Learn Korean Backdash stick techniques with Cutcc’s KBD guide for Tekken 7

In Feburary 2017, I did my best to write the most thorough practice guide available for absolute beginners to learn Tekken 7‘s Korean Backdash. In hindsight, there are things certainly things I missed in regards to the way different sticks read inputs, and I recognize that some people simply learn with visual aids better than they do with a step-by-step written guide. Both of these weaknesses are corrected in cutcc‘s excellent Korean Backdash Guide below:

cutcc‘s guide also demonstrates various hand positions for both 1P and 2P side, and the strengths and weaknesses for each. If you still feel a little rusty on your KBD or just want to learn something new about how different sticks solve the ‘KBD’ problem, this is a great video to jump into.

The NEO GEO World Tour is well under way, challenging players all across the globe in SNK’s most-beloved arcade titles. The hype train will be making a stop at Mandalay Bay for Evo 2018 this weekend, with a World Tour qualifier event for The King of Fighters ’98 and a non-qualifier side tournament for The King of Fighters 2002, both run by the NGWT.

But that’s not all! There’s also going to be a The King of Fighters XIV event run by GameGoons, which also will serve as a qualifier for the NGWT. If you love your KOF, there’s no better time to show it than playing at — or tuning in to — Evo 2018!

“Just Guard” FGC monthly for Fairfax, VA starts Aug 25th, brings Tekken 7, Dragon Ball FighterZ and more to 24-hour venue “The Cave”

Fairfax, VA’s FGC has a new monthly tournament for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Tekken 7, and Dragon Ball FighterZ called Just Guard — and if you’re in the area, there’s a long list of reasons to go:

Located at The Cave Fairfax, this collaboration between professional tournament organizers DMV Collective and FGC mainstay DaPurpleSharpie features a 24-hour gaming venue, next door bar and tavern, and a nearby comic book shop. If the location doesn’t sell you, perhaps the $300 pot bonus for DBFZ, or the side tournaments for Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st], Blazblue: Central Fiction, Skullgirls: 2nd Encore, and Injustice 2 will.

Few people had as a meteoric of a rise in the FGC at such an early age as Chris “CJ Truth” Jayson did when he made top 32 at Evo 2011 in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. The protege of Jebailey came out of nowhere and took out top players with his hyper aggressive Fei Long and has have a reputation of being a fearsome opponent ever since.

Seven years later, CJ Truth still has the same boundless energy that seemed to possess him before. But while his passion for fighting games (and Fei Long) is still as palpable and entertaining as ever, he’s gained some concrete insight from his years of tournament play that balance out BornFree‘s most recent interview.

These bold words about Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition‘s Menat come from a man that’s seen some cheap characters in his time: the legend himself, Justin Wong. There are few better sources to find out about the nuanced cheap stuff around this orb-wielding character than the man himself, and that’s why he’s a guest on today’s episode of “The Lab”:

UYU|Yuyu is one of the most recognizable Ling Xiaoyu players in the world right now in Tekken 7. The demand and expectation of being a high-level player might seem like a dream on the surface, but as she reveals in her latest interview with UYU, it has its own drawbacks and difficulties.

Drawing from her experiences at Wednesday Night Fights and Combo Breaker, Yuyu explains the different energy between the large American majors and the arcade experience she grew up in.

PDP announces their own Nintendo Switch GameCube controller, has detachable C-Stick

Well, this is awkward.

Just a few days after HORI announced their own Nintendo Switch-compatible GameCube controllers, American controller manufacture PDP has come out swinging with a very similar product.

To be fair to PDP, it’s a GameCube controller. It probably should be nearly identical to another company’s take on the same design.

Whether pure coincidence or intentional saturation, PDP’s GameCube-style controller does boast at least one feature not present in HORI’s — a detachable C-Stick/Full-Stick accessory for the right thumbstick.

PDP plans to open pre-orders soon, and will ship before the holiday season starts — no surprises there, since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate drops December 7th.

Gravity Breakers’ latest build brings zero-gravity fighting to Evo 2018

Hot of the heels of the incredible announcement of collaboration with legendary composer Shinji Hosoe, developers Gremlin ENT has another, more immediately tangible announcement for the FGC:

The free-flying sci-fi fighter Gravity Breakers will be playable at Evo 2018. For those that have followed the game, this is a logical progression– as it’s development has been uniquely tied to feedback from demo play at FGC events like Wednesday Night Fights. Make sure you find your way to the Gremlin ENT booth at Mandala Bay this August 3rd-5th!
