Tekken 7 Noctis Lucis Caelum roundup: Day one combos, Roll-Dodge okizeme, and more from the Prince of Punishment

The worlds of Final Fantasy XV and Tekken 7 have collided! Now that the dust is settling from the impact, the Tekken community is left with Noctis Lucis Caleum and his weapon-slinging, teleporting moveset. The FFXV protagonist brings a wide variety of unique power to Tekken 7‘s meta — let’s take a look at what the community has put together for him thus far.

Everyone wants to get their day one combos in, so let’s get those out of the way first!

EgyptianDarknessTeam is the only group on this list to use a teleport-less jump Y mid combo.

Not only does Gatack FG have some of today’s most explosive combos, but he shows off why Noctis is the best anti-fireball character in the game.

Usman Hitman shows off some impressive run-unders and corner-wall setups.

쿨잼Coorejam found a way to push 70+ off of DF+2 without rage or walls. Impressive!

For those looking for ways to exploit Noctis’s move list, GameCaffeine’s “I hate” punishment series is here to help.

Peter Souvannarath has a few wall carry ideas for the Prince of DLC.

And closing us out today is omgitsnewton, whom shows off the suffocating okizeme game Noctis can get off of his Roll-Dodge sweep.

If you see anything worth sharing, let us know by submitting a tip for our next roundup. Thanks everyone!

It has been a little bit since we’ve checked in with Gravity Breakers, the in-development indie sci-fi fighter from Gremlin_Ent. Since we’ve last seen them, they’ve added a new alien warrior, Gerzil, and made various tweaks to the systems currently in game. You can read the full patch notes here.

This shmup/fighting game hybrid is filled with superheroes, robots, and aliens, and you can play the current build through itch.io. The developers are actively looking for feedback from the FGC to help refine their project, so if you try it out and have an opinion, be sure to reach out to them via Twitter or their Discord!

Dragon Ball FighterZ video roundup: Goku breakdown, “Team Volleyball”, and more!

Welcome West City Warriors! Despite living in a post-GO1 world, none of the Dragon Ball FighterZ content that came in recently has been Vegeta-related. If you’re a Goku main, though, there’s plenty of combos and strategies broken down in the video haul below. Let’s jump in!

Starting us off, TrulyAmiracle shows the synergy of “Team Volleyball” (Tien, Piccolo, Gotenks).

Since we last saw him, Mr. Clayton Chapman, aka FinalShowdown, has put his spin on virtually the whole cast. If you haven’t already looked at his innovative work, now’s a good time to check it out:

Famed Tekken content creators That Blasted Salami have turned their high production values to DBFZ. Understandably, they have started their analytical breakdowns with Dragon Ball’s hero, Goku.

YMB9 Sho closes us out today with a quick breakdown on how to stay safe with Frieza.

Tekken 7 version 1.1.2 now live: Update adds Noctis Lucis Caelum, Nvidia ShadowPlay compatibility for PC

Similar to the Geese release, Noctis’s compatibility patch for Tekken 7 arrived a day before his announced launch date. Since yesterday, Noctis’s release has gradually been rolled out to all platforms, and the Prince of Lucis is now ready for action.

But he doesn’t come alone, at least if you’re on the PC — the latest version 1.1.2 patch also adds Nvidia ShadowPlay compatibility. ShadowPlay highlights captures the following gameplay moments:

  • Rage Art round finishes
  • “Great” victories
  • Super Slow Motion activation
  • High damaging and high hit count combos (at least 50, 70 or 85 damage with more than 10 hits)
  • Online Matches, win or lose.
  • Online Matches with an opponent with higher than 5 win streaks
  • Ranked Match promotions

Outside of the new Warp-Strike Warrior, there’s currently no information on any gameplay changes regarding the original cast. Make sure to check your mains to see if you notice anything different!

Video artist Bitplex re-imagines Mortal Kombat II in 3D pixel-extruded models

Even though we live in a post Mortal Kombat 9 world, it’s hard not to think of Mortal Kombat 4 when you hear the phrase “3D Mortal Kombat”. It was the first game in the series to abandon its signature digitized sprites, and the jump to clunky polygonal models was a jarring experience, for many.

Of course, the ambitious jump to 3D was never going to recreate what they had accomplished in their previous games — particularly not with the technology available in 1997.

But what if the 3D pivot Mortal Kombat took still played with the original series’ sprites? That’s what Bitplex asks with their take on fan-favorite Mortal Kombat II, and the results are fantastic. Instead of forcing more realism onto the MK world, they embrace the unique quality of MK’s original sprites, while still bringing them into the 3D realm.

Rarely do big video game companies pluck an artist to work for their team just based off of fan work — but if NRS did take Bitplex‘s idea and flesh it out into a 3D-ified MKII revision, I imagine it would sell quite well.

oldKYSG pushes Paul Phoenix’s combo game to new heights in Tekken 7

Tekken 7‘s Paul Phoenix has a reputation for being a very beginner-friendly character. Everyone knows that the dreaded Death Fist and Demo Man attacks can come out at any time, at any level of play — But if those are the only things you fear from Paul, then heaven help you if you run into someone like oldKYSG.

In the video above, KYSG has put together the excellent collection of juggle filler and technical flash for “The Toughest Man in the Universe”. Your everyday Paul probably isn’t getting 70+ damage off a magic 4, and that’s just one of the first of many lifebar-smashing combos in KYSG’s portfolio.

Scallywag93 analyzes the properties and possibilities of Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis in Tekken 7

As we wait patiently for The Regalia to make its stop in Tekken 7, Scallywag 93 has put together an excellent breakdown of the currently available footage of Final Fantasy XV‘s Noctis.

The latest guest character seems, at least on the surface, to have a really fantastic set of standard Tekken tools. He has his own riffs on Nina’s UF+1, Bob’s roll mix-ups, and Paul’s Demo Man low sweep. By combining that with his own original teleport stances and long-range Warp Strike, Noctis looks poised to steal victories when he releases on March 20th.

Dragon Ball FighterZ video roundup: Hit post-super combos, Android 18 instant overheads, and more!

Welcome back, Saiyan warriors! You’ve clearly been training in Dragon Ball FighterZ, because we have another pile of tech videos piled up in the SRK inbox. Let’s take a look at what the FGC has cooked up!

Let’s start with Hit — Hit’s ability to combo after his super (thanks to proper assist calling) makes up the bulk of Y. Xiao’s latest combo video.

Kitoragi suggests you never, ever Guard-Switch against Perfect Cell.

Tbcboocock gives a quick rundown of Goku Blue’s safety during his blockstrings.

Adult Gohan doesn’t need to start with much in the way of resources to convert into a Touch-of-Death, as datHazy demonstrates.

Mynus shows off some particularly dirty instant-overhead tech with 18.

And closing us out today is Shoyoumomo, whose clashing exploration won’t teach you much about high-level play, but it will show you who the Real Deal is.

As always, if you see anything worth sharing, let us know by submitting a tip for our next roundup. Thanks everyone!

FGC Philosophy discusses how “lazy perfectionism” holds us back from improvement

“Expectations are premeditated resentments.

If your journey in fighting games has led you to the FGC, that means at some point you had enough fire within you to seek self-improvement. You know that it takes hard work and practice to get to a better “you”. And yet, oftentimes, no matter how aware a player is of what they want, many players will find reasons to not to work for it– even if they want to.

That’s the subject of The Philocypher‘s latest video: the “Lazy Perfectionist.” This is the person aware of the path they want to take, but is unable or unwilling to take it. It’s a struggle that goes beyond fighting games, and it could be holding you back from your growth as a player — and a person.

Early Blastoise gameplay for Pokkén Tournament DX shows off command grabs, stance options

We now know why the well has been dry for Blastoise info for Pokkén Tournament DX — it looks like the producers were saving his reveal for a live demo at Japan’s Spring Fist tournament this weekend.

Now that the turtle has come out of his shell, we can see that Blastoise’s move list is (at first glance) surprisingly diverse. He possess more than a few different types of projectiles from his cannons, each covering various angles in different phases. He also seems to have a “Withdraw” stance in both Duel and Field Phase. Perhaps most interesting, Mr. Cannon-Turtle has an armored, mid-range command grab. Add all this together with his healthy 660 HP lifebar, and you have a tank that’s ready for every phase of the fight.

Blastoise is scheduled for release in Pokkén Tournament DX on March 23rd.
