theScore Esports takes a look at Evo Moment #37 as one of the most iconic moments in competitive gaming

Evo Moment #37 is one of the most iconic moments not just in competitive fighting games, but in all of sports. Daigo Umehara’s epic full parry comeback against Justin Wong in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike at Evo 2004 has likely been seen by more viewers–and inspired more players–than any other moment in the history of competitive video gaming.

In a new installment of their series on iconic esports moments, theScore Esports takes a closer look at Evo Moment #37. Here, they look at the background of the moment building up to the actual match. With insights from the UltraChen duo of David “UltraDavid” Graham and James “jchensor” Chen, they look at how important the moment may have been for the fighting game community, including how the moment captures the community’s spirit in pixel form.

This new TAC infinite in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for Morrigan includes a Hyper Combo

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s TAC infinite’s continue to be the gifts that keep on giving. This new TAC infinite for Morrigan, however, is a bit unique for one reason: it involves a Hyper Combo.

Michael “Chamakito” Benitez has discovered that Morrigan can perform a Team Aerial Combo infinite in the corner that involves her combo-ing back into her Finishing Shower hyper combo. While this technically means that the combo isn’t a true infinite (she can’t continue once she’s out of meter), the video below demonstrates that she only really needs to use 2 bars to effectively kill most characters.

A hitbox viewer for The King of Fighters XIV is already in development

One of the great things about fighting games getting PC ports is all the tools that players can develop around them. Hitbox viewers are one such tool, especially since we still don’t get these with every game.

With The King of Fighters XIV coming to PC, many were expecting such a mod to eventually be developed. However, what many people weren’t expecting was how soon we would get one! Yes, with the game is still only in beta, we already have a player-made hitbox viewer in the works. French player Loïc Petit, aka WydD has, on the request of Eric “Dantarion” Sheppard, started working on one.

As you’ll notice, the tool is pretty rudimentary in its current state–it doesn’t even overlay itself over the game properly. However, the folks behind the Frame Trapped hitbox viewer for Street Fighter V have already offered to help complete the viewer.

With the latter’s help, hopefully a fully-featured hitbox viewer can be released in time for The King of Fighters XIV‘s Steam Edition this coming June.

Tekken 7’s new story trailer: Get ready for a final showdown filled with blood and anger

Tekken 7 isn’t just a new installment in Bandai Namco’s long running franchise–the game is supposed to be the finale of the Mishima family storyline that has dominated the series’ plot for over two decades. Thus the game’s story, and how it closes out this chapter, is something many fans are looking forward to.

This is the focus of a new trailer for Tekken 7; the trailer below shows the connections that everyone has to the Mishima family, while also building towards what may be the epic conclusion of this story arc.

Akuma’s learned some new moves in this mod for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

With the release of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on PC, a sizable community has sprung up around modifying the game. We’ve featured a few of these mods before, such as making the final boss stage playable, or swapping moves around. However, the more interesting ones are those that actually change up the way characters play and add new moves.

One such mod is this Akuma mod by spuaidatab. The mod changes some of his moves properties and adds few new moves for Akuma. The biggest changes are the addition of a “Shin Akuma” mode as well as a new hyper combo. Yes, using animations from his winpose, they’ve been able to recreate Akuma’s Kongou Kokuretsuzan super art from Street Fighter III (albeit while only facing one side due to animation issues at the moment).

Check out the modded Akuma in action in the video below.

Final Showdown highlights a new infinite combo concept for Hayato in Marvel vs. Capcom 2

With people tending to focus on whatever new games are out these days, it’s easy to forget that new things can still be found in older games, even decades later. On creator however who’s been doing a great job highlighting older games is Clayton “Final Showdown” Chapman who has returned with a new Marvel vs. Capcom 2 video.

In the video below, Final Showdown demonstrates a concept for a new infinite combo for MvC2’s Hayato. Now the loop he shows below is just a concept. There are a few other things that need to be done before it can be considered usable, such as figuring out good ways to get into the loop, as well as seeing if it deals enough damage in the long run before the game’s loop killing “undizzy” system hits. That said, the combo itself looks promising, and we can likely expect it to appear in one of Final Showdown’s combo videos in the future.

Watch out: An Injustice 2 bug can cause players to (temporarily) lose their character’s progress

One of the unique new features added to Injustice 2 is a character progression system, based on gear that players can earn. While not relevant to competitive play, it’s a nice system to encourage more casual players to stick to the game. But sadly, it seems that a glitch has been found that can interfere with the hard work that a player has put into their gear.

The glitch seems to occur when players either quit or get disconnected from the game’s servers. Upon logging back on, players find that their characters have lost a number of levels, but are still wearing their current gear–that they’re now under-leveled for. The catch of course is that players cannot swap gear, as they will not be able to put their old gear back on.

Warner Bros. Games is currently aware of the issue, and are apparently working on a fix. In the meantime, Kotaku has confirmed that the workaround for this is to clear the console’s local cache, by powering down the console and waiting 20 to 30 seconds before powering it back on. This should correct the problem and restore your progress.

Senko no Ronde 2 is coming to PlayStation 4 and PC this September

Despite the genre’s habit of sticking to some tried-and-true conventions, there are some fighting game franchises that try to break the mold. One such franchise is the Senko no Ronde series of games, which combines traditional fighting game mechanics with those of a scrolling shooting game. The result is a game that takes both traditional 2D fighting game space control and projectile combat onto another level.

Now, Degica Games, Chara-Ani, and G.rev have announced that the latest installment of the series, Senko no Ronde 2, will be coming to both PlayStation 4, and PC (via Steam) on September 7. The digital edition of the game on PlayStation 4 in Japan will cost ¥ 4,800 ($43.50 USD). Meanwhile Kadokawa will also be releasing standard and limited edition physical copies of the game for ¥5,800 ($52.50 USD) and ¥9,800 ($88.70 USD) respectively.  Included in the limited edition of the game are the  “Senko no Ronde 2 Materials Guide” creation materials book, a creation materials DVD, and the original soundtrack CD.

As for the West, a similar set of digital–as well as standard and limited edition physical releases–are also planned for PlayStation 4. Details on these, however, have not yet been released.

In the meantime: here is the intro movie, and some gameplay footage.
