Injustice 2 Mobile game now available for download on iOS and Android

While Injustice 2’s console release may still be a few days away, fans eager to ensure that every battle defines them on the go can now download the Injustice 2 mobile game for free on both iOS and Android devices via the App Store or Google Play.

Weighing in at 914 megabytes (and already updated to version 1.03) the Injustice 2 mobile game will allow you to wage super-powered wars anywhere you see fit, with 3-on-3, team-based card battles, in the vein as its predecessors Injustice: Gods Among Us, Mortal Kombat X and WWE Immortals. However, this mobile supplement is bigger and badder than ever, boasting an extremely deep revamped combat system, which incorporates greater movement into the game, with the added ability to jump and crouch under attacks, as well as new rush attacks to close the distance between you and your opponents.

This update also adds Suicide Harley Quinn, Dawn of Justice Superman, The Joker, Green Arrow, and more to the playable roster. You’ll also have access to the same extensive Gear customization as the console version, and perhaps most importantly, the mobile version will include the exact same cinematic story experience you’ll be able to see on console, with Chapter 1 available to be played through right now.

Lastly, we have our first confirmed mobile-to-console unlock, as synching up your mobile and console versions of Injustice 2 will allow you to acquire a Premiere skin for Cyborg, transforming him into the Crime Syndicate’s sentient computer virus, Grid. Don’t forget that if you pre-registered before launch, you’ll be able to exclusively receive access to Catwoman within the first week, whose passive ability is to receive greater rewards upon her completion of an Operations Mission–likely to provide you with quick access to some great loot. You can view the game’s official launch trailer, as well as a tweet from NetherRealm Studio’s Ed Boon, below!

We also caught our first look at Grid, via a loading screen during yesterday’s Injustice Watchtower live stream, uploaded by DR3 GAMING.

The console version of Injustice 2 will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this Tuesday, May 16th.

Will you be playing the mobile version of Injustice 2, and are their any mobile-exclusive characters or additional mobile unlocks you’d like to see, in addition to the Grid Premiere skin? Sound off in the comments.

Michael Martin wonders if Ed will fit into Street Fighter V Season 2’s meta on “I Got Next”

Following his official reveal yesterday, Michael Martin of Yahoo! Esports has taken it upon himself to analyze the Young Commander’s trailer, as he questions whether or not Ed will comfortably fit into the overall competitive meta of Street Fighter V’s Second Season.

After providing a brief recap of his origins, as well as some of the recent leaks surrounding him, Martin begins picking apart the trailer, praising his default outfit, though he notes he resembles one of the Dolls. Drawing comparisons to his Bison and Balrog inspirations, Martin says that his V-Reversal–Kill Step–looks similar in animation to Kolin’s, but could prove much more effective, since he goes fullscreen to more easily avoid being thrown out of it or punished afterwards. Martin mentions Ed has a cross-up attack–unlike his trainer–as well as the similarities between his V-Skill, Psycho Snatcher, and Scorpion’s Bloody Spear from the Mortal Kombat series.

In closing Martin declares that, “from a gameplay perspective, Ed might be the most unique character we’ve seen in Street Fighter V,” due to the elimination of motions from his moveset, with the exception of his Critical Art.

So initial reactions might peg this as making him easy mode for players, but I’m not so sure about that. Remember, you have to consider button presses and holding buttons while trying to play offense, defense or the neutral game. I’m incredibly happy he continues this trend of all-new unique characters. This is a pretty big departure for Street Fighter archetypes. I adore Kolin, and somehow she’s made me reassess how I see and think about the game, and I feel like I’m better for it. I just feel like Ed brings something unique to the table, and I really like that this Character Pass in Season Two is focusing on that. Ed shows me that Capcom wants to think outside the gameplay box, and I like that a lot, with these Season Two characters, and that’s what I want more than anything. These next three characters, I’m more curious about than ever, just because I want to see what unique properties they bring to Street Fighter V.

You can catch Martin’s full thoughts in the video below, and can also see VesperArcade’s Ed analysis here. Don’t forget that Ed will be playable as part of the second CFN beta test, which can be pre-downloaded on the PlayStation Store right now, so you’ll be ready when it goes live on Thursday.

Frabisaur examines a better combo mentality on Episode 8 of The Fighter’s Dojo

After looking at how to properly utilize projectiles on the last episode, Genex|Frabisaur examines another concept he feels is overlooked by players learning fighting games: the proper mentality for combos. Feeling that the beginner’s combo mentality is “only half correct,” Frabisaur looks to answer the questions of “How should I practice my combos?” and “What should the goal of my practice be?” We’ve all been there. You rush home from the store, fresh off of a brand-new fighting game purchase, pop it in, and proceed to hit up the Trial and Tutorial Modes–if available–to start learning basic combos for your character(s) of choice. Or you look them up online or in a strategy guide, before hitting the lab to meticulously grind them out, all for the sweet dose of satisfaction you get by landing them against another human opponent.

Obviously, combos are an exercise in repetition and building muscle memory. The two methods Frabisaur proposes for practicing them are either working to hit a combo a certain amount of times, and perhaps even on a certain side of the screen, or practicing a sequence until it’s impossible for you to drop it–which he recommends you aim for, particularly if you have a training partner to do it alongside.

After practicing 2-3 basic combos, Frabisaur advises you to move into “mindless mastery,” the point to where you don’t even have to think about the combo anymore once the first hit lands, as you’re landing it every time from built-up muscle memory, similar to a musician playing an instrument. Doing this will lead you into the most important part of combos: context, which he demonstrates with Nash.

Combos need to be mastered to the point that you can manipulate them at will, so that once you start your combo, you can shut off your focus on it, quickly scan the scenario, think of the context you’re in and the one you want to create on the next offensive opportunity, and then end your combo appropriately.

Don’t forget to tune into the first episode of The Fighter’s Dojo Live this Thursday, where Frabisaur will host a weekly open lobby for beginners, providing coaching and application opportunities against solid players of similar skill. Separate sessions will be held for Silver ranks and below (7:30 PM to 9:30 PM ET/4:30 PM to 6:30 PM PT), as well as Platinum to Gold (9:45 PM to 11:45 PM ET/6:45 PM to 8:45 PM PT) at http://www.twitch.tv/frabisaur. You can also follow him on Twitter for more details.

Next Injustice 2 Watchtower livestream scheduled for today, with Joker & Brainiac gameplay breakdowns

NetherRealm Studio’s Injustice 2 is only a mere week away now, and with the largest base roster in the company’s history, there’s still a few characters left to be covered on the Watchtower live stream. While Green Lantern, Green Arrow and pre-order character Darkseid were analyzed last week, today’s Watchtower will look at two of the game’s most plot-centric villains: the Collector of Worlds Brainiac, and the Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker–who was finally revealed just over a week ago.

We’ve already seen a bit of gameplay of the two, and Joker follows in his fellow veterans’ footsteps in terms of being a legacy character: operating very similarly to his previous incarnation, though with very noticeable improvements to his tools. You can see the announcement tweet below, featuring an intro between the two that sheds more light on Joker’s return. As always, the stream will kick off today, May 10th, at 3:00 PM CST (1:00 PM PDT) at http://www.twitch.tv/netherrealm. There will also be an additional stream covering the Gear System on Friday, May 12th.

Injustice 2 will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16th.

Echo Fox’s Sonic Fox shares his Injustice 2 character picks for competitive play

Echo Fox’s Dominique “Sonic Fox” McLean is a player who needs no introduction, particularly for players in the NetherRealm scene. Recently, the 4-time Evo champion for all three previous NRS titles shared his picks and insight for which characters in Injustice 2 will be the most effective in competitive play, before the title’s release next Tuesday.

Mainly focusing on the many newcomers to the cast, he notes that his Day 1 main will be Captain Cold, NRS’s first attempt at a true trap character.

It’s the first time that NRS is actually doing a trap character and setup-y character, like perfectly, and that’s my archetype I look for in fighting games. He has so much trickery and setups that he can just keep the opponent guessing over and over on their knockdown. He looks like he has a solid advancing mid, a very fast low that he can setup traps from, a D1 that looks like it’s about 7 frames. He looks like he’s all around very hard to get in on, very hard to approach, and if you’re put into the wrong situation, it might be game.

Conversely, he doesn’t think that Cheetah will be that great, as she not only has to get in as a pure rushdown character, but appears to live and die by her 50/50 mixups, that could be unsafe if the opponent guesses correctly. But he’ll reserve full judgment until he sees more of her. He also had an interesting perspective on DLC character Darkseid.

He looks top tier as I don’t know what. He has traps, 50/50s from just jumping at you, one of the best zoning games ever. A crazy Trait that allows him to combo after his grab. He looks like he might be a little too ridiculous, so that’s why I’m learning him too if he’s allowed in tournaments day 1. What’s his weakness?

Shifting to the subject of returning veterans, Fox expressed great hope in The Joker’s greatly-improved quality of life.

He’s going to take a lot of work, but he’s going to be a lot better than he was in Injustice 1. I’m really excited to try him. He looks really cool, and seems to have a lot of new trickery and setups. Hopefully they did him right this time.

You can catch the full video–where Fox also discusses Brainiac, Black Canary, Firestorm, Dr. Fate, Harley Quinn and Robin–below.

Stream.Me announces “Battle of the Gods” series for Injustice 2

Last night, following the conclusion of Season 2 of the Kombat Cup, the folks behind Stream.Me threw down the gauntlet to the successor of the series: War of the Gods for Injustice 2! Like the Cup, there will be a series of weekly online tournaments open to all legal residents of the United States and Canada, to earn points, as well as some cash prizes, to qualify for the Season Finale in September, where the top 8 players will battle for the title of War of the Gods Champion. A total prize pool of $15,000 will be on the line in the first Season, with $10,000 being paid out to the finale’s top 6 players.

As always bracket entry is completely free, and since Injustice 2 is a T-rated game, the previous age restriction for Kombat Cup has been removed–though any heroes and villains under the age of 16 will require their parent’s information before any winnings they acquire can be paid out electronically. The series will be run on PlayStation 4 due to popular demand, but Stream.Me has indicated that they will have something in the works for the Xbox One community in the future, so keep your fingers crossed.

Unlike the Kombat Cup, preliminary brackets will now be run on Saturdays, with all top 8s taking place on Tuesdays. In addition, all brackets will now be double-elimination format, a luxury previously only afforded to competitors in the Season Finale, making the competition that much more fierce. The competition begins on Saturday, May 20th, a mere four days after the game’s launch. Will you be ready in time to compete?

The event will be broadcast at https://www.stream.me/war. Sign-ups are now open at Gauntlet GG. For more information, you can follow Stream.Me on Twitter, or check out their official blog, which has provided a full schedule for the Season, which you can see below.

This is certainly great news for fans and online warriors of Injustice 2 alike, as this will not 0nly provide some great competition and potential payouts to players who may be unable to travel to offline events, but it further supplements the esports presence of the DC brawler, alongside the previously announced Gamestop Hometown Heroes tournament circuit, and the Injustice 2 Championship Series.

Injustice 2 will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16th.

Starfire, Red Hood & Sub-Zero revealed for Injustice 2’s Fighter Pack 1 DLC

After Ed Boon’s teasing this week of incoming news about Injustice 2’s DLC characters, we now know who will be the first of the 9 post-launch additions to the roster! Earlier this morning, a trailer for “Fighter Pack 1” was revealed, announcing that Tamaranean princess Starfire, reborn assassin Red Hood, and Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero will be joining the cast.

These first three characters will be available as part of the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, as well as the Ultimate Edition, which will feature 6 more additional DLC characters. Looking at Sub-Zero’s new design, it seems the leader of the Lin Kuei’s fighting style will be focused around his Kori Blades–and you can also see his signature slide.

At the end of the trailer, we can also see silhouettes of the 6 remaining characters, two of which distinctly look like Black Manta and Raiden… You can view the trailer below.

Check out today’s Watchtower stream for more information on the pre-order fighter Darkseid and Multiverse mode.

Are you excited for the eventual release of these fighters, and do you have any guesses on who these mysterious silhouettes could be? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
