Phantom Breaker spin-off game, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive, coming to Switch

The Nintendo Switch is slowly but surely building a library of fighting game and fighting game-related titles. The latest of these is 5pb’s fighting game and beat ’em up hybrid Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive.

Originally released for PlayStation 4 back in July of 2015, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive, co-developed by MAGES., is the latest update to Phantom Breakers‘s spin-off “Battle Grounds” series. The game uses a multi-plane system (first pioneered by Treasure for Yu Yu Hakusho – Makyou Toitsusen  and Guardian Heroes) to allow for up to four players to fight against each other, or together against waves of foes in beat ’em up fashion, while still retaining fighting game-style controls.

Bandai Namco to show off Dragon Ball FighterZ trailer at Jump Festa 2018

Bandai Namco Games will be one of the video game companies that will be in attendance at Jump Festa 2017. With this being the Shonen Jump event, it should be no surprise then that they’ll be bringing Dragon Ball FighterZ with them.

This news isn’t just for those attending the event. As part of bringing the game there, Bandai Namco has confirmed that they will be showing off a brand new trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ at Jump Festa.

Jump Festa 2017 takes place on December 16 to 17, 2017, right in the middle of the month when Bandai Namco tends to reveal new characters. With this in mind, it’s likely that we’ll get new character reveals with this trailer.

In addition to the trailer, Bandai Namco will also be holding a pre-release tournament for Dragon Ball FighterZ on the second day of Jump Festa.

Dragon Ball FighterZ launches on PlayStation 4, PC, and XBox One on January 26 in most of the world, followed by February 1 in Japan.

Street Fighter X Transformers promotional video pays homage to Super Street Fighter II Turbo

As previously reported, Takara Tomy and Capcom have partnered for a special range of Street Fighter X Transformers toys. The line dresses up certain iconic Transformers as Street Fighter characters.

Now, Takara Tomy has has released a new video promoting the toy line; the video pays homage to Street Fighter II — or more specifically,its Super Street Fighter II Turbo update. It takes both Super Turbo’s iconic intro while also adding in some match footage, and using graphics that match the game’s pre-fight screen.

Newegg offering free copies of Tekken 7 for PlayStation 4 with every arcade stick purchase

For some players, purchasing an arcade stick may be hard to justify, if they don’t have enough games in their library to use it. A new deal from Newegg, however, makes the decision to purchase one a bit easier: by giving away a free game. For a limited time, every purchase of an arcade stick for the PlayStation 4 at Newegg will come with a free copy of Tekken 7 (for that console, naturally).

This offer applies to all PlayStation 4 arcade sticks carried by Newegg, ranging from the inexpensive Qanba Drone to high-end sticks such as the Razer Panthera (Street Fighter V edition), MadCatz Tournament Edition 2+, Qanba Dragon, and Hori RAP Premium VLX. With Tekken 7 still retailing at around the $50 range, this equals a decent amount of savings, especially when paired with some of the lower-priced arcade sticks.

For those interesting in taking advantage of this offer, take note that this is for a limited time only. While Newegg hasn’t stated when the offer will expire, it’ll likely only run while their supplies of Tekken 7 last.

See the Gundam AGE-2 and Mudrock Gundam in action in these latest Gundam Versus DLC trailers

Gundam Versus will be getting a number of new DLC mobile suits  this month. In addition to the GM Sniper II and Aegis Gundam, coming in a couple of weeks, the game will also be getting 2 new suits next week.

Hailing from the Level-5 co-produced series Mobile Suit Gundam AGE, the AGE-2 Gundam AGE-2 comes to battle piloted by second generation pilot Asemu Asuno. It fights by switching between different AGE-2 variants, such as the “Normal” and “Double Bullet”.

The RX-78-6 Mudrock Gundam on the other hand is an original design variation by original mecha designer Kunio Okawara, that was later revamped for the PlayStation 2 game Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front. Piloted by Agar, this suit expands on the armament of the original RX-78-2 Gundam, adding a pair of 300mm cannons and another pair of grenade launchers, at the cost of some mobility.

Both these mobile suits will be available for Gundam Versus in Japan on December 5 for ¥602 each (plus tax).

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will be at Jump Festa 2017 with a new trailer, playable demo

The PlayStation Experience isn’t the only big gaming event this December. Taking place the week after is Jump Festa 2017. While initially focused on anime and manga, Jump Festa has seen increased participation by video game companies in recent years.

This year, Square Enix will be attendance and they will be bringing a number of their upcoming titles to the event, one of which is Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

Square Enix will be dropping a new trailer for the game at Jump Festa. This new trailer will likely be shown during their stage demo for the game. In addition to this however, the game itself will also be playable at the show floor.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT launches on PlayStation 4 in Japan on January 11, followed by North America and Europe on January 30.

Dragon Ball FighterZ pre-orders for PC are discounted at GamersGate

Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball FighterZ is less than two months away from release. For anyone who’s interested on picking the game up on PC, but has yet to pre-order, now may be a great time to do so. Pre-orders for the PC version of Dragon Ball FighterZ on Steam are currently subject to an 18% discount over at GamersGate. This applies to all three packages for the game.

The base game itself can be pre-ordered for only only $49.19. Meanwhile, the “FighterZ Edition” — which includes the “FighterZ Pass” for the DLC characters — goes for only $77.88. Finally, the complete “Ultimate Edition” which comes with both the “FighterZ Pass” and even more additional content, can be pre-ordered for only $90.18.

New Dissidia Final Fantasy NT trailer focuses on Materia and Spiritus

Square Enix has released a brand new trailer for their upcoming Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. The trailer this time focuses on the gods, Materia and Spiritus, who drive the game’s plot.

These two gods are responsible for summoning the Final Fantasy heroes and villains we see in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT (much like Cosmos and Chaos were in previous Dissidia titles). Materia is the “Sublime Goddess of Protection,” born from the will of Cosmos from the previous games. Meanwhile, the will of Chaos was reborn as Spiritus the “Savage God of Destruction,” who is the god of magic in the reborn world.

A new The King of Fighters manga is coming to Japan in January

While SNK has done a great job putting out a number of supplemental media — such as comics and animation — for The King of Fighters franchise, most of these have come from and are focused towards the Chinese market. That’s about to change however, as a new The King of Fighters manga is set to debut early next year in Japan.

The new manga, called The King of Fighters ~ A New Beginning is set to make its debut in the January 1 issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine. No details on what the plot of the manga will be about, however the released art seems to indicate that it somehow ties into or is based on the events of The King of Fighters XIV.

ARMS version 4.1 update adds Springtron

ARMS has just received a new, incremental update to version 4.1. Now, while these incremental updates tend to just adjust the balance and fix bugs, this one adds something more — a new fighter.

As part of its version 4.1 update, ARMS players can now play as the secret boss character Springtron. The character acts as a sort of alternate version of Spring Man. In fact, Springtron shares ARMS unlocks with Spring Man as well.

In addition to Springtron, the update also adds Chinese language support, and fixes a few bugs. It also makes a few balance adjustments to the rest of the cast. You can check all of these out below.

  • The mysterious new fighter “Springtron” can now be selected.
    • His initial ARMS are the same as Spring Man.
    • When Spring Man unlocks new ARMS Springtron will also have access to them.

    • Added badges that are unlocked by fulfilling certain conditions on stages with environmental gimmicks.
    • And more!
  • Added support for traditional and simplified Chinese. You can switch your language in system settings.

  • Fixed issue in Ranked Match where certain fighters’ voices could be heard prior to the start of the match.
