Arc System Works’ Toshimichi Mori Remarks on Chances of BlazBlue, Guilty Gear Crossover

To celebrate their 600th issue, Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki PlayStation put out a questionnaire to numerous game developers, using these informal interviews to ask them about specific details on their projects. Arc System Works’ Toshimichi Mori, who is perhaps best known as the lead mind behind the BlazBlue franchise, was asked about the possibility of his series crossing over with Guilty Gear.

While such a game would likely excite Arc System Works’ fans, Mori responded by saying now isn’t the time for such a crossover. He cited the fact that both games still have underlying storylines that have yet to be finished, but also said they would consider the idea as time goes on.

As for what the immediate future holds, Mori noted that he is interested in progressing the story regarding the BlazBlue universe’s mysterious Azure.

Rukunetsu Remixes Street Fighter II’s Classic Character Select Theme for Street Fighter V

Arguably one of the most iconic piece of music in the entire Street Fighter canon, Yoko Shimomura’s Street Fighter II character select theme is one of the first pieces of music that many people heard back in the day, forever etching it the hearts and minds of fans.

Rukunetsu is one of those fans who remembers this theme fondly and, as a tribute, he’s created this new remix that tries to update it to fit the style of the upcoming Street Fighter V. While the remix might lack the guitar heavy riffs of the actual Street Fighter V select theme (since it still samples the original), it does add enough new elements that make it feel as if it would work in Capcom’s next fighter.

For those interested in listening to the remix, you can check it out below or on Soundcloud.

Additional Character and Stage Placeholders Found in Super Smash Bros. After Latest Patch

While the latest installment of the Super Smash Bros. series continues to be updated with balance patches by Nintendo, the only content that’s been released since then focuses on stages and cosmetic items. But that may be changing soon if what some intrepid data miners have found is correct.

Buried within the game’s code following the recent ver.1.1.1 patch are placeholders for what seem to be three new characters and three new stages. Shiny Quagsire has shared the following images of the code.

Interestingly enough, all the the placeholders are named Mario. This may likely be a reaction to how Ryu and Roy were leaked in an update last April. This way, even if people discover that there are new characters coming to the game, their identities are kept secret until Nintendo decides to announce them.

Meanwhile, the stages are the slots labelled “Tikibuzz&#8221$$ take note that while there seem to be six slots, these are divided between the normal and omega versions of the stages. These three stages likely represent stages for each of the three new characters.

Take note that this is all speculation on part of the fans. Nintendo still has the final say on whether or not these do materialize into actual characters and stages in the game. With the fan ballot ending tomorrow, it’s likely we’ll have more information sooner rather than later, so stay tuned.

D-Link Sponsors Steve “LordKnight” Barthelemy

If there’s one name that tends to stand out in the United States’ airdasher scene, it’s Team Spooky’s Steve Barthelemy, more commonly known as LordKnight. Barthelemy has been at the forefront of many of these “anime” games for some time, proving himself as one of the best American players in Melty Blood, BlazBlue, Persona, and Guilty Gear.

It’s no surprise then that Barthelemy has found himself a sponsor in D-Link, a Taiwan-based corporation that focuses on the production of networking equipment. While the details of his signing haven’t been made public, they will be providing him with hardware for online gaming and broadcasting.

This sponsorship represents the first time that D-Link has supported a competitive gamer, though they have made themselves available as event sponsors in the past.

Our community typically only sees these kinds of signings happen in the world of Street Fighter and Smash, so it’s great that things are starting to spread to the realm of airdashers. Let’s hope this relationship proves fruitful and leads to more like it in the future.

Make Use of Overdrive Startup Properties for Half the Meter in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-‘s Yellow Roman Cancel system has been the source of more than a few useful strategies in the game. Previously, players were able to use it to set up an option select against Dead Angle attacks as long as they had 25-49% tension. Now, another trick has been discovered that lets players use it to gain invulnerable frames.

According to eSports Runner and GREATFERNMAN, all characters in Guilty Gear Xrd can YRC the startup frames of their Overdrive moves. In doing so, they cancel the Overdrive before it consumes their tension gauge while at the same time retaining whatever properties the startup of the Overdrive had, such as first frame invulnerability, before the YRC activates. This allows players new options in certain situations and only costs 25% meter.

This technique exists in both Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- as well as in the newly released Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. In the latter, it also allows players to YRC out of Burst Overdrives without consuming their Burst meter.

Scores Settled, Opinions Defended During Absolute Battle 6’s Ultra Fight Night Exhibitions

In addition to the main tournament, Absolute Battle 6 was also host to another installment of PandaxGaming’s Ultra Fight Night exhibition series, which has hosted showmatches at various tournaments in the region. This edition in particular featured some very special matches due to the stories leading up to them.

The first of these was the Ultra Street Fighter IV match between Tommy Gunz and Pandora House’s Crackfiend. Some months ago, Gunz called out Crackfiend, leading to a rather heated exchange in the weeks leading up to Absolute Battle. The result: Crackfiend flew from Northern California to Texas to settle the score.

Meanwhile, Hamad previously made statements regarding the Ryu vs. Dhalsim matchup in Ultra Street Fighter IV. According to him, the pairing is against Ryu’s favor, but strong players can make good things happen. To prove his point, he went up against Hypersurge’s Dhalsim.

And finally, Terry Bogard was supposed to go up against Panda Global’s Filipino Champ in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but personal reservations kept the Marvel god from attending. As such, Bogard was forced to defend his crown as Texas’ best player against a mystery opponent, who turned out to be K-Brad of Evil Geniuses, in the main event of Ultra Fight Night.

Of course, these are just some of the matches that took place at Absolute Battle 6. Be sure to head on over to PandaxGaming’s official playlist for more.
