Compare and contrast Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s returning stages with their Super Smash Bros. for Wii U counterparts

One of the main themes of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is bringing back as much as possible from previous games. Aside from the characters, this also includes a number of classic stages from the past. With this in mind, it’s only natural that fans would like compare these stages as they appear in the new game with their previous incarnations.

In the video below, GameXplain does exactly that, attempting to recreate the screenshots that have been released for the stages using Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Doing this gives us a hint of how these changes have — or haven’t — changed coming into the new game.

As a bonus, their attempts to do this seem to have also unearthed a more general change: the camera seems to move slightly differently, with them having trouble positioning it to get a true 1-to-1 recreation of the screenshots released for Smash Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to launch on Switch on December 7, 2018.

Bonchan showcases what Sagat can do in this Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition highlight reel from LiangHuBBB

Now, LiangHuBBB has compiled a video featuring highlights of Bonchan using Sagat in online matches in Street Fighter V:Arcade Edition.

As the video below shows, Bonchan seems pretty much at home with this new version of his character. He’s doing well with him online, while demonstrating some techniques and traps that other prospective Sagat players should likely learn.

Catch true love makin’ with match footage from the Capcom vs. SNK 2 monthly singles tournament at Club Sega Shinjuku

The classic Capcom vs. SNK 2 just refuses to die, largely in part thanks to the efforts of veteran players hosting tournaments for the game. One such tournament was the monthly CvS2 tournament at Club Sega Shinjuku.

The tournament, which took place this past weekend, featured a number of Japan’s top Capcom vs. SNK 2 players, including the legendary Ryo “d44BAS” Yoshida. Now, while the latter is still the most dominant force in the game, the rest of the players are no slouches either, showcasing how much the game’s meta has changed over the years.

For those interested in catching up with this tournament, d44BAS has now uploaded footage from it onto his YouTube channel. Take note that the video below is one long video covering the entire thing (and not individual match videos). That said, it’s still a treat for anyone who loves this game!

For anyone interested either watching or actually joining, the next Capcom vs. SNK 2 monthly singles tournament is scheduled for September 8.

SNK classics Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 coming to Switch, Garou: Mark of the Wolves coming to PlayStation 4 and XBox One in Japan

The  week will see a couple of classic games from SNK’s Fatal Fury series hit modern consoles in Japan thanks to Hamster Corporations ACA NEO GEO line — Real Bout  Fatal Fury 2: the Newcomers, and Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

Coming to Switch in Japan is Real Bout Fatal Fury 2. This is actually the 3rd Real Bout Fatal Fury game and the seventh Fatal Fury game overall, and introduces Rick Stroud and Li Xiangfei. In addition to this, it changes the way the series’ multi-lane battle system works – doing away with the ability to shift into the second lane, and instead turning that into a sway lane where players can temporarily move into to avoid attacks.

Meanwhile, Garou: Mark of the Wolves (which, arguably, needs no introduction to the FGC) arrives on PlayStation 4 and XBox One in Japan. The game is seen by many as SNK’s equivalent to Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and revamps the Fatal Fury formula. It does away with the multi-lane system altogether, and adds the unique T.O.P system which powers characters up depending on how much life they have.

Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 hit Switch as part of the ACA NEO GEO line yesterday, August 14. Garou: Mark of the Wolves will arrive on PlayStation 4 and XBox One as part of the sale ACA NEO GEO line this Thursday, August 16.

Novriltataki takes a look at Street Fighter’s constant reinvention, and how it tends to over-emphasize its new features

If there’s one thing that’s been consistent with Street Fighter throughout its history, it’s been how it tends to change almost wholesale for each new installment. The changes in each mainline installment make it so that each new game often feels very, very different from the last.

In a new video, Novriltataki takes a look into this phenomenon, and how it tends to lead to each installment unfortunately being focused on the new changes and mechanics to the point of feeling “gimmicky”.  It’s something that many veterans are already familiar with, and Novril does list out some of the most egregious examples, such as Street Fighter III‘s parries, and Street Fighter Alpha 3‘s V-ISM and ineffectual projectiles.

In addition to all this, Novril also points out how some other games have been able to implement new mechanics into a Street Fighter-style, grounded non-airdash fighter without them being as dominant.

Final Showdown showcases what Teen Gohan and Piccolo can now do after Dragon Ball FighterZ’s latest patch

Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s latest patch was meant to give some of the less-used characters a bit more tools to work with. Now, content creators are starting to unlock the potential of these buffed characters. One of these combo video creators is none other than Final Showdown, who’s discovered a lot of the tech for Dragon Ball FighterZ. His latest videos cover two of the characters affected by the patch: Teen Gohan and Piccolo.

For Teen Gohan, the patch has basically made some harder-to-do combos much easier. This includes a couple of loops that used to be a bit impractical, that are now much easier to pull off in real matches.

His video for Piccolo is much shorter, simply focusing on his orbs, which received more hit stun post patch. This makes combos out of the orbs much easier.

Cooperation Cup returns for its 17th installment of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike action on January 5 to 6, 2019

If there’s one thing that the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike faithful look forward to every year, it’s none other than the Cooperation Cup – the yearly team tournament featuring the game’s best players. Now, we know when the next installment of this legendary tournament will take place!

During the 3rd MANIAX Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike tournament this past Sunday, it was announced that the 17th Cooperation Cup will take place from January 5 to 6, 2019. As with the previous event, next year’s Coop Cup will take place at the Hulic Hall in Asakusabashi.

In addition to the main tournament, the event also has a Pre-Coop Cup 5-on-5 tournament, featuring teams of players playing only one specific character.

Dragon Ball FighterZ roundup: Explore some of the new combos and tech from base Goku, base Vegeta, & others

A new patch has arrived for Dragon Ball FighterZ. Alongside the new base forms for Goku and Vegeta, it’s also added a number of changes to the existing cast, opening up more combo routes and changing up old ones. As such, a number of folks are now working at figuring these new combos out.

First up, we have Final Showdown, one of the more influential combo video makers for the game, responsible for the discovery of a number of loops and combos used competitively. In the video below, he demonstrates some combos that base form Goku can do in Dragon Ball FighterZ. While he describes these as “day one combos”, there are already a number of interesting and likely important combos, including a few loops that we’re likely to see a lot of in competitive play.

As a bonus, he’s also uploaded a couple of follow ups to his Vegito combo video, extending the damage off his bread-and-butter combos even further. Take note, however, that these were done before the patch, so we might see even higher damage in the future.

Next up we have rooflemonger, who tackles base form Vegeta, focusing specifically on his corner loop.

We have even more base form Vegeta with this video from Sikshot Gaming, demonstrating how to keep up pressure with him on a blocking opponent.

TaihoT3 on the other hand showcases a touch-of-death combo for base form Vegeta (with help from Fat Buu and Goku).

One of the characters who’s been buffed in this balance patch is Frieza, who can now perform a reverse beat (H to M to L) chain. This has given him new combos, including a corner loop, as demonstrated by KH_Black on Twitter.

For a closer look at how Golder Frieza has changed, Cattokye has posted this comparison of his corner combos before and after the patch.

In addition to this, they also demonstrate how the faster activation of Golden Frieza allows it to be used a punish on block.

Of course, this is bound to be just the beginning of all these new combos and tech for the game’s new patch. Keep locked on to Shoryuken for more Dragon Ball FighterZ news and content.

History Behind the Warrior looks at why The Walking Dead’s Negan is coming to Tekken 7

At Evo 2018 last weekend, one of the most surprising announcements was that Negan from The Walking Dead would be coming to Tekken 7 as a DLC guest character. Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character from the hit AMC TV series (based on the comic book of the same name) was coming to the game came pretty much out of left field and had more than a few people wondering: why?

One of those is History Behind the Warrior who, in a new video, does their best to figure out why Negan is coming to Tekken 7. As part of this exploration, History Behind the Warrior dives into certain details behind the creation of The Walking Dead TV series, including the people involved. The video below tries its best to chart The Walking Dead TV series’ successful start and its eventual decline (including some high profile cast and crew departures), and how that may lead into this new cross-marketing promotion that AMC is trying with Bandai Namco.

Negan is planned to arrive in Tekken 7 on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One as part of its second season pass.
