Great Big Story catches up with Street Fighter legend Tomo Ohira to talk about his departure

While there is many legends within the fighting game community, none have had the influence on the American scene like that of Tomo Ohira. The Los Angeles-based player made a name for himself as the best Street Fighter II player alive, winning tournament after tournament before eventually disappearing from the scene altogether.

His name is so iconic that people still ask where he is and if he will ever make a return to the competitive scene. In this video from Great Big Story, they chronicle some of his achievements prior to his departure, before getting word from the man himself, who says he left because the fire to compete had been exchanged with the fire to simply not lose. They also give us a glimpse into what he is doing now.

Anime-style fighting games have definitely carved a niche into the FGC, with a decent following on every title released, no matter how small. Touhou 15.5: The Antinomy of Common Flowers — a fighting game among a long line of doujin-based shooters — has been awaiting a release date for quite some time.

Today, we now have that release date set as October 15th. On top of that, we have a newly announced character joining the cast. Doremy Sweet — the ruler of the dream world — will be making her way into the game, as evidenced in the trailer below.

Poongko will compete at Canada Cup at the end of October, following his appearance at TWFighter Major

Last month, Chung-gon “Poongko” Lee stated that he was sitting out on the remainder of the Capcom Pro Tour events this season, with the possibility that he wouldn’t return next season as well. While the circumstances surrounding these tweets aren’t fully known, Poongko isn’t out of the game just yet.

Recent tweets have shown that Poongko has rescinded his departure from the circuit, shown by his presence at TWFighter Major this weekend, where he achieved 25th place. He will also compete at Canada Cup at the end of October as well. His gamble-style and mixup-heavy Kolin has been a treat to watch, and hopefully these final tournaments will give Poongko the points he needs to compete at his year’s Capcom Cup.

desk debunks his Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite combo limit theories in his latest video

In a previous Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite video from desk, he noticed that characters would flip out of a combo if hit by a light punch 20 times. It was a natural assumption, then, that an combo that repeated a move 20 times would cause a character to flip out.

That proves not to be the case, however. As tested in this video, the only move that causes this flip-out is indeed light punch, which is likely due to a preventative measure by Capcom to prevent light punch infinites. However, given the prevalence of an easy-to-execute infinite with Spider-Man, could adding this to all moves be the solution to all of the game-breaking things that could be found?

Learn how to power up like a pro with this N-Groove tutorial for Capcom vs. SNK 2

If you missed the Capcom vs. SNK 2 tutorial series last week, have no fear. Silentscope is back with the continuation of his series, and this time he is taking on one of the most-mixed bag grooves in the bunch.

N-Groove was early on thought of as top tier for its meter, and all the options that it had. However, that opinion has changed in recent years, as it is now thought to be middle tier for the same reason it was once thought top. That doesn’t mean this tier isn’t viable — as many characters can use N-Groove to augment their strengths — but it does require more work than others. Found out exactly how much work in this video.

Learn to get meaty on those hard knockdowns with Ken with these new setups for Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V is chock full of setups that are just now getting discovered, and Ken is seeing a much larger repertoire of setups coming out. While setting up meaties on hard knockdowns isn’t anything new, Ken definitely has some options that will make the meaties hard to deal with.

In this video, World Warrior shows off some of the possibilities off a crush counter sweep. These include left/right mix-ups that, when combined with the potential for throw setups, can leave your opponent guessing all day.

According to this video from Stanford Green, the next skin pack will feature Eagle, Kilgore, and Rash in golden skins. As evidenced by the video, the skin pack is not currently available in the store — but expect it to retail for the usual $4.99 when it does.

Go1 talks to Capcom Fighters about Menat and why he believes Laura does well in tournaments

CO|Go1 has done very well since his emergence into the international scene last year. Scoring an Evo 2016 and Capcom Cup 2016 top 8 appearance, he has became a fixture on the circuit, and looks poised to once again reach the big stage in California at Capcom Cup 2017.

Matt Edwards talked to Go1 at EGX and they discussed his recent switch to Menat, which Go1 cites as being due to playing similar characters in other games. Go1 also postulates that shorter sets allow for Laura players to see more wins than usual, due to the differences in playstyles between Lauras which makes them difficult to read in the short term.
