Early jumping heavy punch alters your trajectory and hurtbox in Street Fighter V, can avoid chip-death scenarios

Here’s the scenario: you have a pixel of health left, no meter to spend, and Street Fighter V‘s Akuma does his Critical Art in an attempt to kill you with chip damage. What do you do?

KaZey77‘s found a surprising and creative answer for this situation: certain characters can do an early jumping heavy punch and completely avoid the super all together. For these characters (Ken, Ed, Bison, Vega, and Nash. This also applies to Laura’s jumping heavy kick), this technique alters their jump arc and hurt-box just enough to shimmy out of the situation.

Slap away newcomer’s projectiles with Braixen’s Light Screen in Pokkén Tournament DX

The fire fox of Pokkén Tournament, Braixen, was nerfed in the transition from the Wii U to the Switch. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that the character that won Evo is unusable now, though — particularly if you’re playing a new character versus her.

In Double_FGC‘s latest video, “Super Light Screen Fighter IV – Arcade Edition”, he breaks down the strength of Braixen’s “Light Screen” counter versus the new cast. If you’re new to Pokkén, the Light Screen is one of the most powerful and unique counters in the game: it completely removes non-beam projectiles (even some counter piercing ones!), and has counter properties versus all over attacks.

If you’re close and the Light Screen counters an attack, you even get a crumple state. If all that’s not enough to impress you — it’s safe, too. In the practical sense; it is technically unsafe at -12 on block, but because of the incredible push-out it has, no retaliatory moves can actually reach her. Light Screen is a high-utility, versatile defense option that you should learn to use as a Braixen player, and be wary of as her opponent.

New Akuma Red Fireball setup guarantees Raging Demon on block in Tekken 7

In a impractical but flashy new Tekken 7 discovery by omgitsnewton, Akuma can guarantee a Raging Demon if an opponent tries to get up and block his Red Fireball.

Possibly the greatest strength to this setup is the fact that Akuma also gets big damage if the opponent remains on the ground. Instead of Fireball xx FADC xx Rage Art, he could easily do Fireball xx FADC xx d.LK, forcing the opponent to get hit by the Red Fireball. This only works if the opponent is in the face up position, but the distance this reset carries is good enough to keep in the back pocket for any Tekken shoto.

Kuma’s taunt cancel has 100% tracking, shuts down step and tech roll escapes in Tekken 7

It looks like Bryan isn’t the only character you’ll see purposefully taunting in Tekken 7. As demonstrated by J-Katz, both of Tekken’s bears have the ability to cancel their taunts extremely early in the animation, thereby gaining tracking to anything they cancel into.

This is particularly practical in the neutral game, allowing you to quickly lock out common escape options. It’s also useful in wake-up situations, allowing you to realign your 50/50 mix-ups without having to worry about which way an opponent techs.

TEKKEN TRAINING: Electric Wind God Vids – Throw Break Exercises

The Tekken Training series Electric Wind God Vids continues! Today we’re talking about how to break throws in Tekken, and exercises you can apply to improve your throw break rate.

The principle for studying these is similar to what we did with our practice for blocking slow lows. If you have a few minutes a day to perform just one of the exercises in this video, you can improve your throw break success rate exponentially over time. It just takes a little bit of practice and is a great way to warm up before playing!

Infiltration shows his training mode strategies for Street Fighter V

For many, the training mode of a fighting game is the core game. Fun is derived through the sandbox of training, allowing creative players to explore their options and invent solutions to common situations. This is certainly true for pro Street Fighter player Infiltration, as you can see in the latest Core-A Gaming video.

Infiltration’s tutorial to Training Mode is both a walk-through of Street Fighter V‘s various training features, and insight into the nuanced work a top player puts in to refining their game. If you think you have what it takes to go to the top, this is just a small example of what you’ll have to do.

CapcomFighters interviews Sean “ImStillDaDaddy” Dench about that Momochi match, his new sponsor and more

The Capcom Pro Tour continues its Street Fighter V focused interview series with British pro Sean “ImStillDaDaddy” Dench. Now sponsored by Infused, the charismatic Guile player shoots on his recent high profile match versus Momochi, his training schedule, and his hopes for balancing changes in Street Fighter V.

He also — maybe predictably — believes his recent improvement is because Europe has gotten stronger in Street Fighter V overall. “I went over to America and they play a bit different. I believe Europe has gotten a lot stronger because we’ve got a lot of players, some of the play a bit reckless. America and Japan play a bit too respectful.”
