Expand your mind with these unseeable Brainiac corner 50/50s for Injustice 2

ESL commentator and competitor Ryan “Ketchup” Neal has recently put together a tech video to show off some disgusting corner mix-ups for one of Injustice 2‘s most (appropriately) complicated characters, Brainiac.

Originally discovered by Emperor Pryce and PerfectLegend on twitter, these setups are built around a particular release timing for Brainiac’s Trait drones. Between his low-hitting down 1 and overhead divekick, both options can lead into a combo using the release of the drone. Ketchup also explains a button configuration that makes this setup much easier on a PS4 pad.

Body Count Fighting’s “The Lab” series shows competitors preparing for their BCF2 matches on July 27th

BCF2, the multi-game exhibition and title match event in Burbank, CA, is just a day away. To promote the event, Body Count Fighting is giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation their competitors are making for their battles.

Krayzie, Awesomeo, Han Rashid, and Commander Jesse each sat down with Body Count Fighting to talk about their opponents, their playstyles, and the measures they are taking to secure victory in tomorrow’s grudge matches.

Northern Arena Knockout Tournament 2017 Circuit will bring Street Fighter V to the Canadian National Exhibition

Northern Arena, the largest esports organizer in Canada, will be partnering with telecommunications company Bell Canada to run the Northern Arena Knockout Tournament 2017 Circuit at the Canadian National Exhibition.

The Canadian National Exhibition, or CNE, is the largest fair in Canada. It’s an 18-day event that has been running since 1879, and is the 5th largest fair in North America. To enter what may end up being the biggest FGC esports event in Canada yet, players must qualify in one of two ways. One is via qualification through these tournaments:

Montréal: August 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd

Those that can’t attend in person can try to qualify online through a 128-player open bracket competition, which will be held at the CNE in Toronto from August 25th to 27th. Anyone within North America can enter, not just Canada! The top 8 players from this event will qualify.

These combined 16 players will fight for a $5,000 prize pool. The top 4 players will move on to the live event at Northern Arena Knockout in September. If you wish to attend or participate, you can visit the event page here.

The Knockout Finals will take place September 15th-17th at the Bell Media Studios and offer a $30,000 prize pool. In addition to the four qualifying players, 12 international SFV pros will be entered into the bracket. Northern Arena says full event details will be announced at a later date.

Participants will need to purchase initial entry passes to CNE, with a discount on tickets being given through Northern Arena (details can be found on the event page). Northern Arena says complimentary passes will be given to players who advance to subsequent days.

TEKKEN TRAINING: Electric Wind God Vids is SRK’s video series aimed to help simplify and streamline the learning process of Tekken 7. Our introductory lesson was on the role of generic jabs in Tekken; back then, we mentioned that there were some exceptions to the generic rules for jabs when applied to three characters: Asuka, Kuma, and Jack-7. Today, we’re covering what those characters have in place of the generic jab.

Body Count Fighting releases trailer for BCF2, set to take place on July 27th

At the beginning of the month, we reported that Body Count Fighting had set this Thursday, July 27th as the date for BCF2, their California-based exhibition and title match extravaganza. Just in case you needed a reminder on who’s bragging rights are on the line, Body Count Fighting has uncorked BCF2’s trailer:

HORI reveals new wired Pokkén Tournament DX pad for Nintendo Switch

HORI has brought over the popular Pokkén Tournament pad from the Wii U to it’s latest console, the Nintendo Switch. Aside from a fresh coat of paint, little has changed for the new pad — aptly named the Pokkén Tournament DX Pro Pad.

However, the last time we reported on a HORI peripheral for a Nintendo console, it ended up leaking the existence of Pokkén Tournament DX.  It seems like history may be repeating itself: the product description of the Pokkén Tournament DX Pro Pad may be hinting at yet another future Pokkén announcement:

“Enjoy authentic arcade action at home! Designed by HORI, the same designers of the official Pokkén Tournament arcade cabinet controller, the Pokkén Tournament DX Pro Pad is a limited edition controller designed exclusively for use with Pokkén Tournament DX for the Nintendo Switch. This wired USB pad is ergonomic, comfortable, responsive and super effective for controlling your favorite Pokémon in Pokkén Tournament battles. USB wired (9.8ft) connection is tournament legal. Controller is designed for Pokkén Tournament DX for Nintendo Switch and may not function properly with other game titles. Does not include motion control, analog control, or vibration feedback.“

So, there’s a reasonable question to be asked: how do you know what’s tournament legal for a game that isn’t out yet? The official 2017 World Series, as it takes place before the Switch version’s release, is still exclusively on the Wii U.

When we discussed the leak from HORI’s arcade stick, we were left with two realistic explanations: either the retailer typed Pokkén Tournament as a compatible game by accident, or they weren’t supposed to reveal it. Similarly, either promoting this as a “tournament legal” pad is either an assumption, or a hint that Nintendo’s 2017 World Series is far from the only tournament series in the works for Pokkén Tournament.

BornFree interviews Big Bird on the difficulty of traveling internationally, Street Fighter V’s jump back OS, and more

Continuing his massive on-the-floor interview series at Evo 2017, Mark “BornFree” Sheridan sat down with NASR’s Adel “Big Bird” Anouche.

Flying all the way from Abu Dhabi, Big Bird is one of the Middle East’s strongest players. As this is his first Evo, talk naturally centered on the state of his local scene and the costs and hassles of traveling internationally. He also touched on his personal feelings on Street Fighter V, what he’d like changed (he provides a strong defense of the now-removed jump back option select), why he plays Ken, and his favorite fighting game player.

VS_Ino demonstrates the Backdash-Tech option select for Street Fighter V

3rd Strike legend VS_Ino made a great video demonstration recently on a powerful defensive tech in Street Fighter V: the Backdash-Tech option select.

The OS does exactly what it sounds like: with proper timing in meaty situations you can block, backdash, or break throws. Complete with (often times humorous) English subtitles, Ino demonstrates the power of this OS versus meaties, shimmies, and even as setups in minor frame disadvantage situations. The OS is not foolproof, of course: it still loses to meaty lows, and it’s still got all the weaknesses a backdash normally would have.

Yuu & Nobi’s KELOT CUP 3 Tekken 7 team tournament archives now available, KELOT CUP 4 date set

KELOT CUP is an annual 3v3 Tekken Tournament series hosted by Japanese players Yuu and Nobi. If you’ve ever wondered what was going on with all the frog references in Tekken 7‘s customization mode; they are a direct reference to both KELOT CUP and YAMASA AMUSEMENT FACTORY, an arcade manufacturer in Japan.

If you enjoyed this year’s KELOT CUP, then there’s good news for you: KELOT CUP 4 is scheduled to be held on October 8, 2017! In the mean time, it might be worth your time to check out Yuu & Nobi’s Twitch channel, where you can easily see more recent Tekken content from Japan’s finest!

VesperArcade breaks down Abigail’s move list in Street Fighter V

Since the recent WinnerStaysOn Abigail session hosted by Capcom UK, we’ve learned a lot more about the Final Fight Boss’ moveset. For those that want to get a quick rundown of everything we learned from the event, VesperArcade has put together a great rundown of his move-list here:

While anything is subject to change, Abigail seems surprisingly versatile right now. This high health tank is sporting long range normals, linkable target combos, a shocking amount of special cancellable pokes and fairly strong mixup tools. He also stole Deejay’s backdash from Street Fighter 4, apparently.
