Mitchel discovers ability to combo into, and out of, Pokkén Tournament’s Burst Declare

Pokkén Tournament‘s Burst Mode is designed primarily for momentum stealing; entering Burst, or “Burst Declaring,” is a safe panic button on wake-up, has an invincible 0 damage hitbox that pushes the opponent away on hit, and you get temporary access to the (mostly) safe Burst Attack each character has. Because of all the stuff it does, Nintendo went really out of their way to make sure you couldn’t just immediately combo into a Burst from an non-Burst Mode state.

But they didn’t go far enough.

As Mitchel explains, Phase shift points being reset after Burst Declare, combined with lingering hitboxes and assists means you can declare Burst, then immediately combo into Burst while the opponent is hit by some disjointed attack. How useful this will be in the long run will yet to be seen, but it seems like characters with fast Burst building should be able to make use of this well, such as Shadow Mewtwo.

BlazBlue Central Fiction and Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- are on sale on Steam until July 21st

Arc System Works had a great year at Evo 2017, thanks in combination to the pop from Jubei, BlazBlue Cross Tag, and their nail-biting grand finals. They’ve decided to ride that high to reach new players — if PC is your platform, and you’re still on the fence about ArcSys, pay attention.

BlazBlue Central Fiction, has been marked down by 20% to $31.99. Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- has been marked down by 24% to $22.79. Note that -REVELATOR- is the base game that can be upgraded to the latest version, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2; the REV 2 upgrade itself is not on sale presently.

“Behind The Scenes” trailer for Tekken 7’s Geese Howard features Harada meeting SNK Executives

The reveal of SNK’s iconic villain Geese Howard as Tekken 7‘s latest DLC character was one of the most shocking — and crowd-pleasing — announcements of Evo 2017. Perhaps it shouldn’t have been, though: Harada said he wanted South Town’s king in his game over a year ago in an interview with GameRevolution.

The latest “Behind The Scenes” trailer for Geese doesn’t add anything new for the character itself that we didn’t already see in the Evo trailer. It does, however, feature a skit with Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada meeting with SNK executives and mulling over possible character picks. The torturous part of this trailer, perhaps, is the fact because of the nature of Harada’s teasing, this could be a hint at any number of future collaborations: several SNK characters are mulled over, including Samurai Shodown’s Galford.

It could also mean nothing. After all, data mining (and meetings!) led us to believe we’d see Sol Badguy as the Tekken reveal:

Which isn’t off the table, necessarily, given Harada’s close interactions with Arc System Works lately, as well. It’s getting more and more difficult to tell, though, whether Harada is just mastering the troll art of Red Herrings, or if some of these things are actually hints/leaks at all…

Animated series “The King of Fighters: Destiny” gets new trailer, reveals Mai, Benimaru, and more

As previously reported, SNK is working on a new CG animated series called The King of Fighters: Destiny. While the previous trailer focused largely on the backstory of the Bogards, this trailer shows off some action sequences, and previously missing characters.

While there is still no date set for release, SNK promises it will air with 24 episodes. The series will be purchasable through Steam. Those that have some yen laying around (and access to the Japanese PlayStation Store) will be happy to know KOFXIV is also on sale. It’s marked down to ¥2160, or about $20 dollars USD.

Bizarre “Injustice: Gods Among Us” location test found in a Dave & Busters in Addison, IL

It would appear NetherRealm Studios (in conjunction with developer Raw Thrills) are doing a location test for a new arcade game based off of their Injustice series. Before you get too excited though, note that I said “based”– as according to early reports from arcadeheroes.com, this is far from a port of the eponymous console title.

Instead, it’s a port of their free-to-play team-based mobile game. Originally spotted at a Dave & Buster’s in Addison, IL by Twitter user jbean353535, the game has no joystick or movement options. There’s just attack (Quick Attack, Strong Attack, and Special Attack) and defense (Block).

The game may allow you to play against real human opponents, but its leveling and card system seem like poor replacements for the fighting game experience most here would want. Still, it’s nice to see NRS going back to their roots with an arcade game. Who knows where this odd little project may lead?

Evolution 2017 has come to an end. As usual, the world’s largest fighting game tournament drew a number of eyeballs to it’s main stage. Thanks to the efforts of SRKRanking and Reddit, we have a reasonably clear snapshot of how each game preformed at this year’s event on Twitch.tv.

Arika EX roundup from the floor at Evo 2017

If it wasn’t clear that Arika’s new fighter Arika EX is stirring the FGC player base from the comments here at SRK, then it was definitely made clear by the tidal wave of new footage rolling in overnight. With Arika EX confirmed to be in development for PS4 and with a beta coming later this year, it won’t be long before players are battling with old pals Garuda, Hokuto and Skullomania once again.

Red Bull eSports shares on-the-spot interviews with Evo players in new “Player Select” series

Red Bull eSports presence at Evo is shocking to no one: they do, after all, sponsor FGC titans in the form of Darryl ‘Snake Eyez’ Lewis and William “Leffen” Hjelte. Their latest video series, however, isn’t about them. It’s about the average player on the floor, their experience, and their shared excitement over Evo.

Featured above are interviews with Joe “LI Joe” Ciaramelli, Brian “Brian_F” Foster, Tempo Storm’s Alex Myers, Samantha “Persia” Hancock, Saliou “Saliou” M’Boup, Christian “TeamKhris” Bauman, and Echo Fox owner Rick Fox. They all represent different levels of play, games, expertise, different purposes for being there. Their passion for this community and genre, however, are the same.

Evo Japan titles announced, will be held in Tokyo from January 26th-28th

Those hoping to plan a trip to Evo Japan should pack their bags and clear their schedule for Jan 26th-28th, 2018! The times and titles are set:
