SPOTV Games Announces Street Fighter V Crash

South Korea is a country that’s known for pioneering eSports on live television. More than a few well respected games are broadcast over the nation’s airwaves, and now, Street Fighter V is set to join that list.

SPOTV Games recently announced a new show called Street Fighter V Crash. Similar to Tekken Crash before it, this program will focus on team tournaments for groups of three players, broadcast both over South Korean television and the internet.

Street Fighter V Crash will start run from April 10 to June 5 at Seoul’s Nexon Arena. A double elimination format will be in effect until top 16, where things will change to single elimination.

For those interested in joining, IPLAYWINNER has a copy of the registration form available for download that you can fill up to send to the SFV Crash directly. Take note that registration is open until March 31.

Samurai Warriors’ Naotora Ii Now Playable in Dead or Alive 5 Last Round

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round’s cast has grown yet again with the release of Samurai Warriors representative Naotora Ii, who is now available for download on consoles.

To help celebrate her launch, Team NINJA shared a couple of new videos. The first is a debut trailer showing quick clips of the newcomer in action.

The second video, however, is a little more interesting, as it highlights a number combos at Naotora’s disposal, complete with notation. While damage isn’t shown, most of the combos in the video demonstrate a decent ability to carry her opponents to the wall.

In addition to another character, this update also adds a new stage (Azuchi from Dead or Alive 3) and a batch of costumes based on the Samurai Warriors franchise. Naotora herself has five costumes available for purchase.

Naotora Ii is up for purchase on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and will arrive on PC via Steam on March 29.

Don’t Let Her Looks Fool You; King of Fighters XIV Newcomer Sylvie Has Ties to NESTS

In their most recent trailer, SNK Playmore revealed a King of Fighters XIV newcomer named Sylvie, and now we have some new details on her unique style, background, and more.

The first thing most people noticed about Sylvie is her eclectic look, drawing comparisons to Japanese pop idol Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, herself known for a similarly outrageous style inspired by fashions from Tokyo’s Harajuku neighborhood. Even her full name, Sylvie Paula Paula, seems to be an homage to Kyary.

As for her backstory, Sylvie was actually former member of the now defunct NESTS cartel, who acted as the main antagonists for the second story arc told in the period between King of Fighters ’99 and 2001. The reason we never saw her is because, apparently, her powers developed only after the organization fell. She’s been invited to participate in the King of Fighters XIV tournament after being noticed in underground fights.

But it’s not all about Sylvie. Kim Kaphwan’s motivations now revolve around simply proving the strength of his Taekwondo instead of the whole “reforming criminals” beat from previous games. As for Vice, her exact reasons for once again manifesting in the world of the living have not been explained.

Finally, two more stages were also unveiled. The first, Navajoland, is set near a highway truck stop, and was designed to resemble something out of a 1980s road trip movie. It also serves as the home stage of the Fatal Fury team, a fitting tribute to a similar stage from Real Bout Fatal Fury 2.

The second new stage is called Masquerade and represents the underground fighting ring Sylvie continues to call home.

Shin Blanka, Infiltration Discuss Final Round, Street Fighter V, and More with Best of III

The Daily Dot’s Best of III has returned once again with another episode of their fighting game community talk show. This time around, they invited two special guests from different ends of the scene.

First up is Larry “Shin Blanka” Dixon, who most will know as the organizer behind Final Round. Naturally, they discuss this weekend’s installment, but they also touch on the event’s status as the first Capcom Pro Tour premier event, issues that tournament organizers face, and more.

On the opposite end, Best of III talks to one of the community’s most dominant competitors, Razer’s Seon-woo “Infiltration” Lee. Here, Infiltration talks about his fighting game career and how it changed after being picked up by a major sponsors, as well as his thoughts on Street Fighter V when compared to previous beta builds.

Vice, Kim, and Newcomer Sylvie Join the King of Fighters XIV Cast

SNK Playmore just dropped another trailer for the King of Fighters XIV. This teaser showcases a few returning characters, as well as a brand new fighter named Sylvie.

With her cutesy outfit and demeanor, Sylvie is certainly an interesting looking addition to a franchise that hasn’t shied away from similar characters in the past. Her reveal also further confirms a recent leak, where she’s listed as a member of the “Official Invitation” team.

As for the returning characters, the trailer also unveils Vice and Kim Kaphwan. The former now rocks a look that combines elements of her classic and modern incarnations, while the latter is still the hot-blooded, justice obsessed Taekwondo-jin we’ve come to know and love.

The King of Fighters XIV launches on PlayStation 4 sometime this year.

Doopliss Bids Farewell to Rising Thunder with One Last Combo Video

As some of you may have heard, Rising Thunder is closing, due in part to Radiant Entertainment’s acquisition by Riot Games. To help give the indie fighter a proper farewell, Doopliss has put together one last combo video.

Based on build 1728, the video below contains combos for every character in the game. In this fitting tribute, Doopliss uses some unique loadouts that include latest available specials to help string together some impressive looking combos.

Floe’s Vega Faces Snake Eyez’ Zangief in This Extended Street Fighter V Set

It’s always a treat to see top players play long sets. The extended format allows both competitors more room to experiment and adapt to each other, which often times gives new insights to how certain matchups can be played.

One such set, played between Ari “Floe” Weintraub and Red Bull’s Darryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis, is highlighted in the following video. Their ten-game set is a must watch for players of either character; Vega users will surely get some good knowledge on the matchup from Floe, and Snake Eyez provides a showcase of Zangief strengths when making good reads..

Kim Wu Rocks Rad Recolors in Killer Instinct Season 3

Last week, Microsoft and Iron Galaxy Studios gave us a look at the full spectrum of alternate colors guest character Rash will have available in Killer Instinct Season 3, and now they’ve set their sights on the return of Kim Wu.

Most of Kim’s colors revolve around the basic purple that’s associated with her character. Reflecting her new backstory as a spunky fashion design student, this is matched with a plethora of bright colors in both her clothes and hair.

For those who prefer a more classic look, the team also dropped images of Kim’s retro costume. Unlike her modern design, each alternate for her retro costume is mostly based on a single dominant color, reflecting the character’s 90s roots.

Mortal Kombat X’s Bo’ Rai Cho Busts Out Some Damaging Bartitsu Combos

Mortal Kombat X recently saw the return of drunken master Bo’ Rai Cho. As part of his return, he sports a few new fighting styles, including a cane variation based on the Victorian English martial art of Bartitsu.

Elite Tournament Chile’s Mcfly provided the community with a brand new video devoted to showcasing what this variation capable of. The combos shown here do damage ranging from 36% meterless to about 59%, taking advantage of both Bo’ Rai Cho’s cane and fart attacks for stun potential.

Aside from both practical mid-screen and corner combos, the video below also demonstrates a few stage-specific strings that take advantage of interactable elements.
