Locke Cole from Final Fantasy VI is Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s second DLC character

Square Enix has revealed the identity of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT‘s second DLC character! From the SNES classic Final Fantasy VI (or Final Fantasy III as it was originally labeled as in the USA) we have none other than the “treasure hunter” Locke Cole.

Locke — a treasure hunter, who definitely isn’t a thief — was shown off in a trailer as part of Square Enix’s recent live stream. For those who aren’t familiar with Final Fantasy VI, Locke is one of the first characters players get to use (unlike later titles in the series, FFVI doesn’t really have a central “main character” per se), and helps start off the events of the game when he’s recruited to rescue Terra during the game’s opening mission.

In addition to the trailer, Square Enix also detailed Locke’s alternate costumes and weapons. You can check these out, alongside some new artwork from legendary artist Yoshitaka Amano, in the gallery below.

With the reveal of Locke, we now have only 4 remaining DLC characters. The hints that Square Enix have given about their identities are as follows.

  • New female character
  • New male character
  • Female character who previously appeared in Dissidia Final Fantasy series
  • New male character

All of these characters will be from the latter half of the Final Fantasy series.

Locke is set to arrive on Dissidia Final Fantasy for arcades on May 17, followed by Dissidia Final Fantasy NT on PlayStation 4 in June.

Back in April, Nicalis released the opening animation for their indie crossover fighter Blade Strangers. However, it turns out that this wasn’t the complete opening animation for the game.

Gundam AGE-1 Full Glansa and Montero revealed for Gundam Extreme Vs. 2; Plus Coin, VS. Mobile, and EX Burst detailed

Some new details have surfaced for Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. 2 via a booklet from the game’s recent location test. Revealed were a couple of new mobile suits, as well as details of the EX Burst system.

Twitter user UMR has shared some photos of the booklet which you can see below.

The two revealed mobile suits were the AGE-1G Gundam AGE-1 Full Glansa from Mobile Suite Gundam AGE, and the MSAM-YM03 Montero from Gundam Reconguista in G. These will be joining the existing roster, which includes the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos, TBG-11B Try Burning Gundam, and GF13-006NA Gundam Maxter.

In addition to this, the booklet also detailed the changes to the game’s “VS. Mobile” mode as well as the workings of the “EX Burst” mode. With the former has been completely revamped with medals acquired through gameplay now being used for scratch tickets for a chance at scoring extra mobile suits.

EX Burst mode has 5 different kinds of awakenings, these are:

  • M-Burst: Enhances mobility and performance.
  • L- Burst: Refills an ally’s ammo and boost recovery effects, also fills up EX Gauge.
  • F-Burst: Enhances close-ranged attacks, enables guard breaks.
  • E-Burst: Avoids critical situations, requires only half an EX Gauge.
  • S-Burst: Enables cancelling of shooting attacks, decreases reload time, and increases meter build.

For beginners, the game will has a Plus Coin mode. Here beginners can insert two credits in advance to play a minimum of three games. It basically allows beginners more time on a cabinet than normal.

Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. 2 is set to launch in Japanese arcades sometime next year.

Deleted tweet hints that Bandai Namco may be involved in the development of Super Smash Bros. for Switch

Nintendo and Bandai Namco seem to have a very close relationship nowadays. The latter has been involved with a number of the Big N’s games, specifically Pokkén Tournament and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS. Now, it seems that Bandai Namco may once again be involved with Smash.

Recently, Tiago Sonobe, a former developer at Bandai Namco, tweeted that the new Super Smash Bros. for the Switch would be using an engine that he developed. In addition to this, however, he stated that he left the company before production of the game began.

The plot thickens though, when you consider that based on his LinkedIn profile, Sonobe is now an engineer at Nintendo. Also both the tweet and Sonobe’s Twitter account have now been deleted. Fortunately for us, some people — such as Twitter user IceDoesn’tHelp — were able to capture a screenshot of the tweet.

Neither Nintendo nor Bandai Namco have officially commented on this as of this time. That said, the latter working on the new Super Smash Bros. game for the Switch wouldn’t be unprecedented, considering that they did the same for the game’s previous iteration.

SNK’s new NEO GEO Mini is both a miniature arcade cabinet and miniature console

Some time back, we reported on SNK’s plans to enter into the mini console market, following in the footsteps of Nintendo and Sega. Now, the company has revealed their entry into this segment: the NEO GEO Mini.

As with Nintendo’s offerings, as well as the upcoming Sega Mega Drive Mini, SNK’s NEO GEO Mini is a miniaturized version of their classic hardware. However, unlike the other two, the NEO GEO Mini doesn’t just copy the original’s look onto a miniaturized shell. Rather, SNK instead opted to miniaturize an entire arcade cabinet.

Specifically, the NEO GEO Mini copies the look of SNK’s Neo Candy Mini SC19 candy cabinet. While the mini console connects to a TV via HDMI and features two controllers, players can also opt to play via the built in 3.5 inch screen, and miniature arcade control panel.

The NEO GEO Mini will come in two versions. The one for the Japanese and Asian markets will feature colors based on the original Neo Candy Mini SC19. Meanwhile, the “international” version will instead use a more muted color palette, and slightly different mini arcade panel to bring it closer to the look of the original AES console.

As for the games, the NEO GEO Mini is set to launch with 40 classic titles. No word as of yet has been given on exactly what titles will be included, however the officially released photos hint at a number of classic fighting games from The King of FightersSamurai Shodown, and Fatal Fury franchises, alongside other classics such as Metal Slug.

No release date as of yet has been given by SNK for the NEO GEO Mini. In the meantime, check out these promotional photos of the mini console.

Capcom details the Training and Versus modes in the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection

The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, Capcom’s 30th birthday present for their flagship fighting franchise, is almost here. With the game hitting soon, the company has released a few more details on the games’ training and versus modes.

In a new post over on Capcom-Unity, the nitty-gritty of the Collection’s Training and Versus modes are laid out. One interesting thing with the latter is that Versus mode encompasses all titles at once in one mode; selecting which game to play is simply just another step in the setup process.

Speaking of stages, each stage will now detail which characters debuted in said stage when being selected.

As for training mode, this will apparently be available for the four games that will have online play – Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II: Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. The training modes for these games will come with all the bells and whistles you’d expect such as dummy control, damage display, and input display.

Unfortunately, it seems that no such mode will be available for the games not also available to play online. The new modes are late additions to the title, and will be provided for download via a day one patch.

The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection hits PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch on May 29.
