Nobuyuki Kuroki confirms that new Samurai Shodown is being made by the same team as The King of Fighters XIV and SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy

Ever since it was announced, there has been some speculation on who is actually doing development on SNK’s new Samurai Shodown (a.k.a. Samurai Spirits). The game running on Unreal Engine 4, as well as featuring an art style reminiscent more of Street Fighter IV has led some to wonder if people who worked on the latter, such as artist Daigo Ikeno, are involved in the new game.

Well, now the speculation can end. SNK’s Nobuyuki Kuroki, who was the art director for The King of Fighters XIV, has confirmed that not only is he resuming the role for Samurai Shodown, he’s also now in the director’s chair as well.

In addition to this, Kuroki has also confirmed that Samurai Shodown is being developed in-house at SNK. In fact, the team working on it is the same team that worked on The King of Fighters XIV, and SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy.

While this may surprise some, considering that SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy just launched and is still receiving updates, the latter does reuse a lot from their previous game. More importantly, it does mean that a number of veteran developers of the genre who worked on the previous games, including battle director Hidetoshi “Neo_G” Ishizawa — whose credits include Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Capcom vs. SNK 2, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 — are now hard at work on the new Samurai Shodown.

Samurai Shodown is set to launch sometime in 2019.

Final Fantasy XI’s Kam’lanaut is Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s next DLC Character

During their recent livestream for the game, Square Enix finally revealed the identity of the next DLC character for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

Joining the cast of Square Enix’s 3-on-3 arena fighter is Kam’lanaut from the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI. For those not familiar with him, he’s one of the two remaining Zilart princes. He’s actually a boss that players can battle twice as part of a couple of quests in that game.

As part of the announcement, Square Enix released a trailer showing off some of what Kan’lanaut can do in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

Kam’lanaut will first arrive in the game’s arcade version, Dissidia Final Fantasy as part of the September update. He will then be available for purchase on PlayStation 4 in October.

With this announcement, only two more DLC characters remain as part of the game’s Season Pass. These are a female from the newer half of the Final Fantasy series (one who’s a veteran of the previous Dissidia games), and a male character from the same half of the series, who is making their Dissidia debut in this game.

Final Showdown explores more combos and tech for Frieza, Piccolo, and Teen Gohan in Dragon Ball FighterZ

One of Dragon Ball FighterZ’‘s most prolific combo creators, Final Showdown, has returned with another set of videos. This new series of videos continues to focus on characters he’s spent a lot of time breaking down in previous videos, namely Piccolo, Teen Gohan, and Frieza.

On the latter, Final Showdown explores his bread-and-butter combos, attempting to figure out the maximum damage he can squeeze from them.

Speaking of big damage, this next combo does 90% damage with no help from other characters.

The final Frieza video features another big damage solo combo, featuring the use of his discs to links into supers. Additionally, it also shows off some things he can do with his discs.

Moving on to Piccolo, we know that Final Showdown has been obsessed with figuring out things he can do with his orbs post-patch. And this new video for him demonstrates a few more combos with them: ones that happen to have good corner carry.

In addition to this, he also demonstrates an interesting property with his grounded arm grab. After he lands it, for some reason, the game gives Piccolo an extra hard attack, allowing him to do two hard attacks in a chain.

Finally, we return to what seems to be Final Showdown’s favorite character, Teen Gohan. The combos in the video below are “scrapped” ideas that never really evolved into something useful, but still look interesting enough to show.
