Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s servers will be down for maintenance today; Blanka & possible bug fixes to be added

Alongside Blanka’s rightful return to the game’s cast, today’s update for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will bring with it the expected bout of server maintenance.

As shared by the official Street Fighter V server Twitter account, the maintenance will start at 11:00 AM Pacific Time (2:00 PM Eastern) and run until 5:00 PM Pacific (8:00 PM Eastern).

We can also expect some gameplay fixes along with Blanka, as promised by Capcom — though not specifically for today.

As with any maintenance period for Street Fighter V, players will still be able to play the game offline — but players will not be able to earn any Fight Money during the maintenance period. nor (presumably) any Extra Battle mode rewards.

Here’s Blanka’s official animated “trading card” for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

One of the things Capcom has been doing for Street Fighter V‘s characters is releasing animated “trading cards” for them as they hit the game. Now, with Blanka set to hit the game on Tuesday, the “Warrior of the Amazon” is the next character to receive this treatment.

As with all the previous cards, Blanka’s plays a short clip of him in action. In addition to this, it also gives some of his in game stats, as well as some bits of trivia (such as him currently being unemployed).

SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo breaks down Mitsurugi

Mitsurugi is one of the most iconic characters of the SoulCalibur franchise. Appearing in every single installment of the series, he’s the closest that the series has to a counterpart to Street Fighter‘s Ryu.

In their latest video for SoulCalibur VI, Bandai Namco shines a spotlight on Mitsurugi. Specifically, producer Motohiro Okubo talks about the character, and shares his thoughts on his design, and how he represents the series.

SoulCalibur VI is set to launch in 2018 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Echo Fox takes a closer look at the unique love story of Momochi and Chocoblanka

The story of the romance between Yusuke Momochi and Yuko “Chocoblanka” Kusachi is seemingly a once-in-a-lifetime thing. The couple are in the unique — and beautiful — situation where fighting games not only brought them together, but they’re also an important part of their professional lives.

In a recent video (released for Valentine’s Day) team Echo Fox focuses on the relationship between these two. The video below strives to give new insight into how their relationship started, and how it continues to thrive now that they’re married — thanks in part, of course, to their shared love of fighting games.

VesperArcade breaks down footage of Blanka before he hits Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

With Blanka hitting Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition in less than a week, players are looking to learn as much as they can about him before his arrival. To help these players out, VesperArcade has naturally provided a pre-release breakdown of the character. This video below follows up on his previous breakdown of Blanka’s reveal trailer. This time however, he takes a closer look at Blanka’s moves. This includes the frame data for these moves, based on some of the footage we’ve already seen of him — including that from the recent WSO showcase of the character.

In particular, he points out specials such as his Backstep Roll (or Rainbow Roll, as it’s sometimes called), that seem to be a good tool for the character. Not only does it retain its ability to cross up (as seen in previous games), it’s also plus on block, and can lead to combos on hit.

Meanwhile, he also discusses how Blanka’s medium, or forward kick, is a pretty good button. The crouching version is both plus five on hit and special cancelable.  Meanwhile, the jumping version can cross Blanka’s opponents up.

Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, & Switch this Spring, pre-orders now open

Shaq Fu has long been considered one of the worst fighting games ever made; so naturally, there had to be a sequel. First announced by the man himself — former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal — at the 2015 Game Awards, it seems that the sequel Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn finally has a release window.

A new trailer for the game has recently been released that provides information on both the game’s release window and the systems that it’ll be coming out for. Those looking forward to the sequel to one of the most legendarily-bad fighters ever made (as well as those who actually backed it on Indiegogo) can expect Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn this Spring. The game itself is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

The latest Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-ON trailers showcase Saten & Uiharu, and their virtuaroids, the Apharmd S & Grys-Vok

With their crossover mecha fighting game Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-ON launching in Japan today, Sega is continuing to drop new trailers for the game. The latest trailers feature the duo of Saten Ruiko and Uiharu Kazari, and their respective virtuaroids.

In their home series, both Saten and Uiharu are friends of secondary female protagonist Mikoto Misaka. This is reflected in game by them both being part of the latter’s “Judge Igniters” team, with “Judge Igniters” versions of classic Virtual-ON virtuaroids. In this case, Saten pilots the RVR-33/VSL Apharmd S “Judge Igniters,” which once again is the long-range specialist of the Apharmd series.

Uiharu, on the other hand, pilots the SAV-326-D/9/VSL Grys-Vok “Judge Igniters.” The Grys-Vok seems to be even more specialized towards long-range combat than even Saten’s Apharmd S.

Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-ON is now available for purchase for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in Japan.

The King of Fighters 2002 for PC is currently free on GOG.com

Here’s some great news for fans of both The King of Fighters, and free games. The King of Fighters 2002 is currently available for free on GOG as part of their Chinese New Year giveaway. Among the various King of Fighters titles, KOF2002 is considered to be one of the best iterations ever released. Certainly the best from the “Eolith Era,” when said developer took over development duties from a then-faltering SNK.

Take note that this is just the original The King of Fighters 2002 and not the updated KOF 2002: Ultimate Match, does not feature online play, and it reported to have controller mapping issues. That said, it’s still a great deal considering that it’s free — at least until GOG’s Chinese New Year giveaway ends.

Nightmare|Gura showcases the “secrets” to playing Leo, Lili, and Kazumi in Tekken 7

One of the standout Tekken 7 players at Evo Japan last month was Team Nightmare’s Gura, who made it to top 8. The Korean player has made a name for himself in Tekken 7 playing Leo, Lili, Kazumi, and Geese Howard.

Now, Gura has released a series of videos where he “leaks the secrets” of some of these characters. Specifically, the videos below go over playing Leo, Lili, and Kazumi — no guide for Geese yet.

Take note that the guides below are in Korean, but with English captions thanks to translator suoder.

Gura himself constantly streams and creates content for Tekken 7, so interested viewers should check out both his Twitch and YouTube channels.

New Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-ON trailer introduces Lessar and RVR-42/VSL Cypher

Just a couple of days from its release date in Japan, Sega has dropped a new trailer for their crossover mecha fighter Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-ON. This new trailer introduces Lessar and the RVR-42/VSL Cypher virtuaroid.

Originally an opponent of main protagonist Touma, the sultry seductress Lessar eventually becomes a valued ally, helping him in his dealings with magic. The RVR-42/VSL Cyper, on the other hand, is an evolution of the original Cyper — the second-generation descendant of the Viper II line from the original Virtual-ON. The VSL version in this game retains the original’s jet fighter transformation that it can use to attack opponents.

Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-ON launches on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in Japan on February 15. For interested players, a demo is currently available for download on the PlayStation Network.
