to cause her AI opponents to stop all attacks against her.

Looygi has discovered that, when facing CPU foes, placing the crystal ball with Menat’s Soul Sphere will cause her computer-controlled adversaries to immediately cease all forms of offense. Instead of attacking, they will simply begin shimmying forward and backward around the stage. However, once Menat retrieves her ball with Soul Sphere: Ankh, the computer will immediately snap right back into action and resume fighting.

This strange phenomenon can also occur when Menat activates her V-Trigger, Wisdom Of Thoth, which summons six additional orbs around her body that are individually tied to each of the six attack buttons. This will cause the same ceasefire effect with the computer until all 6 orbs are released, which will then snap them back into the fight. Looygi tested all of this against a Zangief set at CPU Level 8, noting that this glitch works best at higher difficulty settings.

For those wondering if this can be utilized to breeze your way through Survival Mode with Menat, looygi said the following in the video’s comments. “Yes it does [work in Survival Mode]. The problem is that it works better on higher difficulty, but in Survival the CPU level is kind of random. So you can use this bug on Survival too, but it’s still not going to be easy to complete.” You can see the full video demonstrating the glitch below.

It will be interesting to see if Capcom patches this out when the final Season 2 DLC character arrives later this year. Give us your thoughts on this strange glitch in the comments below.

Core-A-Gaming analyzes how tournaments organizers make the perfect brackets

Competition has always been a constant driving force throughout human history. There has always existed an insatiable need within the human heart to prove one’s superiority over another person. Whether it be gladiators in the ancient Roman Colosseum, sports teams battling on their field of choice, or players squaring off in any type of game imaginable, players and spectators alike always want to know who is the absolute best. However, when it comes to truly determining this, the process can actually prove quite challenging.

Starting off by noting that he got 513th place out of 2,622 Street Fighter V players and 641st out of 1,278 Tekken 7 players this year at Evo, Gerald Lee begins a very intriguing and informative discussion about how these placings are essentially meaningless because they are shared with so many other people. He goes into the topics of seeding by tournament organizers looking to maintain the integrity of the event, so that the world’s best players don’t meet in round one of the bracket.

Lee also debates the merits of single-elimination/double-elimination vs. a round robin format, as well as the reason the FGC prides itself on running open bracket events. While invitationals like ELEAGUE’s Street Fighter event are becoming more popular, events like these reduce the chances of unknown players make big upsets.

It’s a great watch if you’re unfamiliar with how this process tends to work, or if you would just like a refresher course on everything. You can catch the video below, and be sure to give us your thoughts on the types of tournament formats you prefer, whether they be inclusive or exclusive, in the comments section below.

Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 to receive up to $3,000 in pot bonuses (due to Matcherino crowdfunding) at NEC 18

Earlier this week, Big E, the organizer behind the upcoming NEC18 tournament, tweeted out a poll asking fans which games should receive up to $3,000 added to their prize pools for the event, via a crowdfunding goal on Matcherino. The contenders were arguably the four biggest current titles in the fighting game community today: Street Fighter V, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Injustice 2, and Tekken 7. The results are in, with a total of 9,147 votes cast, and NetherRealm Studio’s DC universe fighter took the victory by an absolute landslide, scoring a whopping 65% of the votes cast. Tekken 7 will also receive a bonus by coming in second with 18%, while Capcom’s pair of flagship titles didn’t fare so well, with the soon-to-be-released MVC:I taking 3rd place with only 9% of the votes, while SFV comes in at dead last, with a mere 8%. You can see the tweet from Big E Gaming below.

This is certainly fantastic news for the NRS and Tekken communities and should make the annual end-of-the-year competition that much more fierce. Not to be left out of the party, Arc System Work’s Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 and BlazBlue: Central Fiction, which will both be main games at the event, will be getting a $300 and $100 pot bonus, respectively. SNK’s The King of Fighters XIV will also be receiving a $950 pot bonus, though these monetary values are subject to change.

NEC18 takes place on December 15-17 at the Valley Forge Casino Resort at 1160 First Avenue in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. More details about the event will be coming soon at http://bigegaming.com/nec-18/

Relive the ESL Dragon Ball FighterZ Tournament at Gamescom with this live recording from Bandai Namco Europe

Last Month’s Gamescom 2017 event in Cologne, Germany was a very newsworthy event for the upcoming collaborative title between Bandai Namco Entertainment and Arc System Works, Dragon Ball FighterZ. In addition to receiving character reveal trailers for new challengers Krillin, Piccolo, Android 16, Android 18, and the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan forms of Goku and Vegeta, we were also given a release date of February 2018 and the opening of sign-ups for the closed beta test.

Perhaps lost in all of the great news and excitement, however, was the ESL tournament at Gamescom, pitting 64 Z-Warriors against each other in a first-to-one, single-elimination bracket, in order to determine who had the highest power level currently at this early pre-release stage. Commentated by international fighting game community veterans GXC|Damascus and Ryan Hart the event provided us with over four hours of great DBFZ action — which you can now relieve, or catch for the very first time, due to a recently-uploaded live recording on the Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe YouTube channel. You can catch all the crazy anime action for yourself below:

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in February 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC, with both standard and CollectorZ editions.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s pre-order bonus costumes are on display in this latest gameplay trailer

The upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is now just 11 days away. To continue the hype train towards launch, the official Marvel vs. Capcom YouTube channel has released a new gameplay trailer showing off the previously-announced four alternate costumes for Ryu, X, Hulk, and Thor, available via pre-order. The Warrior Thor and Evil Ryu premium costumes will come with pre-orders of both the standard and deluxe editions of the game, while Command Mission X and Gladiator Hulk are exclusive to the title’s $89.99 Deluxe Edition, which also contains a steelbox case, and the 2017 Character Pass (which will add 6 new fighters along with their premium costumes to the game throughout the year, with the first two being Capcom’s Sigma and Marvel’s Black Panther).

If you want the ultimate Vs. Series experience, you can also grab the Collector’s Edition for $199.99, which includes everything found in the Deluxe Edition, as well as four statues of Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Chun-Li, and X (that can be combined together to form a diorama scene), as well as a special collector’s box and a case containing a collection of LED replicas of all 6 of the title’s titular Infinity Stones.

During the battle between Warrior Thor and Evil Ryu against Command Mission X and Gladiator Hulk in New Metro City – Crossroads, we can see Ryu’s alternate animation for his Level 3 Shin Shoryuken Hyper Combo on the Evil Ryu Costume. If the World Warrior is the only character left on your team and he’s low on health when performing the Level 3, a special animation will trigger, where he will briefly succumb to the power of the Satsui no Hado, before quickly overcoming it with the Mu no Ken and completing the attack. When used while wearing the premium costume, he will still be enveloped in the blue aura, but will maintain all of his Evil Ryu characteristics, including the Power of Nothingness mixing with the Satsui no Hado, as he is enveloped in both powers as he finishes the Hyper. You can see the full trailer below.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC on September 19th, with a Japanese release following on those same platforms on the 21st.
