Captain Falcon Sets His Opponents’ Dreams Ablaze in This Super Smash Bros. Falcon Punch Compilation

In the world of Super Smash Bros., nothing is more satisfying than ending a match with a meticulously-timed Falcon Punch. Whether you are a competitive or casual player, all can agree that being on the receiving end of one of Smash’s most iconic moves is never where you want to be, especially if your damage percentage is high and you’re down to your last stock.

In his third compilation of this nature, GRsmash compiles 20 fatal Falcon Punches from Project M, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Smash 64 matches captured on various streams. Though not all 20 claimed stocks or ended matches, each one is pretty mind-boggling in its own respect.

Hungrybox Pulls of 30 Critical Offstage Rests in This Super Smash Bros. Melee Compilation

Super Smash Bros. Melee star Liquid|Hungrybox isn’t known for having a flashy playstyle, but every now and then we see some showy plays from the world-renowned Orlando native that makes us question how humble he truly is. In this compilation from GRSmash, we see the Evo Champion pull off 30 very risky and very impressive Rests, a high risk, high reward attack for Jigglypuff players.

Similar to Captain Falcon’s Falcon Punch, Rest is a move that–as a pro–does a massive amount of raw damage if it hits and–as a con–leaves Jigglypuff wide open for attacks if it misses. Knowing how and when to use Rest isn’t necessarily essential to being a good Jigglypuff player, but having the ability to incorporate Rest into an in-game strategy can give a ‘Puff main a crucial advantage.

It’s no surprise that Hungrybox, considered by many to be the best Jigglypuff player in the world, would display such such mastery of a high-level technique, but the fact that these 30 match-ending Rests were executed while floating off stage makes them that much more awe-inspiring.

You can learn more about Rests here, and view more from GRSmash here.

Yasayuki Oda Has a Christmas Surprise Planned for The King of Fighters XIV

FloKO interviewed The King of Fighters XIV director Yasuyuki Oda about the upcoming Version 1.10 patch for his game; in addition to discussing the inspiration behind the graphical changes and SNK’s decision to increase support for the esports scene, Oda says that he has a “small present” planned for the Christmas season. Since the 1.10 patch won’t be officially implemented until January, we can assume that whatever the surprise is will be something unrelated to the graphic and balance updates. Christmas season is practically here, so it’s likely we’ll find out what it is soon.

You can watch FloKO’s full interview with Yasuyuki Oda here.

[Editor’s note: there’s a possibility the “present” refers to the yet-unreleased classic Athena costume, which is apparently going to be a free download temporarily. Or, maybe not! We’ll see.]

Smash Central Makes the Case for Why Super Smash Bros. is a “Real” Fighting Game

Despite the Super Smash Bros. series being featured in tournaments alongside traditional fighting game franchises like Street Fighter and Tekken, there are still people in the fighting game community that believe Smash is not a “real” fighting game. Though there are obvious ways in which Super Smash Bros. does not fit the mold of a “traditional” fighting game, it is not uncommon to hear Smash players argue that getting good at Smash requires the same amount of dedication and mental dexterity as it does to heighten your skill level in any other fighter–if not more so!

Smash Central has released a video in support of the aforementioned argument to YouTube, entitled “Is Smash Bros. a REAL Fighting Game?” In the video, they admit that there are many aspects of Super Smash Bros. that are definitely  nontraditional, but that doesn’t make it any less of a fighting game. He argues that every fighting game has its own unique attributes, and there are more similarities between Super Smash Bros. titles and other fighting games than there are differences.

You may not agree with everything Smash Central says, but they make some pretty sound points. You can watch the video below to hear the full stance.

Become the Ghost of Sparta with This Kratos PC Mod for Dead or Alive 5 Last Round

This PC mod places God of War’s Kratos in the world of Dead or Alive 5 Last Round; sambo masters Leon and Bayman are used as the base avatars for the mod, and their stance, mannerisms and fighting style fit the Ghost of Sparta very well.

The details of Kratos’ character design–such as his tattoos, clothes, armor, and of course his signature Blades of Chaos, mounted on his back–makes his unofficial Dead or Alive appearance very convincing, and the Desert Wasteland makes for an appropriate place for the Kratos clones to brawl.

Lacid’s Meitenkun is Not to Be Slept On in The King of Fighters XIV

You may not think that a character that carries around a pillow could be a serious threat in a fighting game, but this compilation video of Korean player Lacid playing Meitinkun in The King of Fighters XIV would definitely make you think again. Lacid takes the wielder of the Sleepy Fist out for a few online matches, and the results are very impressive.

While some of the bigger combos he pulls off are eyebrow-raising, there is much to take away from the way Lacid plays Meitenkun. The way he uses HP Makura Nage (The upward pillow throw), for instance, keeps a good amount of pressure going; most of the opponents he faces in these matches spend most of the rounds in the corner.

For those interested, Lacid has hours of stream footage uploaded to his YouTube channel.
