Indie developed fighter “Gravity Breakers” reveals “Pay-What-You-Want” prototype on itch.io

If you were watching Wednesday Night Fights a few weeks ago and saw a Psychic Force 2012-esque sci-fighter on stream, you were watching a early prototype of the in-development indie fighter Gravity Breakers.

Gravity Breakers is a shmup/fighting game hybrid filled with superheroes, robots, and aliens, and as of today you can play the prototype through itch.io with its new “Pay What You Want” model. Developers Gremlin_Ent is actively looking for feedback from the FGC to help refine the project, so if you try it out and have an opinion, be sure to reach out to them via Twitter or their Discord!

That Blasted Salami covers the essentials of Tekken 7’s Kazumi Mishima

That Blasted Salami is back with another character study, this time breaking down the tiger-chucking Kazumi.

I always recommend new 3D fighting game players to pick straight forward, poke heavy characters when they first start playing. These types of characters have an obvious, simple game-plan that really force you to learn how the game’s rules operate, and you can easily pivot away from that character into someone more “complex” if you want to later. For this reason alone, I can’t recommend Kazumi enough to those just starting out in Tekken 7.

You can learn the Matriarch Mishima’s move-list quickly and easily with That Blasted Salami‘s latest tutorial video, which thoroughly breaks down her play-style, top moves, combos, and punishment options.

Check out UltraDavid’s dash-block option select for safely approaching Firestorm’s Molten Trap in Injustice 2

Several months back, Injustice 2 player Raptor discovered an option select with Firestorm that allows The Nuclear Man to meter burn his Molten Trap special only on hit. Knowing whether or not your opponent knows how to preform this in and of itself is a frustrating mix-up, and makes it difficult to approach from full screen without taking big commitments.

That’s where UltraDavid comes in. It’s only fitting to fight an OS with an OS — and that’s exactly what he’s created here with the above outlined dash-block technique. Once you block the first hit of Molten Trap you can safely dash forward (UltraDavid is using Swamp Thing’s dash as an example, which should put into perspective how universal it is), and block most (not all) of Firestorm’s potential zoning tools. It takes an esoteric read (and meter) for Firestorm to punish your dash, which ultimately means you can control the situation if you can react and properly execute this OS.

Mikado Arcade’s Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017 continues with Project Justice: Rival Schools 2

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” marches on! SSFC2017 is the currently ongoing Japanese tournament series at Mikado Arcade for a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. If you missed the first few tournaments from SSFC2017, there’s a lot to catch up on!

Of all the times we’ve signal boosted Mikado’s excellent tournaments, Project Justice: Rival Schools 2 is consistently the most shared and favorably received games on our site. It’s the right combination of simplicity and nostalgia to really resonates within the FGC. There’s also a certain thrill of watching players battle with, and against, some of the hysterically strong stuff that’s developed over the years in this game’s meta — if you’ve complained about jabs in other games, oh man.

Perhaps most importantly, it’s been a very long time since Capcom took a crack at the 3D fighter genre, and it’s hard to ignore the clamoring for a new title in the series. Until that announcement day comes, though, we’ll have to wait patiently and just enjoy some high level tournament play from one of Japan’s finest arcades.

Are you enjoying SSFC2017? You can follow the action by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. You can also try to catch them when they livestream!

Geese Howard has suddenly appeared on the Microsoft Store for Tekken 7, release date listed as Nov. 29th

Did someone at Microsoft press “publish” too early? It would appear so: Geese Howard has suddenly appeared on Microsoft.com’s website, and has a release date of listed as November 29th, 11:00 AM CT. At the time of this writing, SNK’s South Town Boss has yet to show up on Steam or the PSN store, and no official announcement has been made on any of Tekken’s official sites or social media.

There is a good chance that this date will be made official across all platforms very shortly, or Microsoft will have to make a swift retraction. Given we are over half-way through the month (and given that twitter user xray2k1 was able to download the update, although not play it, as seen above), I am anticipating the former.

ApocryphicV’s latest Tekken 7 guide teaches you how to setup Claudio’s Starburst

It has been about six months since Tekken 7 released for consoles, and I think that might be enough time for Claudio players to get hop-kicks out of their system. Maybe. Maybe not.

Jokes aside, the real meat behind the exorcist’s movelist is his unique Starbust mechanic, a self-buff that grants Claudio access to all of his best (non-hopkick) moves. The new moves granted to Claudio have a wide range of powerful properties including mid/low mix-ups, positive frames, combo starters and more. But he can only get this self-buff by hitting certain moves, and ApocryphicV‘s guide walks you through the various ways you can set this up.

Win swiftly and stylishly with AutoMattock’s setplay strategies for Old Zeku in Street Fighter V

Street Fighter scientist AutoMattock recently shared a reasonably strong throw loop with ex-Bushinryu master Old Zeku. The throw loop did have a particular weakness though: 3 frame jabs spoiled the potential of it’s +1 frame advantage. If you were hoping for a slightly meatier wake-up option, then you’ll want to see his latest setplay ideas below!

Using crouching HP in these outlined combos allows you to cover all of opponent’s tech options, and if you score a crush combo, you get an excellent cross-up opportunity with Bushin Flip. If the opponent does not recover at all, dashing up twice after whiffing the crouching HP leaves you at frame advantage as they stand up.

Here are 10 annoying strings you need to low parry in Tekken 7, courtesy of Scallywag93

One of the easiest ways to exploit low-level Tekken players is to simply use strings that have lows in them. Law’s Junkyard, Kazuya’s jab low, and more are all examples of common strings that seem powerful at first, but evaporate into a mist of uselessness once you discover how to low parry on reaction.

Scallywag 93‘s latest video organizes some of the most common of these “fake” strings for you, the new Tekken player, to reference and practice against. With time, patience, and a down-forward tap on your arcade stick, you can turn these seemingly annoying strings into a liability.

Henry “Golden” Cen starts new YouTube series “Adaptation”: Discusses the psychology of movement

Owner of NYC’s Next Level Arcade and old-school fighting game aficionado Henry “Golden” Cen has started a great new YouTube series called “Adaptation.” By its name you can tell it’ll focus on one of the slipperiest topics in fighting games: how to change the way you play to counter your opponent’s style.

Without pressing any buttons or saying anything to him, Henry can look at just the way you move around in game and know your skill level. This is the subject of his debut episode: using the smallest amount of information to construct a larger picture about what your opponent does and doesn’t know. While he’s using Street Fighter V as his canvas, the insight here transcends title.
