Terry Bogard, Sharon, Arcade Version, and more announcements for Fighting EX Layer

At the conclusion of Evo 2018‘s Fighting EX Layer tournament, ARIKA dropped a thunderous new trailer full of character reveals and future plans:

While many expected release dates for the free DLC characters Pullum and Vulcano Rosso (and, we sorta did get that: tentatively at end August/beginning of September), we ended up with so much more –SNK’s Terry Bogard and ARIKA EX characters Sharon and Area were revealed during the twitch stream. We also got a much more clear look at three new stages

On top of that, ARIKA revealed a new Taito arcade version to be released in both Japanese arcades and select US arcades. If you have a big venue near you, make sure you let them know you want them to get a FEXL machine!

And last but not least — the game itself is going on sale in celebration of Evo 2018 on the PS Store. If you haven’t had the chance to get this great game, now’s a good time!

Character packs 4-6 dropping on 8/6/18 for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, details teased for new announcement

Arc System Works is looking to co-opt the announcement hype today. At the close of Evo 2018‘s BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle tournament, they revealed that character packs 4-6 will be released in a few days on August 6th. These packs add the following characters…

 

From BlazBlue:

  • Nine
  • Izayoi
  • Mai

From Under Night In-Birth:

  • Merkava
  • Yuzuriha
  • Mika

From Persona Arena:

  • Mitsuru
  • Labrys
  • Akihiko

 

This huge surge of characters dropping on the 6th isn’t enough for Arc System Works, though: there’s an additional announcement at the closed event for Cross Counter TV’s Bar Fights tonight. While playing coy, the developer called special attention to the “colors” at the end of their slide. It could be assumed that tonight’s announcement will be the addition of a new franchise to BBCTB. Will Guilty Gear characters make their way to ArcSys’s crossover fighter, or will this be an all new property never before seen in a ArcSys fighting game?

Try out the original Guilty Gear on the Nintendo Switch at Evo 2018

If you’re at Evo 2018 and are a current (or potential future!) owner of a Nintendo Switch, then you should set a few minutes aside to check out the Arc System Works booth. There, you will find a demo of their latest port for the original Guilty Gear:

It’s unlikely you’ll miss the ArcSys booth’s massive western-themed display in the center of Evo:

The Guilty Gear port was announced back in may, and is something of a companion to the Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R port announced around the same time. Both titles, as of now, have no further information on launch date and region release — but if they are showing off a build at Evo 2018, we have to think that a release is coming soon!

There are few, if any, Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition players that ooze the charisma that RISE|Smug does. With a wild sense of humor and a finely crafted Balrog, Smug manages to always come out of a tournament as the most talked-about player, win or lose.

It doesn’t hurt any that, lately, he’s been doing an awful lot of winning: he’s currently 6th on the NA Capcom Pro Tour leaderboard, and walked away with a top 3 finish at the event today’s interview was filmed at: Defend the North 2018. World Warrior shows off okizeme setups for Ryu’s medium Shoryuken in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

I’m not sure what prompted the internet’s most prolific Ken content creator for Street Fighter V, World Warrior FGC, to look into Ryu suddenly. But judging by the lockdown potential these easy to hit-confirm combos have, it’s good that he did:

Medium DP allows you to meaty most wake-up options after a quick-rise, including 3-frame normals. It also gives good damage and sets up an easy confirm for both V-Trigger and Super — allowing Ryu to stun some characters in as few as two guesses.

Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, and BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle are free-to-play on Steam during Evo 2018 weekend

With all eyes turning towards Las Vegas for Evo 2018, fighting game companies have no better time to show off what sort of magic their games are capable of. It’s no surprise, then, that the following titles have gone free-to-play for Evo weekend:

  • Street Fighter V
  • Tekken 7
  • BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

In addition to that, Steam is running a Evo 2018 sale for the main stage titles — some of the markdowns are quite significant, such as Tekken 7‘s 60% reduced price. This sale, and the free-to-play states of the games above, lasts until the 6th.

UYU’s Kami talks about leaving Street Fighter V’s Necalli behind, playing top tier, and more with BornFree

“I’m not interested in (Cody) because I only like top tier characters. That’s why I dropped Necalli… why would I want to struggle?”

In addition to being witty and amusing, UYU|Kami’s is laser-focused on efficiency: that’s the take-away from his entertaining interview with BornFree, at least:

The origin of his focus originates from a much more serious place than his demeanor would lead you to believe, though: Street Fighter locals became a form of escape for a difficult living situation the future UYU pro was in. Humorous and inspirational, Kami’s story is a worthwhile one to listen to, both for for his thoughts on approaching the game, and for an example of giving your all, regardless of your situation.
