TEKKEN TRAINING: Electric Wind God Vids — Beating Eddy’s Handstand

Electric Wind God Vids is back and we’re picking up where we left off: picking apart Eddy’s stances. Last week we gave an overview of the very annoying Relax stance. Today, we’re covering his Handstand stance: a larger stance that serves as a more transitional state then an all-out mix-up stance.

Despite the lack of a un-seeable power low, though, Handstand can murder you with crushing mids and fast power crushes if you aren’t careful. Learn when the gaps appears off his transitions and Handstand becomes more liability than leverage for Eddy’s mix-up game.

Bleed your opponents dry with UFOrange’s high-damage Eliza combos for Tekken 7

Want to play a meter-using character in the Tekken 7 but not sure if Akuma’s stubby limbs will work for you? Worried about how new Geese will be, and just want to jump in to a character that’s already understood? Maybe Tekken’s Mistress of the Dark, Eliza, will compliment you.

Tekken player UFOrange has put together a great Eliza combo showcase to show off what the immortal seductress is capable of. This dive-kicking, fireball-chucking monster has no lack of versatility or punishment options, and can dump her meter into many situations for big damage.

FrameWhisperer breaks down everything to know about the Bears of Tekken 7

Do you want to play as a Bear in Tekken 7? Are you on a losing streak because you have no idea what Kuma does? If you fall into either one of these camps, FrameWhisperer Tekken‘s comprehensive Kuma & Panda guide is worth your time.

In the past, Kuma has been a low tier, gimmicky character with an inordinate amount of range and knowledge checks. This, combined with an odd hurtbox that can change juggle options for his opponents, can give new players trouble the first time they encounter him in the wild. But in Tekken 7, the Bears now also have decent block punishment options and combo damage, making them an even bigger threat then they ever were before.

PlayStation Blog mentions Nov. 30th release date for Tekken 7’s Geese Howard, Microsoft adjusts release time

The mystery of Geese Howard’s Tekken 7 arrival date deepens today, as the official PlayStation Blog has just casually dropped a November 30th release date for DLC Pack 2. While this contradicts the original surprise leak on Microsoft’s site, it is worth noting that Microsoft’s site has moved the release date for Geese 12 hours forward from 11:00 AM CST to 11:00 PM CST on the 29th. It’s also worth noting that the Steam Store still makes no mention of Geese. Looks like we were right when we suggested that someone jumped the gun.

As of this writing, there is still no official clarification from Namco on their social media or official sites. With so little time left in the month, though, it seems like SNK’s boss will arrive on his own terms, with or without an official statement.

Pokkén Tournament DX wall combo re-stand glitch manipulates scaling for big combo damage

There’s no question that wall combos in Pokkén Tournament DX hurt. Many characters are capable of pumping out almost 40% or more damage optimally, without spending any other resources.

But just in case that’s not enough for you, there is a glitch with wall combos in Pokkén that let’s you completely bypass the damage scaling your combo should be taking. As demonstrated by 21 Hits, combining this glitch with resets can lead to round-winning situations off of a single scramble — what can you come up with for your character?

CrossUPDP shares max damage combos for Street Fighter V’s Ryu

CrossUPDP is back with more of his “MAX DAMAGE” combo tutorial series, and today he’s tackling the much-maligned season 2.5 Ryu.

While Ryu may have gotten his Dragon Punch back thanks to the mid-season balance patch, many still regard the original World Warrior as relatively weak in SFV. We can see here, however, that has less to do with damage output and more to do with the situational, counter-punching nature of his toolset. Ryu’s damage output still hurts when he scores his hits, sometimes even out-damaging and out-stunning the glorious Lord Bison for the same resources. Which just goes to show: damage is a good thing, but it’s not everything when it comes to the overall strength of a character.

VODs of Mikado Arcade’s 7th Marvel Super Heroes tournament are now available

Mikado Arcade in Japan is known as a consistent competitive hot-spot for a wide variety of old school arcade fighters. While we’ve been covering their current multi-game tournament series Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017, there’s also consistent tournaments for individual games: in this case, Mikado’s 7th high-level Marvel Super Heroes tournament.

MSH was Capcom’s second foray into Marvel fighting games, and is the direct predecessor of X-Men vs. Street Fighter. A large part of the mental game (and mechanics) are built around its Infinity Gem system. This system allows players to enjoy new mechanics and buffs, which you can read further about at the SRK Wiki.

If you want to know more about the history of this MSH tournament, be sure to read our on-site reporting from previous Mikado Arcade’s previous Marvel tournaments!

Behold the excellence of Lee Chaolan’s counter-hit Magic 4 in Tekken 7

No one has ever accused Tekken 7‘s Lee of being an easy or straight forward character. You rarely see the character in tournament play due to the complex nature of his combos and overall game-plan, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an incredible reward for your excellent effort.

This is exemplified in his Magic 4, a counter-hit fishing 11-frame high that can lead to upwards of 44% damage without rage. Lee player TZMurakumo shows off this tool in his latest combo video, with a series of progressively more impractical and powerful combos for the adopted Mishima.

BoxeR-King breaks down Tekken 7’s notorious King vs. Xiaoyu matchup

If you ever ask a King player what their worst character match-up is in Tekken 7, more often then not they’ll tell you it’s Ling Xiaoyu. Broadly speaking, the slippery nature of Xiaoyu’s “Art of Phoenix” stance combined with her high damage and safety makes it incredibly difficult for King to ever get his offense started.

But King pro BoxeR-King doesn’t want you to think it’s a lost cause. In this over 15 minute dissertation on the matchup, he lays down various King anti-AOP strategies for you to employ, as well as some clever block punishments you can use.
