SoCal Regionals is underway this weekend, and Michael Martin from Yahoo Esports is there to bring reports from the event itself. In the interim, he sat down with some of the most brilliant minds behind the scenes of our events to discuss the recent tournament happenings.

In the roundtable panel, UltraDavid, James Chen, Sajam, and Tasty Steve sat with Martin to discuss South East Asia Majors that occurred last weekend. Moving on from that, they talk about various players’ recent results, including Gamerbee, Xiaohai, Tokido, Infiltration, and Haitani, and discuss the pros and cons of each player on the road to Capcom Cup in December.

Kyohei “MarlinPie” Lehr is used to being the lone wolf American in a Guilty Gear field predominantly filled by Japanese players. His top 8 finish at Evolution 2016 has ensured his spot at Arc Revo–Arc System Works’ annual tournament final–and it will be more of the same, with two other international players in the field–a Korean and American player each.

In this interview at CEOtaku, Red Bull eSports talked with MarlinPie about his training habits, who states that he practices less and focuses on countering players more by watching videos of their play and understanding their possible setups. He further talks about his confidence after a patch that saw the nerfing of Johnny and the elimination of his unblockables. He also talks about his plans of an extended stay in Japan after Arc Revo.

If there was any character’s theme that needed a touch of class beyond what Capcom gave them, it would certainly be the heiress of the Kanzuki Zaibatsu, Karin. If you were asking for such a thing, well look no further.

xclassicalcatx just posted a collaboration of her playing the theme on viola, which is already classy enough. But, when mixed in with the smooth accompaniment of the jazz cover band The Consouls, and what you get is a track that you will want to play as you sip your tea with your pinky out. St. Louis native Leah “Gllty” Hayes has been one of the biggest travelers on the Street Fighter V circuit this year, and has certainly went all-in recently. She was seen at Japan Cup, the Topanga house, and just last weekend made her way to Singapore for Southeast Asia Majors.

Michael Martin with Yahoo! Esports sat down with the Dhalsim main to talk about her time in Japan, and what training in the country did to her game. They also talk about her win in the Southeast Asia Major Amateur Event, and her future plans with regards to travel back to Japan. They also talk about the differences between Japan and Singapore.

When the top two players on the Capcom Fighters Network–not to mention the #2 and #6 players in the Shoryuken.com rankings–square off in a grand finals, you can certainly expect fireworks. This year at South East Asia Majors in Singapore proved to be no exception, as Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi found himself matched against Evil Geniuses’ Yusuke Momochi. The two already had faced off in the Winners Final, where Tokido had already defeated him, and Tokido had something to prove with Momochi recently knocking him off the top of the Capcom Fighters Network leaderboard.

Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi took a long while to secure his second major win of the year, with four months between his win at CEO and his win last weekend at Southeast Asia Majors. But the man has been working hard at preparing himself for success.

In this interview with Michael Martin of Yahoo! Esports, Tokido talks about his new training regimen, which cuts his usual practice time by half and allows himself time to watch videos to study outside of the game. He also talks about his rivalry with Evil Geniuses’ Yusuke Momochi, who just usurped Tokido’s #1 position on Capcom Fighters Network and his tournament travel plans between now and Capcom Cup–which he is already qualified for.
