Lock down the opposition with this Blade Strangers combo guide for Liongate

We previously praised the combo flexibility of Blade Strangers with a combo video of the close range juggernaut Master T. But lest you think it’s only the dive-kickers that get to hit hard, here’s one of the games primary zoners getting in his own juggles:

Combos are organized from simple, repetition penalty loops to more advanced juggles involving EX Fireball and re-floats with jump-ins. This makes this an excellent source to start learning one of the game’s most flexible characters, and build up a working knowledge of the various juggle extension states available in the game.

The Immortal Pirate Cervantes officially joins SoulCalibur VI’s Stage of History in newest trailer

“Taste my power!”

It’s been a long journey, but the Cervantes trailer has finally landed on SoulCalibur VI’s shores.

Cervantes is a bad man in every sense of the term — he has served as the series antagonist since inception, his very form twisted and mutated by the curse that forces him to pursue Soul Edge for eternity. His life, if it’s still a life at all, is intertwined with the fate of the evil blade.

One of the more interesting surprises in the trailer is the first mid-combo Lethal Hit we’ve seen in game-play: his old B2 air throw gunshot. It could very well be clever editing, but if it isn’t, then that means either B2’s air combo has a Just-Frame input, or there could be moves whose lethal hits state is dependent on actions outside of landing the move itself — a unique idea, if so!

Soul Calibur VI launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam on October 19th, 2018.

Sas Izm shows off footsie and command grab setups for Condor in Breaker’s Revenge

When’s the last time you had Breaker’s Revenge content appear in front of your eyeballs? You can thank Sas Izm for this gift today, as he’s sent us an excellent setup/footsie guide for BR’s resident big man grappler, Condor. As demonstrated, Condor has excellent block strings that he can use to punish thoughtless buttons, then command grab once he’s earned their respect.

Developed by Visco Corp, Breaker’s Revenge is one of the most popular “obscure” fighters in the FGC, survived almost exclusively by emulation and a vocal fanbase (which you can join via Discord). And it kind of has to, as Breaker’s Revenge never made it out of the arcades. Breaker’s Revenge continues to be played regularly in tournaments, particularly in Japan arcades like Mikado.

Tekken 7 Season 2 changes roundup, including Noctis by Team Spooky, J King, Claudio changes and more!

How are you liking Season 2 of Tekken 7? (Especially now that the 2.01 patch has dropped?) Ever since the most recent season began, we’ve had a small flood of videos submitted to us of Season 2 adjustment breakdowns. Let’s organize them all in one place, shall we?

Starting us off is J King, who demos the wide array of buffs King mains will get to enjoy in Season 2. That BT Delayed hopkick juggle off King’s new Wall Bounce is sick.

Claudio players are divided over the Season 2 re-imagining of their character. ApocryphicV weighs the pros and cons of the Starburster’s new toolkit.

Speaking of conflicts, probably the most controversial set of changes belong to Gigas. Most players agree that nerfing this low-tier is a baffling decision King Jae thinks he see’s potential where others don’t.

Team Spooky covers the several quality-of-life changes Noctis received in Season 2. It’s a great time to be a prince.

Avoiding The Puddle covered Law’s numerous buffs, particularly marveling over the possible pressure DF+1 can give now that its pushback has been reduced.

And closing us out is BemaniAK‘s breakdown of Josie’s changes in Season 2 — she, like Noctis, received several quality-of-life buffs.

Thanks to everyone that submitted content to us! If you have some Tekken 7 tech you’d like to share with the world, reach out to us through our tipline.

Namco drops Tekken 7 version 2.01 on PlayStation 4 and Steam, fixes Lars Rage Drive, Eliza Super, and more

Good news and bad news, my friends. Good news is that Namco dropped the previously promised emergency patch for Tekken 7. The bad news is that, at the time of this writing, there’s no information as to what’s actually changed:

Luckily, there were clear targets for this patch: Eliza’s Super Unblockable glitch, Lars’s Rage Drive comboing from F+21, and Katarina’s absurd ff+24 jailing all immediately set Tekken Twitter ablaze when discovered. You can consider these oddities things of the past:

If there are other changes, we’ll have to wait until Namco reveals them. In the mean time, we can at least go to sleep without fear of Lars’s F+21.

Mikado Arcade shares new VOD of Fatal Fury Special tournament

If you don’t already know, world famous Mikado Arcade brings all kinds of arcade action to competitive life in Japan. They are the hub of many major events for a variety of titles — if there’s an old school fighter you want to see a tournament for, Mikado probably has one already penciled in.

One of their more regular entries is Fatal Fury Special, SNK’s classic two-lane 2D fighter. This 1993 release was just barely a year after Street Fighter II: Championship Edition, and may be the very first fighting game with stage interactions.

If you enjoyed the above event, you can see more of their wide-ranging events at thier official YouTube channel. For the night owls in the US, you can even try to catch them when they livestream.

Master T shows the power of UMA in this Blade Strangers high-damage combo video

One of the bigger selling points of Blade Strangers is its juggle combo flexibility. The only thing standing in-between you and big damage is your willingness to experiment in training mode — a fact made easy thanks to its portability on the Switch and a fact made crystal clear in the hands of the brutal close-range martial artist Master T.

Master T’s damage output and pressure are some of the best in the game, thanks to his assortment of advantageous on block EX moves, divekicks, and more. That all of these tools also double as combo filler means that he can convert off of most stray hits. As demonstrated in the video above, even if you choose to penalize yourself with a repetition or two, Master T still hits like a truck and does so with style.

AtlasOne takes on the backlash of “Icons: Combat Arena” and how games must develop their own identity

The question of “At what point does inspiration become imitation?” is one that has plagued every creative medium, for much longer than anyone reading this has been alive. All art is influenced, born of the lived experiences and interests of its creators. That isn’t an excuse to simply re-brand other people’s ideas, though — and that’s exactly the pitfall that led to the notable backlash against Icons: Combat Arena.

There is sea of indie platform fighters to swim in right now, but none of them have received the outcry that Icons did. AtlasOne‘s most recent video examines what went wrong for the developers that seemed to have everything going for them, and what lessons other platform fighters can learn from Icons going forward.

Do you agree with AtlasOne‘s take? Is Icons: Combat Arena salvageable?

Capcom Pro Tour Japan Premier tournament set for September 22nd-23rd at Tokyo Game Show

The Capcom Pro Tour Japan Premier registration has closed and the list of players attending is frightening: It’s a who’s-who of Street Fighter top players from around the world, including Evo 2017 champion Tokido and TWFighter Major 2018 champion Sako, all gearing up for the ever exciting Tokyo Game Show.

Pool play is currently scheduled for Sept. 22nd (Saturday) 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM JST, with top 8 playing out on Sept. 23rd 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM. 1st through 7th place will receive money from a nearly $100,000 USD Prize Pool — a first in TGS’s history, thanks to Japan’s new pro gamer licenses.

Also worth noting is that anyone in attendance, player or spectator, will have the chance to meet Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono. Considering TGS is typically where new character announcements have been made in the past, it would be nice to see Ono take the stage.

Make sure you check out the action at the end of this month at CapcomFighters!

STL1119 pushes Anna’s combo possibilities in Tekken 7

Despite recently putting out a explosive multi-character combo video for Tekken 7‘s Season 2, famed combo maker STL1119 somehow found the time to also release content for new DLC character Anna Williams. It has only been a few days, and the juggles on display in his latest video are already high on execution and style:

By combing instant WS+3’s, clever ring positioning, and some truly unique extensions like SS+3, STL1119‘s already set a bar for this character that will be difficult to raise.
