Dragon Ball FighterZ open beta can now be downloaded in Europe and Australia [UPDATED]

With Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s open beta taking place this weekend, many players are eagerly looking forward to the beta client becoming available for download. This is so that they can download it early, and not waste any time downloading it when the beta is live – time they can spend playing it instead, of course!

Well, for those in Europe and Australia, the wait is now over as the Dragon Ball FighterZ open beta client is now available for download on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This includes both the pre-order exclusive early access client, and the regular client for those who still haven’t pre-ordered.

The filesize for the beta client is actually quite small – only 2.4 Gigabytes – which means players wont really waste much time downloading it (or freeing up hard drive space). Players on Xbox One can download it here, while those on PlayStation 4 can do so here.

As for players in other regions, the beta clients are as of yet unavailable for download. Stay locked on to Shoryuken for news on when they become available.

[UPDATE: It seems to be rolling out to North America as well in a fairly timely fashion; it is confirmed to be currently available to download from the PS Store in Canada — at least for early-access users, and from the console interface — it doesn’t appear on the web browser-based store for Canada or USA yet. Expect to see it in your region soon!]

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s pre-launch stream hints at future DLC characters

Square Enix held one last pre-launch stream for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT just before its Japanese release today. While the stream covered a lot of topics, the most interesting has to be the hints regarding future DLC characters for the game.

While no names were named, Square Enix did give out descriptions for the 6 upcoming DLC characters for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. This included which half of the numbered Final Fantasy series they’re from.

  • New male character (from new half)
  • New male character (from old half)
  • New female character (from new half)
  • New male character (from new half)
  • Returning female character who previously appeared in a Dissidia Final Fantasy game (from new half)
  • New male character (from new half)

Now if these hints aren’t enough, in a previous interview, they also stated that characters who didn’t get much screen or story time would likely have their interactions fleshed out in future DLC. So looking out for which characters fit the bill in the story mode could serve to give more hints as to who the DLC characters will be.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT for PlayStation 4 launched in Japan on January 11. It will hit the rest of the world on January 30.

Ichiro Hazama and Takeo Kujiraoka talk about Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s story and setting

This week’s issue of Famitsu has an interview with Dissidia Final Fantasy NT producer Ichiro Hazama and director Takeo Kujiraoka. In the interview, they discuss certain things about the setting and story of the game, including how it relates to the arcade version and the previous games.

Regarding the story itself, the draft was written by Kazuhige Nojima based on a concepts by Saori Itamuro. Fans should recognize the former as the scenario writer for Final Fantasy VIIVIII, and IX, while the latter was the lead scenario designer for Final Fantasy XV as well as the RPG planner for the original Dissidia games on PSP.

The story and setting themselves are meant to help explain both the reason for the conflict taking place in the game’s world, and why they are now battling it out in teams of three.

In addition to this, they’ve confirmed that Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is both a sequel to the original PSP games, as well as a prequel to the arcade version. As such, the ending for the game sets up the arcade game — the arcade version’s opening sequence will supposedly make more sense once you’ve seen the ending of NT.

Now, with such a large cast of characters, some of them will receive less focus than others. They’ve confirmed in the interview that some of this is will be rectified in future DLC for the game.

Finally, in regards to updates for the game, they’ve confirmed that the arcade version will be getting updates first before NT on the PlayStation 4.

This is just part of the interview; Siliconera has a few more translated notes from it.

NuckleDu’s contract with Team Liquid has expired, renewal still up in the air

At last year’s Capcom Cup, one player who was conspicuous by his absence was 2016 champion Du “NuckleDu” Dang. While he had earned an automatic qualification spot thanks to winning the previous Capcom Cup, he confirmed that he would not be attending a few weeks before the event, due to personal reasons.

Now, it seems that NuckleDu is going through yet another major change. This time, the 21-year-old player confirmed that his contract with Team Liquid has expired. While he’s still looking into renewing his contract, he also states that he’s open to new opportunities.

NuckleDu has been part of Team Liquid since 2015. The relationship paid off at Capcom Cup 2016 when Du won the championship, becoming the first American to do so in the process.

With how well he’s performed in recent years, it’s hard to see any downsides to their relationship. At this same time, this opens the door for other teams to try to pick up one of the fastest rising stars of the fighting game community.

Hit time-skips his way into action in his character trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ

Following up on the trailer for Goku Black, Bandai Namco has released the trailer for another character revealed in V-Jump. This time, we have Universe 6’s appropriately-named top hitman, Hit.

Hit’s trailer gives us a small taste of what he can do in the game, showing off glimpses of his Time Skip counters. With his unique moveset, Hit is looking to be one of the more interesting characters in Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Dragon Ball FighterZ hits (pun intended) PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in North America and Europe on January 26, followed by Japan on February 1. Prior to this, there is an open beta, sans Hit, this weekend from January 14 to 15.

Meanwhile, for more information on Hit, check out this breakdown by Maximilian.

The Efreet and Pixie Gundam are coming to Gundam Versus in Japan next month

Gundam Versus‘ roster of playable mobile suits continues to grow with each passing month. The next batch of DLC mobile suits coming to the game in Japan are the MS-08TX Efreet and RX-78XX Pixie Gundam.

The MS-08TX Efreet is a Zeon mobile suit that first appeared in the game Mobile Suit Gundam: Cross Dimension 0079 for the Super Famicom (Super NES). The unit is a limited production mobile suit designed for close combat, and is armed with a set of melee weapons and smoke generators that allow it to close the distance on its enemies.

The RX-79XX Pixie Gundam also hails from the same game. This mobile suit is significantly lighter than the original RX-78-2 it’s derived from, and is also armed for close combat, bringing with it a short beam dagger and submachine guns.

Both of these suits are set to hit Gundam Versus in Japan in February.

Here’s how to redeem your early access to the beta if you’ve pre-ordered Dragon Ball FighterZ in the EU

While the upcoming open beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ starts on January 14, those who pre-ordered will be able to play the game a day early.

For those players in the EU who have pre-ordered the game, Bandai Namco Europe recently sent out a reminder on Twitter for them to redeem their codes, so that they can gain early access.

Players who pre-ordered should go to this site. Here, they can enter their details, as well as the retailer code that should have come with their pre-order. Once this is done, they then need to link their PSN or Xbox Live accounts, again with their retailer code. This should allow them redeem their early access into the beta.

Take note that this is for European players only. Players in North America who pre-ordered the game digitally can simply download the client by searching for “Dragon Ball FighterZ Open Beta Early Access” on either the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live.

The Dragon Ball FighterZ open beta will have a practice mode

When Dragon Ball FighterZ had its first closed beta last September, it focused mainly on getting players matched up with each other. As such, it didn’t really have any safe place for players to try out characters, moves, and combos. With the new beta however, it seems that this won’t be the case.

In a recent Tweet, Bandai Namco South East Asia confirmed that the mode exists in Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s open beta.

With this, Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s beta follows in the footsteps of other fighting game betas such as those for Fighting Layer EX, Street Fighter V, and of course, Skullgirls: 2nd Encore‘s “endless beta” that also feature a practice mode.

Aside from helping test the game’s online play, betas such as that for Dragon Ball FighterZ, also allows players to learn more about how the game plays, in preparation for playing the full game on launch. As such, adding in a training mode is a great move by any company that’s beta testing their fighting games. [It is possible that “Practice (Battle Tutorial)” refers specifically to more of a trial mode than an open training mode, but which of the two are in the open beta has not yet been clarified. – Editor]

Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s open beta runs from January 14 to 15, with pre-orders getting early access on January 13. The game itself launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 26 in the West, and February 1 in Japan.

Players and creators get together for this “community combo video” for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Usually, when we feature combo videos, these are the work of one singular creator; this new combo video for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite however isn’t the work on one person alone. Rather, it’s the result of a number of creators banding together to create one massive combo video.

The combo video below isn’t the first community combo video complied by Jako Man. Prior to this, he’s done similar projects for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. This video represents his first one for the new game.

Check out this new video below. We’ve also compiled a list of all the creators after the video.
