NorCal’s Vineeth “Apologyman” Meka has made a name for himself over the past few years as one of the best Firebrand players in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Now, to showcase some of the more ridiculous things he’s discovered, Meka has released a brand new combo video focused entirely on the Red Arremer itself.
As expected, the video below features a large number of flashy combos. While some use Meka’s regular team to provide Firebrand backup from Super-Skrull and Doctor Doom, a good number utilize other characters for some very specific setups to either start or extend combos.
This exhibition is just as impressive as the player himself, so do yourself a favor and check it out.
While it may not immediately come to mind when thinking of strong areas in the fighting game comunity, Utah has produced its share to top players, with competitors such as 801 Strider and iPeru have become familiar sights in the upper echelons of many tournaments throughout the country.
To help get the word out on the state’s scene, Steven “SRM Slinkun” Malecki produced The Saltiest Lake, a short student film that takes a closer look at the region. The documentary, which you can see below, features interviews with some of the bright lights of their scene (including the aforementioned duo), giving insight into their growing community.
For those who love to dress-up their favorite fighting game characters, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round’s Senran Kagura costumes are on the cusp of their official release. These alternate outfits dress some of the game’s fighters up as characters from the Marvelous Entertainment series of the same name.
This is the first set of downloadable costumes that is exclusive to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As such, they feature something that previous costumes don’t have – clothing damage. The costumes now undergo visible wear and tear during the fight, much like the franchise they’ve been pulled from.
Each individual costume goes for $3, and the whole package can be purchased for $34. Previews can be found in the gallery below.
These outfits are currently available through Xbox Live, and should appear on PlayStation Network sometime this week.
With Mortal Kombat X, NetherRealm Studios seems to be applying some lessons learned from their previous game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, when it comes to stage interaction. Though at a smaller scale than its predecessor, the upcoming title allows characters to utilize parts of the arena to attack or move throughout the stage.
That said, there is one feature from the DC Comics fighter that hasn’t been seen in Mortal Kombat X – stage transitions. Unlike Injustice, players won’t be able to knock their opponents into different areas for a damage boost.
According to creative director Ed Boon, however, that almost wasn’t the case. They planned to include stage transitions early on, he said in reply to a fan question on Twitter, but the mechanic was later removed.
This isn’t all that surprising, seeing as game’s typically cut planned features as they prove to be unfeasible, but one can’t help but wonder how the game would look if this particular piece of gameplay was kept in the final build.
Would you have liked to see stage transitions in Mortal Kombat X? Or should they remain a feature exclusive to Injustice? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
For obvious reasons, most of the attention given to Killer Instinct’s second season has focused on the new additions to its cast. That said, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything new for the original characters from season one.
In his latest video, Hughboyzilla once again goes over some tips and tricks for Orchid. This time, however, the video focuses on what she can do with the changes in season two. This includes combos, meaty setups, safe jumps, and more.
Check the video out and see if it can help you step up your game.
Bandai Namco Games recently released the debut TV spot for the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden.
The video, which you can see below, doesn’t really cover anything that hasn’t been revealed in our previouscoverage, that said it is nice to finally see the Arc System Works-developed game in motion, even if just for a short while.
Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden is the latest installment in the long running Butouden series. This latest iteration lands on Nintendo 3DS in Japan on June 11.
Before there was BROKENTIER, before the Underground Syndicate Asked “When’s Mahvel?”, before we had shirts complaining about behavior on TeeSpring, even before Street Fighter IV revitalized the community, Bishop “Shatterstar” Wagner, or Shatta as he was known to those in the community, made one of the first lines of apparel for our community: Negro Install.
Originally starting from a joke turned into a bet, his clothing soon represented going beyond what you considered your limits, striving for success, and overcoming all obstacles, laying the groundwork for other folks to start many of the enterprises we see today.
Now why, you may be asking, are we writing about this? Because Shatta needs our help. He’s currently fighting one of the most important battles of his life against cancer. As anybody who has either had to endure such a disease or even just witnessed a family member go through this battle knows, it’s far from easy. It is a long, drawn out ordeal that tests the endurance of both the patient, their friends, and their family.
Fortunately for Shatta, a couple of charities, Hope for Young Adults With Cancer and Sy’ Fund, have helped him out during this time of need. Now, to be able to help these same charities, Shatta has created his own fundraiser to give back. He’s not asking for people to raise money for him personally; rather, he wants to help the organizations continue their efforts so that other young adults can receive the same support.
Those interested in helping out can head on over to In the Black Label’s page on Crowd Rise. The campaign, which carries the motto “We Black On to Black Out Cancer” is hoping to make $10,000 from the sale of t-shirts, hoodies, and fitted caps. If the goal is met, a portion of the proceeds will to both charities (with the rest of the money being spent on the actual production of the items for sale). Even if that goal isn’t met, however, 10% will still be given to the organizations in question.
For more information, head on over to the official thread on the forums. In the meantime, here’s some words from Shatta himself.
After taking a hiatus in 2014, one of Brazil’s largest fighting game tournaments returns this November with Treta Championship Pride.
Players from Brazil and beyond will converge on Curtiba, Parana state to compete in games like Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, Mortal Kombat X, King of Fighters XIII, Super Street Fighter II Turbo.
Originally started as a way for the Brazilian scene to have its own major tournament, Treta Championship had its biggest tournament to date in 2013 with Treta Aftermath, which saw players such as HORI’s Sako Naoto fly in from abroad to compete.
Treta Championship Pride is scheduled for the weekend of October 31 at Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Parana.
Many games these days, including fighting games, are often released alongside strategy guides to help players acclimate themselves to their mechanics. While these guides contain a decent amount of information about the game they cover, they’re usually not enough to get players started in truly playing the game at a competitive level.
To address this, Dead or Alive players Legendary Goken and Force of Nature have decided to create their own strategy guide for the franchise’s latest release, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round.
Top Tier Tips is a beginners guide that covers some of the more intricate aspects of Last Round’s system, including punishes, usage of throws and offensive holds, the stun system, stagger escapes, side steps, fuzzy guards, and more.
While it doesn’t highlight some of the more advanced mechanics in the interest of not becoming too complex for new players, it should be enough to prepare beginners for matches with actual opponents.
When the Skullgirls developers held their successful crowdfunding campaign, one of the stretch goals was an alternate announcer voiced by lead programmer Mike Zaimont, using his famous “Real Soviet Damage” persona from the official BlazBlue tutorial he took part in years back. Much like previous content, this voice pack was recently added to the game’s Endless Beta on Steam.
If you don’t have access to this version of the indie fighter, Skullheart forum moderator Cellsai recently compiled a voice reel with all the sayings Zaimont pumped out for this release. Check it out below and let us know what you think.
