FightersLegend’s Tekken 7 combo exhibition maps out potential juggles and utility for every character’s Rage Drive

While Rage Arts may have been the cinematic gimmick that pulled a new generation of players into the Tekken universe, Tekken 7‘s Rage Drive is generally the safer and more practical use of your Rage meter.

Depending upon the character you can get comparable — if not outright better — damage in your juggles with proper Rage Drive use, and they almost always either provide frame advantage or some other form of useful utility. FightersLegend‘s latest combo compilation shows off both for the entire currently released cast, giving you a frame of reference if there’s a new character you’re interested in picking up.

TEKKEN TRAINING: Electric Wind God Vids — Dealing with Eddy’s Relax stance

Electric Wind God Vids is back with some more character counter-strategies: today we’re tackling Eddy’s “Relax” stance. Its name is good advice for those that may be struggling against it — it’s not as scary as it initially appears!

With its small hurtbox and powerful mix-up options, Eddy’s “Relax” stance is, at first, frustrating and powerful. However, many of the transitions into Relax are very unsafe, and if you know your options, you can shut it down.

SNK’s latest financial report shows huge profits, 33% increase in sales from previous fiscal year

When SNK was acquired by Chinese mobile gaming company 37games, the acquisition itself was not as big of a bombshell as the future 37games envisioned for them. CEO Zheng Jianhui announced strategies to pull out of the pachislot business and focus solely on SNK’s rich IP library, likening SNK’s path to that of Marvel’s: they wanted to license their history and characters in as many mediums as possible. (In hindsight, perhaps this should have been the first clue to Geese Howard appearing in Tekken 7.)

Well, almost two years into that commitment, SNK is seeing the reward. As originally reported by gamebiz.jp, Net sales up 33.7% year over over, operating income is up 27.3%, and the final profit is 3.105 billion yen. Considering the previous year’s 558 million yen deficit, this is a remarkable turnaround for a company many may have thought was down-and-out.

Combined with the expansion of SNK’s Esports division and reports of new fighting games already in the works, SNK’s new path seems to be the right one.

Tekken 7’s Geese Howard pre-release roundup: movelist, combos, and early impressions

The long journey to the Tekken World Tour Finals has ended, and what an event it was. Between Qudans’ legendary finals run, the announcement of soon-reduced PS4 lag, and Namco’s surprise Noctis reveal, there’s renewed clamor for the biggest 3D fighter in the world: Tekken 7. Off-stage, players were lining up to try their hand with the next DLC character Geese Howard, and in the process they’ve gathered a lot of data on how SNK’s favorite boss might shape up in the final version.

The one and only CEOJebailey captured footage of his move list…

Tyler B got to play a lot of Geese, and sees pros and cons with this current build…

UK Tekken Pro King Jae shared a long set of Geese practice, and you can really see both players start to get comfortable with him as time progresses…

…and the same can be said for the matches from EvilBowlOfCereal, who also provides some valuable commentary while playing.

What do you think about what you’ve seen thus far? Do you think Geese is the character for you?

Mikado Arcade’s Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017 continues with ARIKA’s Fighting Layer

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” marches on! SSFC2017 is the currently ongoing Japanese tournament series at Mikado Arcade for a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. If you missed the first few tournaments from SSFC2017, there’s a lot to catch up on!

Mikado has decided to follow one ARIKA game with another: last week we had Street Fighter EX 2+, this week we have the Namco published Fighting Layer. While Fighting Layer regrettably never made it outside of arcades, it’s still home to some fantastic ARIKA character designs and ideas. I wonder if we’ll ever see Capriccio in ARIKA’s latest unnamed project?

Are you enjoying SSFC2017? You can follow the action by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. You can even try to catch them when they livestream!

cutcc’s “QuickNotes” series breaks down the basics of Tekken 7’s Akuma

cutcc is back with more of his “QuickNotes” series for Tekken 7! Today he’s tackling Capcom’s favorite demon, Akuma. And if you intend to master the Satsui no Hadou in 3D, you will need intense training and study time.

Akuma is a fundamentally different character from anyone else in Tekken, having abnormally weak mids and stubby limbs compared to the rest of the cast. Combining that with his lackluster lateral movement, and you’ll discover it takes a real understanding of the Tekken system to make this demon work in 3D. With effort, though, his strengths shine through- high damage output, great lows, and some of the best punishment options in the game.

Rule all of Punch Planet’s inhabitants with these Tyara combos and resets

One of the biggest pops Sector-K’s Punch Planet got during its pre-release tour of FGC tournaments was the reveal of Tyara at Evo 2017 — for obvious aesthetic reasons. Character design aside, now that the game has entered early access, we get to see and experience the full range of Tyara’s options (as they exist in the current build of 0.1.8.10).

One thing that may not have been as neatly understood about this SPD-user is the ability to freely combo off of her command grab, and the multiple ways she’s able to manipulate the Time-Canceling system. Combining her longer combos and her ability to cross-up downed opponents allows the Amazonian alien to vortex foes with ease, making her the perfect fit for set play-loving players.

AutoMattock shows off corner throw loops with Street Fighter V’s Old Zeku

Street Fighter scientist AutoMattock has been studying the ways of Bushinryu, and has put together a solid corner vortex for the latest Season 2 DLC character Zeku (specifically, from “Old” Zeku form).

After Old Zeku forces a block in the corner with EX Koku, he’s in range for a grab attempt with +1 frame advantage. Versus any characters without a 3 frame normal, he’s also able to frame trap with his cr.LP. Once you land the throw? St.HP with counter-hit quick rise buttons. If they get up and block, they are right back in the same situation, since you can special cancel into EX Koku. Neat!

Pokkén Tournament DX pro Ouroboro shares simple and powerful oki setups for Gardevoir

Are you having trouble keeping your opponent from pressing buttons on wakeup as Pokkén Tournament DX‘s Gardevoir? You likely aren’t using Future Sight and 8X, then!

Thanks to the new knockdown buff with 8X, nearly every knockdown situation should be an opportunity for Future Sight pressure into 8X/Throw mixups. Heaven forbid your opponent try to counter attack during these meaties either — the extended freeze on counter attack frames make it very easy for Gardevoir to throw laggy counterattacks on reaction, if not just outright beat them with 8X timings.

BoxeR-King shows off the holy grail of King juggle techniques: The 1,2 FF+1 tailspin

It was around a year ago that BoxeR-King showed off  1,2,FF+1 in a combo video for his namesake, King. This combo has since become the gold standard for high level King mains — it’s high execution, high damaging, and carries further then nearly anything else currently known. It’s the “high execution” part of that equation that has frustrated many would-be Kings, though.

Boxer’s latest video goes through the applications, timing, and methods of execution. It takes a lot of work to be King of the ring, and with this combo you’ll always be a threat to get to the wall and deal tons of damage.
