Punch Planet shows off first in-development footage of new character: Dog

Well, I’m ready to admit when I was wrong. When Punch Planet teased the reveal of “Dog” in one of their more recent videos, I thought for sure the first footage of the character would be at the game’s appearance at Next Level Battle Circuit. Instead, Sector-K Games has decided to go ahead and show off some Dog combos for us, right now:

While stressing that the character is still in-development, I think the company is off to a great start. I even kind of like the placeholder triple Blanka-ball super, but would understand its removal for something more elaborate down the line. If the slow visual improvements are anything like the trajectory Cid and Roy took since their initial appearance, I am sure Dog is going to end up as a worthy addition to the roster. In the meantime, we now at least have a clear picture of what the canine is about: divekicks, ambiguous which-ways, and fangs.

Alex Valle sits down with Yahoo! Esports to talk about Rashid’s rushdown and improving competitive play

Legendary Street Fighter stalwart Alex “CaliPower” Valle sat down with Yahoo! Esports’ Michael “Bizarro Mike” Martin to run some Rashid v. Kolin matches. During the Street Fighter V set, Valle gave live narration of his thought process while playing Rashid, and his overall ideas on way to improve your own personal SFV play.

It’s pretty exciting to watch someone so in control of their game-play to explain themselves in real time. There’s plenty of valuable tips in this set, ranging from corner pressure to meter management. You don’t have to be a Rashid player to learn something from this veteran’s performance. (But Rashid players should probably pay close attention, too.)

Indie fighter Punch Planet will be bringing it’s sci-fi flair to Next Level Battle Circuit this Wednesday, May 5th. This appearance continues the serious momentum building for the in-development fighter, and one has to wonder if this high-profile appearance on a major FGC stream might coincide with Sector-K Game’s recent tease of a new character.

Punch Planet is an in-development steam game by Sector-K Games, and you can find more information about the battle system and story on their official website.

Kurt Vincent’s “The Lost Arcade” pre-orders now available on iTunes, expected to release June 1st

The last time we covered Kurt Vincent’s movie The Lost Arcade around these parts, the ambitious Chinatown Fair documentary was heading towards The Metrograph theater in New York City. Now, a little shy of a year later, the Kickstarter-funded film on the famous FGC arcade will finally find its way to a mass-market release.

You can also get the soundtrack to the film, composed by Gil Talmi, here. Both the album and the pre-order for The Lost Arcade are $9.99 USD each.

Check out MarkMan’s Tekken 7 livestream today at 3:00 PM PDT, featuring new modes and gameplay

Tekken Community Adviser for Bandai Namco Mark “MarkMan” Julio will be appearing with Dalton Link and Maximilian today at 3:00 PM PDT to show off new Tekken 7 gameplay footage.

Although he already laid to rest the notion that a new character will be revealed, he does promise a demo of the new features in Tekken 7. Given Namco’s most recent Modes and Features trailer is only in Japanese, this will be the first time these modes will be demoed for English-speaking audiences!

Pokkén Tournament player and commentator H2 demonstrates Gardevoir okizeme changes in ver. 1.5

Gardevoir is shaping up to be a much stronger character in the latest arcade patch of Pokkén Tournament. In particular, her neutral has increased dramatically, thanks to knockdown buffs off of 8X and push-out buffs on the normally unsafe Psyshock.

But H2, a Gardevoir main and frequent face behind the commentator’s booth at several majors, wants you to know about how Garde’s wake up pressure works differently in 1.5.

The problem, as H2 notes, is that the buffs for Gardevoir’s neutral buffs in 1.5 actually mean they can’t be used in Future Shock oki setups anymore. To get the same reset potential and guaranteed chip damage, instead, you’ll need to use a properly-timed meaty 5Y. Ultimately this is better for Gardevoir, because it gives the advantages of both of her current okizeme options in one setup, but it’s much more difficult to time a meaty 5Y.

Combining all this with the fact 5Y is getting increased range, it sounds like a lot of Pokkén players are going to get slapped by these Gardevoir buffs.

Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 demo is available now for Playstation Plus subscribers on the Playstation Store

Chomping at the bit to try out the latest Guilty Gear Xrd? Wait no longer–assuming, of course, you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber!

PS+ members can now download the latest demo for Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 for free from the Playstation Store’s website. Currently the demo appears to be available for the US and Canada regions, but only through Sony’s website. More than likely, the demo will be made available on the PS4 console storefront later today. As Aksys mention in their previous tweet, this is exclusive to PS+ users, and getting a pre-order will not give you access to the demo, this time.

Mikado Arcade runs tournament for Data East’s weapon-based fighter “Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty”

The Data East fighter Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty (also known as Suiko Enbu in Japan and Dark Legend on the North American Sega Saturn) is a combo heavy gem romp from 1995. This weapons-based fighter has ground bounces, self-disarming weapon-throwing instant stuns, surprisingly good footsie wars, and fast paced action.

It’s really not a surprise at all that world famous Mikado Arcade would throw a tournament for it.

If the tournament itself whets your appetite, Mikado also recorded nearly an hours worth of casuals for you to enjoy, as well!

This game was re-released for the PS3 digitally, but not yet for the PS4. Hopefully, someday we’ll see a port it as well, with the extra two characters from the Sega Saturn version. And if they do release it, I hope it recieves promotional material as exceptional as this arcade flyer :

Knee hosts massive 2v2 “Tekken Stars” team tournament for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution

Jae Min Bae, known better within the FGC as “Knee”, is one of  the most celebrated and successful Tekken players of all time. Turns out, the Korean pro is also a dedicated commentator and organizer.

In conjunction with the famous Tekken hub Green Arcade, Knee hosted and commentated nearly 4 hours of an excellent Korean 2v2 team tournament, named “Tekken Stars”. If you’re looking for the very best play to take notes on before June 2nd, this is a great place to start.

TheMainManSWE will be making official Tekken 7: Fated Retribution character guides for Namco Bandai

Swedish streamer and Tekken personality TheMainManSWE will be partnering with Namco Bandai to make character guides for the entire cast of Tekken 7. The guides are set to be ready by release of the game on June 2nd.

The announcement came on TheMainManSWE’s YouTube channel. He’s made lengthy character guides in the past for Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which went into excruciatingly high-level detail on his characters. However, he has promised that his official videos, which will be made at Namco’s headquarters, will be more generalized in scope and will keep new players in mind.
