Dragon Ball FighterZ roundup: Final Showdown’s combo guides, Ginyu Body Swap, Nappa breakdown, and more!

It’s here. Today is the first day of Dragon Ball FighterZ, one of the (if not the) most-anticipated fighting games of 2018. As you head into practice mode today (hopefully with all of the characters unlocked) to push your combos and setups, here’s some video references to start charging your Spirit Bomb with:

Few have pushed the combos and setups of pre-launch DBFZ the way Clayton “Final Showdown” Chapman has. If you really want to see the full extent of combo possibilities at the moment, these are a great place to start:

rooflemonger put a lot of time into Nappa during the beta, and has some information on how his toolset works; then, he demonstrates the “Kamehameha x 5” combo:

Lythero shows off big damage with his Android 16/Vegeta/Frieza team. Pretty incredible that 16 can break 5K without spending super meter!

CDV|WhiteBl4ck explores Adult Gohan’s options:

RnK Squad have pushed out an absurd amount of combo tech for a wide variety of the cast already, even including a guaranteed combo into Ginyu’s Body Swap.

Playing us out for day one, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe wants you to jam to the Main Menu music on launch day. Enjoy.

If you see anything worth sharing, let us know by submitting a tip for our next roundup. Thanks to everyone who did!

Kayane provides early footage of French tournament players trying out SoulCalibur VI at Evo Japan

A problem with virtually all of the footage of SoulCalibur VI thus far is that the players behind the controls simply weren’t legacy SoulCalibur competitors. Coverage to this point has given us early and important insight into SCVI’s world; now that we have that insight, it’s time to see the game in the hands of players looking to push its gameplay engine!

And that’s where KayaneTV comes in to save the day. She, and members of the French SoulCalibur community, are over at Evo Japan trying out the current build of SCVI. Since Kayane is a SCII Xianghua player of considerable renown, this video contains some of the best gameplay of Namco’s new sword-slinger yet. This is also some of the first footage to properly utilize the new “Soul Charge” mechanic, whose invisible-hitbox activation is functionally similar to another Namco mechanic: Pokkén Tournament‘s Synergy Burst.

Arc System Works “hears your voices” in regards to BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s DLC, promises something “very soon”

It might not always seem like it, but game companies really do monitor the consumer’s reaction to their products. Whether they ever acknowledge that reaction publicly is another story altogether, of course. But after the community fiercely split at the proposed DLC scheme of Arc System Work’s Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, ASW decided they couldn’t just continue forward without saying something:

While clearly an attempt at putting out fires (though some argue that they shouldn’t even have to do so, considering BBXTAG will launch below the average $60 price point), the lack of clarity in regards to such a hot-button issue is surprising. With Evo Japan in full swing, perhaps they are saving the mystery for an upcoming reveal.

Does this message strike you as good news? Or is the damage already done to BBXTAG’s reputation? Let us know in the comments below.

SNK releasing new — and free — Samurai Shodown V Special themes for PlayStation 4 & PS Vita

Samurai Shodown V Special was one of our favorite re-releases here at SRK in 2017. This is both because it’s a fantastic game in SNK’s retro library, and because its got surprisingly decent online play — something that usually doesn’t happen with a reissue like this. It seems like we’re not the only ones impressed by the re-release, as SNK made this announcement:

Starting today (Friday), you can get the above Samurai Shodown V Special themes for your PlayStation 4 and Vita, adorning your home screen with Yoshitora and Haohmaru. It’s timed perfectly to coincide with the SamSho side tournament at Evo Japan this weekend — and hopefully, more awareness (and events) for Samurai Shodown V will follow!

Oswald revealed as latest DLC character for The King of Fighters XIV

One of the biggest impacts The King of Fighters XI had on fans of the KOF series was the introduction of its “Hero Team”: Ash Crimson, Shen Woo, and Oswald. All three characters enjoyed considerable popularity, but where Ash and Shen Woo would find their way onto the roster of future KOF titles, Oswald quietly hung in the shadows.

Until now.

SNK has officially revealed the poker-playing hit-man as its latest DLC character. On top of that, SNK has gone out of their way to immediately reveal his movelist, as well:

At the time of this writing, no date is set for Oswald’s release, but we’ll update this as soon as that information becomes available. Considering how long fans have asked for Oswald, and with Evo Japan just around the corner, hopefully that date is revealed soon.

And Street Fighter V marches on. Now that we’re a week in, how are you liking Arcade Edition’s combos and content? A lot of characters have wildly new tools and options, and the community has been more then eager to share it with us via our tipline. Let’s jump right in!

rooflemonger‘s Chun-Li Combo Guide shows off what the Queen of Street Fighter brings to Arcade Edition.

Now take your SFVAE Chun-Li even further with this okizeme guide!

Y. Xiao looks into the new V-Trigger II shuriken combos and mix-ups for Ibuki.

Those looking to jump into the newly-released Sakura should check out alb3530‘s guide.

World Warrior FGC explores Ken’s buffed m.Tatsu.

Nemo has some disgusting anti-airs and mix-ups with Urien…

…but so does R-r-r-r-yan Hart! (Just pretend I trilled the “R.” I’m working with the medium here.)

How many j.MP’s do you want in your M. Bison combos? desk has five for ya, right here.

And closing us out is VesperArcade, who reflects on the new content and Fight Money situation for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition roundup: Urien cross-unders, Sakura meaties, and more!

Clearly Capcom-heads are loving Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. When we’ve typically done video and tech roundups in the past, there’s eventually a slow down of tech coming in by the next week of the game’s release. Not the case for SFVAE in the least! So let’s see what the community has cooked up today:

For starters, VesperArcade has released his AE Ryu combo guide.

desk‘s latest video turns to the new V-Trigger possibilities of Ken and Zangief.

Heel Mika’s Nadesiko Steel Chair V-Trigger can potentially stun in one mix-up, allowing for this brutal kill sequence.

NurseLee‘s excellent eye for set-ups is on Sakura, so if you’re enjoying Capcom’s newest S3 character, be sure to check it out.

And speaking of Sakura, AutoMattock is impressed with her HK Shunpukyaku…

Almost as much as Blockstring is with Sakura’s shimmies.

Apolo Loussalier believes that there’s still power in the “nerf” to M. Bison’s st.HK.

I don’t know how many people expected Laura to gain even more terrfying mix-ups than in S1, but, here we are. GLHFtv demonstrates the power of the buffs to V-Trigger I.

Closing us out today is a smorgasbord of Urien tech from @a_e_o_n_. Enjoy!

If you see anything worth sharing, let us know by submitting a tip for our next roundup!

BoxeR-King explains how to make informed sidestep decisions in Tekken 7

For those looking to step up their Tekken 7 game, Tekkengamer.com’s sidestep optimization list is well-known. But it’s one thing to know which side a character is more vulnerable to step to, it’s an altogether different thing to understand why they are weak to that side, and how to apply this information.

BoxeR-King‘s latest tutorial video is about exactly that topic: analyzing your opponent and making a intelligent decision based off of what your opponent is doing. Check out his guide both for the theory and for practical examples (such as stepping after the very-common Dragunov While Running 2).

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition roundup — Ryu breakdown, Nash V-Trigger II, Akuma meaties and more

So you’ve had the weekend to grind out in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. While the early days were dominated by combo videos and content breakdowns (of course!), we are now starting to see more meaties and pressure guides trickle in. Let’s see what direction SFV:AE content is heading with today’s video roundup!

There’s something of a meme going around about the perceived strength of Abigail’s new VT2. If you are one of those players ready to pick up the giant Canadian for gimmick power alone, then rooflemonger‘s series of Abigail tutorials for AE should help you!

True to the character’s design, Y. Xiao shows off the high damage versatility of Menat’s new V-Trigger.

He’s also submitted some combos and setups for Urien’s new V-Trigger.

You may remember JusticeSoulTuna‘s Juri breakdown from an earlier roundup. Here he explores more thoroughly the best ways to squeeze damage out of VT-1.

World Warrior FGC shows off new damage opportunties and meaty setups for Akuma’s new cancel-heavy V-Trigger 2.

AutoMattock is absolutely floored by the new set-play possibilities of season 3 Kolin.

desk tackled Nash for purely flashy-combo-video related reasons, and who can blame him?

And last but not least, VesperArcade goes over the much-anticipated Ryu changes in S3, and shows off some starter combos for Sakura.

If you see anything worth sharing, let us know by submitting a tip for our next roundup!
