Last week, ARIKA released a video announcing that they were working on a PC port of Fighting EX Layer. The video itself didn’t reveal much, just showing the game running in a window on a PC. Now, ARIKA has opened up about the development of this version, and the arcade version, via Facebook.

ARIKA starts their Facebook post by thanking people for the support that allowed them to release two additional characters for the game. They follow up on this, however, by stating that their resources are still limited. The reason they’re able to work on both an arcade and Steam version is due to the fact that both will be running on Windows.

Originally, this meant that they wouldn’t be updating the PlayStation 4 version during this time, again due to their limited resources. The Steam and arcade versions, which would be 1.1.1, were to have no differences in gameplay with the current 1.1.0 version in the PS4. However, ARIKA head Akira Nishitani decided that he wanted to further change some of the Gougi decks. As such, to make sure that the PlayStation 4 version remains up to date with the other versions, they have decided that they will be updating the it to version 1.1.1 as well.

Additionally, they state that any future updates and content that will be coming to the game are still dependent on the sales of the upcoming versions. Finally, in regards to cross-platform play, they conceded that they do not have the funding to deploy all the back end server hardware that would be required for such a thing to happen.

While it used to be a given that fighting games would come to arcades first, now that isn’t quite the case. As such, it’s quite a surprise when an upcoming game does get an arcade version announced.

Koei Tecmo has confirmed that their upcoming Dead or Alive 6 will be getting an arcade version in Japan. The arcade version will run on Sega’s ALL-Net P-ras Multi Version 3 arcade game distribution service.  This likely also means that it’s running one of Sega’s PC based arcade boards. As for other details, more information regarding this arcade port is supposed to be revealed at a later date.

The home version of Dead or Alive 6 is coming to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on February 15, 2019.

For any players interested in Arcade1Up’s arcade cabinets — but weren’t able to obtain them from their first release — here’s some great news. Pre-orders for these 3/4-sized arcade cabinets are now open in stock at Walmart, and they’re discounted to boot.

Originally priced at $399, Arcade1Up’s 3/4 sized arcade cabinets can now be ordered for only $299 over at Walmart. In addition to these, they’re also offered with free 2-day shipping for the cabinets.

Arcade1Up’s cabinets are slightly miniaturized (4 feet in height), flat-packed takes on the classic American style arcade cabinet. It comes in various flavors, each focusing on a specific game or franchise, with matching arcade controls. The Street Fighter II version (which is the one that’ll most likely interest our audience, naturally) features arcade emulations of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, Super Street Fighter II: the New Challengers, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

Each cabinet comes flat-packed and requires some assembly. While they’re sized for sitting down, a riser can also be purchased to allow for an “authentic” stand-up experience.

For anyone who pre-orders any of these cabinets, shipping will start on October 16.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will finally hit arcades in Japan in 2019

At the 2018 Tokyo Game Show, Hamster Corporation announced the next batch of games coming to their Arcade Archives line. Among these were a number of NEO GEO titles coming to ACE NEO GEO, including a couple of fighters.

Coming to the ACA NEO GEO line are Savage Reign and The King of Fighters 2001. The latter should need no introduction, being the final installment of The King of Fighters‘ NESTS Saga. The former, on the other hand, is a game set in the distant future of the Fatal Fury/Art of Fighting timeline, featuring a mix of weapons-based combat, and the plane-switching first seen in Fatal Fury.

In addition to these, the arcade version of Nintendo’s Urban Champion was also listed among the upcoming releases for the regular Arcade Archives line.

As for when all of these will be released, no details as of yet have been given. Same as for what consoles Savage Reign and The King of Fighters 2001 will be released on (Urban Champion, being a Nintendo game, is a Switch exclusive).
