Catch Kill la Kill: The Game in action with this new footage from IGN

One of the more interesting fighting games in development right now is Arc System Works and APlus Games’s Kill la Kill: The Game. Based on the hit anime series from Studio Trigger, the game is an arena fighter, something that’s quite different from ArcSys’s usual 2D fighting fare.

We’ve already learned quite a bit about of Kill la Kill: The Game, including details about the “Ketsui Hyoumei Enzetsu” speech combat system. Now, we get to see this in action thanks to this new video from IGN.

In addition to showing off the aforementioned gameplay systems, the video below also showcases how ArcSys and APlus have taken a lot of inspiration from the anime, similar to the former’s work on Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Kill la Kill: The Game is coming to PlayStation 4, and PC sometime in 2019.

Easter egg found for Cammy’s “Fiona Belli” Crossover Costume in Street Fighter V — and it’s also a Haunting Ground reference

Cammy finally wears pants in another tribute to the cult classic horror game.

Many costumes in Street Fighter V include special variations as “Easter eggs” that transform them (accessible by holding LP+MP+HP+LK+⇑ before a fight or between rounds). Now, the next costume to receive this treatment is none other than the upcoming “Fiona Belli” costume for Cammy, arriving soon via Extra Battle mode.

The costume is a reference to the 2005 survival horror game Haunting Ground with Cammy dressing up as Fiona Belli, the lead character from that game. While it isn’t officially available yet, Phtm_Miria over on r/StreetFighter has seemingly already discovered the Easter egg for it via datamining.

Interestingly enough, the costume isn’t just a slightly altered version of the original — rather, it’s a different costume altogether: specifically, the “Texas Cowgirl” alternate costume for Fiona that players received for getting Ending A in Haunting Grounds.

This is an interesting change of pace, considering that the “Fiona B” costume, which simply changes some details of the default outfit, would seem more in line with the usual costume Easter eggs. Could Capcom be making a joke about how Cammy, normally loathe to wear pants, gets an outfit that now has pants, but no shirt…?

For those interested in acquiring said costume, the first piece of it can be earned in Extra Battle mode starting later today.

Cooler gets into the action in this new Dragon Ball FighterZ trailer

Frieza’s brother demonstrates that revenge is best served cold.

At Evo 2018, Bandai Namco Games and Arc System Works revealed that Cooler would be coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ. Now, they’ve dropped another trailer showing even more of Cooler in action.

Beyond just showing some gameplay clips, the video below actually shows an actual match between a couple of appropriately-themed teams. Cooler is joined by Frieza and Ginyu, while facing off a team with Goku, Vegeta, and teen Gohan. While it’s hard to quantify the level of play in the match — the match seems to played in a way as set up a Cooler vs. Goku showdown — it does show us a glimpse of what may be in store for Dragon Ball FighterZ players in the future.

Here’s 10 minutes of Dead or Alive 6 at Gamescom 2018 from IGN

Team NINJA brought a new build of Dead or Alive 6 to Gamescom 2018 in Cologne last week. The build brought with it Hitomi, Leifang, a new stage, as well as a number of tweaks and changes compared to the previous builds at Evo and E3.

IGN has previously already showcased video of the game, featuring producer Yohei Shimbori showing off the newly-revealed characters. Now, however, they’re back with more video — 10 minutes of it, to be precise — just showing off matches and nothing else.

Aside from showing off matches with Hitomi and Leifang, the video below also has some of the other known cast members, including Hayabusa, Hayate, Jann Lee, and newcomer Diego. Of course, we also see a lot of the new “Forbidden Fortune” stage, showing off how its transition works, and how some of the elements in the stage can be used by players for more damage or setups.

Dead or Alive 6 arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2019.

The future of the SoulCalibur franchise depends on SoulCalibur VI’s success

The sales of this sixth entry could make or break the tale of souls and swords.

soulcalibur vi scvi sc6 story trailer logo 750x400

When SoulCalibur VI was announced at the Game Awards last December, it had been over 5 years since the previous game had been released. During that time, there was a lot of uncertainty about the series’ future — at least until this new game was announced.

Now, in an interview with DualShockers at Gamescom 2018, producer Motohiro Okubo explains that the series still isn’t exactly out of the woods yet. SoulCalibur VI itself almost didn’t happen, as Bandai Namco had low expectations for the franchise at that point, and it took a lot of convincing for him to actually be given the green light to do it.

More importantly, Okubo confirms that the future of the franchise could depend on the success of the game. When asked about whether SouCalibur VI  could be the last SoulCalibur game if it didn’t sell well, Okubo stated “Yeah, that’s right,” he continues by stating, “We don’t want to blackmail the users by saying that it could be the last one, but as it is, yes.”

With this, Okubo has made it pretty clear now how much the fate of the franchise rests on this latest entry. Will this be the final tale of souls and swords, or will the series once again rise to prominence? We’ll find out when SouCalibur VI launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 19th.

New Dead or Alive 6 screenshots show off classic costumes for Kasumi and Leifang

In the visuals we’ve seen for Dead or Alive 6 so far, many folks will have have noticed that many characters are wearing brand-new outfits. However, that doesn’t mean that their classic costumes won’t be in the game, as this new batch of screenshots from Famitsu demonstrate.

Dead or Alive 6 is coming to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in early 2019.

Best Buy listing indicates that amiibo may be used to unlock characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

With Nintendo releasing amiibo in time for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, some may be wondering what these figures will do in the new game. Now, it seems that they might be used to actually unlock the characters for use.

This new information was revealed in Best Buy Canada’s store pages for the amiibo for Wolf, Inkling, and Ridley. The overviews for each figure state that the player can unlock these characters for play simply by tapping their amiibo to the Switch’s NFC touchpoint.

Prior to this, producer Masahiro Sakurai already hinted that unlocking characters would be simpler for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; it seems that this method may be part of that. It may also be likely that the previously-released amiibo for other characters may also be used to unlock some of the playable fighters in the game.

Azwel is the second new character to join the cast of SoulCalibur VI

The “Leader of Humanity” enters this tale of souls and swords

In the recent “Libra of Souls” trailer for SoulCalibur VI, a new character was introduced to the title’s mythology but was left nameless. Now, Bandai Namco Entertainment officially revealed the name and moveset of the mysterious magician – Azwel.

A self-proclaimed “Leader of Humanity”, Azwel is the second original character to join the roster after Grøh. He wields an interesting weapon called the”Palindrome” that is able to summon other weapons out of thin air, even in the middle of his combos.

The latter half of the trailer hints at a powered up mode that players might have to fight at the end of the game (similar to some other bosses in the series’ history), one that appears to wield both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur.

SoulCalibur VI is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 19, 2018.
