Tekken 7 video roundup — Marduk VTS cancel juggles, Armor King cross-up tech traps, and more!

The first week of Tekken 7‘s new DLC wrestlers — Marduk and Armor King — is coming to a close. The general consensus is that these two deal disgusting damage and break some Tekken rules in their own unique ways — just like good wrestling heels should.

Let’s see what the community has cooked today! High damage juggles for Armor King seems like a fine place to start…

It’s probably not surprising that Armor King has a cross-up move like this for tech catches. King has a similar trick with his Running Exploder, though this elbow is sadly inferior until we see a non-wall setup. Still, very cool find!

Sadly, it’s not all good news for Armor King. This particular ground throw is -27… on hit. Be careful where you place it.

As for Marduk? Well, it’s always nice when a normal combo ender can be delayed to tech catch:

If you’ve been having trouble with Marduk’s VTS combos, perhaps this tutorial can help out.

And closing out today’s list is the disgusting knowledge that Marduk can cross-under to keep wall positioning after a wall combo > ground throw setup. Gross.

BornFree interviews top BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle and BlazBlue: Central Fiction player Jona

It’s hard not to think of Jona as the US BlazBlue player to beat right now. He didn’t just win BB:CTB at SCR and CEOtaku — he also won BlazBlue Central Fiction at the same two events, beating several international players in the process.

How does he do it? It turns out, he’s a junkie for studying interactions in a wide variety of games. Check out the latest interview with BornFree to hear about Jona’s love of training mode, theory-breakdown, and more!

Free PC indie fighter “Fatal Art” announces new character Y.U.P.I.A., final build

If you’ve spent any time on the internet at all, then you’ve almost certainly seen a video with stick figures fighting each other at some point in your life. A large entity associated with this style is RockHardGladiators, an animation collective with complicated and smoothly-choreographed fight sequences. There’s a whole community that has coalesced around this animation style, and perhaps unsurprisingly, it has bled over into interesting fan projects in the form of fighting games.

One of those projects, the in-development indie fighter Fatal Art, has announced it is ending its development. The announcement comes along with the reveal of its final character, Y.U.P.I.A, and her trailer is below:

Mikado Arcade’s Street Fighter Carnival 12 continues with Fighting EX Layer, The King of Fighters ’98 tournament VODs

World-famous Mikado Arcade is back with two more tournament VODs featuring high-level Japanese play in a variety of classic arcade titles!

It might come as bit of a surprise to see indie darling Fighting EX Layer show up at this event, especially alongside a legacy game like The King of Fighters ’98. This is almost certainly a tie-in with the recent released arcade version of the game — and if it isn’t, then Mikado has an obvious out either way: they did run a Fighting Layer tournament last week, after-all.

You can follow the action of SFC12 by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. For the night owls in the US, you can even try to catch them when they livestream.

2018 Tokyo Bay Area Cup Vol. 11 VOD for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Shodown now available

As you may have noticed, we’ve made a more active attempt to cover the tournament scene of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown over in Japan. While we could continue to point out that events like the Tokyo Bay Area Cup — a 3-on-3 team tournament in Japan featuring 30 teams — validate the passion of this game, perhaps there’s no better explanation of the pull of VF than the fact that two-time Evo champion Fuudo found himself in the brackets. If a sponsored player for Street Fighter V could find the time to return to his roots, you know there’s a flame there that will never die.

As always, you can watch the highlights of this event thanks to the efforts of VirtuaFighter.com admin Mike Abdow. He also put together a full breakdown of character usage, which you can check out here.

If you like what you saw, you can watch the full VF5:FS tournament VOD, too:

BornFree interviews ChrisCCH, talks Red Bull Conquest’s format, the strength of G, and more

“When he knocks you down, he becomes a grappler. He’s a grappler without any of the drawbacks of being one…”

When you listen to him talk, it’s hard to believe ChrisCCH is 16 years old. I’m not just talking about his voice, either: the Guile/G pro not only has a nuanced understanding of his game, but the ability to give solid, clear analysis of the meta of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.

His latest interview with BornFree reveals how this shockingly well-spoken teenager not only found his way to the FGC, but rose quickly to the top of it.

Tekken 7 video roundup — Marduk wall game, Armor King cross-up re-splats, and more!

While it’s obviously still very early in their lifespan, the newly released Tekken 7 DLC characters — Marduk and Armor King — are looking stronger than perhaps any other character has looked upon immediate release. Let’s take a look at the huge damage output and gimmicks these two wrestlers are currently rockin’:

Damage is the major focus of our Marduk submissions today. Here’s some advanced infinite stage combos…

… and here’s about everything you could want to know about Marduk’s wall game, including his re-splats and a disgusting throw mixup.

Lastly, it’s important to know how to approach Marduk, as he has a fairly unique block punishment game. His While Rising options are great, but heaven forbid you ever get your hopkick blocked.

If you’re looking for a nice, long dissertation on Armor King, here’s an hour long breakdown on the character. Class starts now!

And once you have your basics down, what I really expect to see from all you AK’s out there is some cross-up re-splats.

And closing out today’s post is the casual reminder that King and Armor King share a lot of similar qualities — for example, they both murder you on Forgotten Realm.

Fight of Gods to release for Nintendo Switch on December 12th in Asian markets, English version to follow later

Soon, you can bless your Nintendo Switch with the most beautifully blasphemous fighting game in existence — according to the Malaysian government, at least — Fight of Gods.

The plucky little Unity fighter received sudden bolster in sales when they announced Jesus as a playable character last year, prompting both political backlash and enough fanatical purchases to get them where they are today — releasing their tongue-in-cheek indie project onto the Nintedo Switch worldwide.

Well… eventually it’ll be worldwide, at least — the game releases into the Asian market on Dec. 12th, but an exact release date for the U.S. is still in the works.

Fight of Gods will retail for 1,500 ¥ in Japan, or about $14 USD.

Here’s a breakdown of Feng’s important changes in Tekken 7 Season 2

Feng Wei was, and is, one of the games strongest characters in Tekken 7. Though this is true both before and after the Season 2 patch, it’s true for different reasons, and it’s important to know what Feng players will look for now when you play against them.

Feng has exchanged his absurdly powerful Kenpo Step auto-guard for better okizeme and wall options, particularly in the form of the already strong DF+22. This changes Feng’s neutral approach a bit and places larger emphasis on corner pressure — as demonstrated in the latest breakdown video from That Blasted Salami.

Guilty Gear pro Ryan Hunter talks love for Under Night In-Birth, Arc Revo Tour, and more with BornFree

“There was a time in this community where no one was playing for money. You can’t say that now.”

Many reading this have likely encountered Ryan Hunter first through OptionSelectDotCom, where he was among the first “lab monsters” to break apart the mechanics behind Street Fighter IV. Ryan has gone on to demonstrate a real prowess for fighting games far beyond any particular title, having obtained top finishes at majors for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, and most notably, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2.

In short, he’s been around. In BornFree‘s latest interview, America’s top Venom shares his views on FGC history, the push-pull between spectator and player, and why Under Night In-Birth appeals to OG fighting game players.
