The King of Fighters ’97 is the latest retro SNK fighter to be ported to the Nintendo Switch. This particular iteration of the classic fighter takes place during the height of the Orochi saga, which deals with the ancient magic that is the source of Kyo Kusanagi and Iori’s flame-wielding abilities. This game served as the debut for KOF fan-favorite Chris, who was a member of the Orochi Team alongside Yashiro and Shermie, and also introduced the bloodthirsty Orochi versions of Iori and Leona.
Though this title was short-lived, it holds a unique place in The King of Fighters‘ storyline as well as in the heart of the series’ fans. Interested Switch owners can download The King of Fighters ’97 now for just $8.00 USD.

The cosmic deity Rosalina is quite a powerful character in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, so it’s no surprise that she is a top pick among competitive players. With the trusty Luma at her side, it often seems like you are playing as — or fighting against — two separate characters, and the Beefy Smash Doods are here to show us that this sensation is no mistake, nor has it been fully explored.
Giving props to Rosalina main Falln for many of the discoveries, the Doods expand on the many specific instances in which one can “desync” Luma from Rosalina in a video entitled How To Control ONLY Luma. The tutorial begins with a few techniques that would not (or should not) be unfamiliar to avid Smashers, but branches off into some more advanced techniques that really allow Luma to shine on her own.
You can check out that video below, and click here for more Smash 4 tech from the Beefy Smash Doods.

On July 1st, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to download a copy of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown as part of Xbox’s monthly Games With Gold subscriber incentive. The download will, of course, be the Xbox 360 version of the game — but since it is one of the older titles that has been greenlit for backwards compatibility, the game should install and run on the Xbox One just like any other.
Virtua Fighter is praised by many members of the fighting game community for its highly-technical gameplay, and it is a franchise that has aged very well for that reason. For a brief explanation of how the download of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown works, a video containing a full description of the Xbox Games With Gold July update can be seen below.
In their latest tutorial video, the Beefy Smash Doods discuss what is perhaps the most interesting tech found in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: an ability possessed solely by Wii Fit Trainer that has been named Sashimi Wiggling. This technique exploits Wii Fit Trainer’s unique crawl mechanic by combining it with the momentum gained during a turnaround following a run. By going into a crawlimmediately after a turnaround, Trainer is able to execute dashes of great proportions and great speeds that are impossible to achieve by any other means.
Using the Sashimi Wiggle, these dashes can also be canceled at certain lengths and attacks can even be executed mid-dash, but as C5 of Beefy Smash Doods explains, this technique requires very meticulous timing and can only be executed consistently when dashing right and turning left.
If this explanation just makes the Sashimi Wiggle seem more confusing, check out the Beefy Smash Doods’ video on it below. Whether you are able to comprehend how it’s done or not, to see a character do such an incredible dash in an Super Smash Bros. game is quite baffling. Who knows if this tech will carry over into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but if it does, Wii Fit Trainer players can use this tutorial to slide right by the competition.
Ties, T-posing and taunting abound in this highlight footage of the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournaments from the recently-passed 2GG Hyrule Saga. Set in Long Beach, California, The Legend of Zelda-themed major saw Smash 4 heavyweights such as MKLeo, Elegant, Ally, and Mr. R match blades to determine who was the most fearsome warrior in the kingdom of the Triforce.
Though many shenanigans did transpire, all players appeared to have brought their A-game, which is to be expected of an event hosted by 2GG. Check out the insane 18-minute highlight reel from the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U singles and doubles matches below, and click here to see the Hyrule Saga tournament results.
A recent entry to the European Playstation Blog announces that Absolver will be one of the free games available to Playstation Plus users during the month of July. Whether you are a traditional fighting game player looking for something unique — or are just new hearing about Absolver for the first time — PS4 owners with a current Playstation Plus subscription can embark down the path of absolution free of charge. If you are skeptical of whether even a free copy of this ambitious indie fighter is worth your time, check out Interrobang!?’s review.
