Studio Trigger’s Kazuki Nakashima is writing a new story for Kill la Kill the Game: IF starring Satsuki Kiryuin

Arc System Works recently revealed some new details regarding the story of Kill la Kill the Game: IF. Specifically, the game will feature an original story starring Satsuki Kiryuin, series deuteragonist and rival of Ryuko Matoi.

The new story is being penned by none other than the original writer of the Kill la Kill anime, Studio Trigger’s Kazuki Nakashima. The story diverges from the original plot Kill la Kill, around the middle of the anime’s story.

As part of this new story, Satsuki gains a new costume called “Junketsu Shinzui”. The new costume, designed by Shigeto Koyama with touch-ups by Kill la Kill character designer Sushio, is meant to be Satsuki’s counterpart to the “Senketsu Kisaragi” that Ryuko wore during the latter part of the anime.

Interestingly enough, “Junketsu Shinzui” was an unused design that was originally shown in one of the art books released for the series. In fact, the silhouette of the design that ArcSys has released (which you can see below) does seem to be based on that unused design.

New leak reveals Samurai Shodown and SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy characters, The King of Fighters XV in development

With its recent announcement, many people are speculating on who will be included in Samurai Shodown‘s cast. Now, a known source has not only leaked possible characters for Samurai Shodown, but future DLC characters for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy as well.

DasVergeben (who hinted at the existence of the new Samurai Shodown months ago) has given out the identities of two characters being added to SNK’s Samurai Shodown revival: Rimururu and Shiki. Of these two, it’s the latter whose inclusion is interesting, seeing as she’s never actually been in a 2D Samurai Shodown game, despite being popular enough to be included in crossovers such as SvC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom and NEO GEO Battle Coliseum.

In addition to this, he mentions while he hasn’t been told about the full roster, he can confirm that it will include characters not shown in the painting in the announce trailer.

As for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, he mentions that the remaining DLC characters for the game will be a female Skullomania, Miss X (Iori’s cross dressing alter-ego from SNK Gals Fighters), and Janne d’Arc from World Heroes.

Finally, he states that SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is a “side project” for SNK. The two main games they’re working on are Samurai Shodown and the as of yet un-announced The King of Fighters XV, which is still very early in development.

Of course, regardless of DasVergeben’s track record, we do encourage our readers to take all leaks with a grain of salt.

ARIKA showed off a new trailer for Fighting EX Layer at the Tokyo Game Show

ARIKA’s presence at the 2018 Tokyo Game Show was mostly about the upcoming physical release of Fighting EX Layer. As part of this, they’ve released a new trailer that they showed off at Konami’s booth at the event.

The trailer below goes over the existing features of Fighting EX Layer — covering all the current characters, including the recently added Pullum Purna and Vulcano Rosso, as well as the game’s Gougi decks. Sadly, it doesn’t offer anything in the way of hints for the upcoming characters, even guest character Terry Bogard.

Fighting EX Layer‘s physical disc release arrives on PlayStation 4 in Japan on December 6, 2018. The digital version of the game itself is already available for purchase over on the PlayStation Store.

Combonauts presents this stylish SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy combo video for Sylvie

While it’s ostensibly a fighting game designed with simpler inputs, SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy has proven itself to have a combo system that’s quite open to some modicum of creativity — and Combonauts exploit this system in their newest combo video for the game.

The video below focuses on Sylvie Paula Paula, one of the more unique-looking additions to the SNK canon. The video below has the added challenge of not using items to extend the combo, so all the combos below are extended only with the tools Sylvie has, in addition to tagging into herself.

Final Showdown explores Teen Gohan’s combo potential, including a TOD using a hitstun glitch, in Dragon Ball FighterZ

Final Showdown is back with another set of Dragon Ball FighterZ combo videos. For this batch, he returns to one of his favorite character to break down: Teen Gohan.

The video below focus on various max damage combos for Teen Gohan. The recent patch has made some of his old loops more lenient, resulting in more practical damage becoming available for the character.

In addition to the mid-screen conversions shown above, he also shows combos Teen Gohan can do with his back to the wall, comparing the damage outputs and positioning of these various options.

Last, but not least, Final Showdown also demonstrates a bug where Teen Gohan gains extra hitstun doing his uppercut out of an autocombo. He uses this in the video below to set up a touch-of-death combo.

Team NINJA’s Yohei Shimbori discusses Dead or Alive 6’s graphics, gameplay, and its yet-unrevealed female newcomer

At the 2018 Tokyo Game Show, Famitsu got a chance to talk to Team NINJA’s Yohei Shimbori, the producer behind Dead or Alive 6. During the interview, they talked about various topics including its graphics, story, and new characters.

In regards to the graphics, Shimbori actually states that the graphics engine was not yet complete. This is an interesting statement considering, as Famitsu noted, how much an improvement Dead or Alive 6‘s graphics already are over its predecessor.

Meanwhile, regarding the gameplay, Shimbori states that he wants to emphasize reading over reacting to an opponents recovery. He also mentions wanting to change the flow of the game from “Critical → Critical → Critical” (likely referring to how the previous game tried to emphasize going for deep critical stuns). Instead, he wants players to have a choice between options such as going for early launchers, or simply doing Fatal Rush in combos. Regarding Fatal Rush, he confirms that they changed its start up time to 18 frames for the TGS build, though he states that it may still change in the future.

In addition to this, Famitsu also brought up the game’s female newcomer, someone Shimbori hinted at previously. Regarding her, all Shimbori stated was that she had a top-class voice actress, before admitting that this wasn’t much of a hint at all.

Of course, they talks a bit more about other things as well, including the game’s story. You can check out the entire interview (in Japanese) over at Famitsu.

Dead or Alive 6 is currently being shown off at the 2018 Tokyo Game Show where recently revealed characters Ayane, Bayman, Honoka, and Marie Rose are playable. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on February 15, 2019.

Fighting Vipers will be coming to PlayStation 4 — as part of Project Judge

Following up on the addition of a playable Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown in Yakuza 6, Sega’s Ryu ga Gotoku Studio is adding yet another classic fighter into one of their games. AM2’s 1995 classic Fighting Vipers is set to be playable in their upcoming Project Judge.

Fighting Vipers will be one of two classic arcade games (the other being Motor Raid) that will be playable in play spots in Project Judge. This marks the first time that Motor Raid has been officially playable on non-Sega hardware; Fighting Vipers has had digital releases on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, though. As was the case with Yakuza 6, Project Judge will feature complete builds of both games, playable in their entirety.

Project Judge launches on PlayStation 4 in Japan, Asia, and South Korea on December 13, 2018 followed by a western release sometime in 2019.
