Take a Look Back at The King of Fighters XIII with These Character Compilations

While the bulk of both the King of Fighters community and the FGC at large’s attention is on The King of Fighters XIV right now, it’s nice to occasionally look back at the last generation. The current title’s predecessor, The King of Fighters XIII, brought both tight controls and 2D sprites to their peak for the series, with the sprites in particular being their last hurrah before the current standard of 3D models reached the KOF franchise.

From this era past, some haven’t forgotten about all the great play and players of its time: 8Sin-Am in particular has begun digging through his old footage and uploading compilations to his channel, featuring specific characters. Here is a compilation for Koukou’s EX Iori:

There are of course other compilations, featuring equally masterful play. A couple more are linked below, and you can find even more on 8Sin-Am’s channel.

cR|SonicFox Earns Guinness Book World Record for His Success in Injustice

There isn’t much doubt in the fighting game community on the skill of the enthusiastically-succesful Dominique ‘SonicFox’ Mclean. There is of course the occasional heckler–no great player goes without some antagonistic attention–but all-in-all his talent is acknowledged. This acknowledgement extends past the community once again, as the Guinness Book of World Records has granted SonicFox a title for Most Injustice Tournament Victories: thirteen, as of July 4th this year.

sonicfox_guinness

This isn’t Sonic’s first Guinness entry; he also earned a record for first Mortal Kombat X tournament won, which came along with his victory in the ESL Fatal 8 Exhibition for the game. While SonicFox has dominated both headlines and games since he landed on the scene, only time will tell if he will continually blaze a trail through the spotlight, especially with Injustice 2 coming soon. One thing is certain: he has been dubbed “Officially Amazing,” and that’s a level of prestige that he can be proud of no matter what happens from here on out.

Famitsu Interview with Yoshinori Ono Suggests Akuma’s Street Fighter V Reveal Was Not What It Seemed

It’s hard to not have been swept up in the massive hype for the Akuma trailer after the recent Red Bull Battle Grounds tournament. Closing out one of the most hyped-up Street Fighter V events of the year, it felt pretty certain from the brief teaser that Akuma was going to be coming to the Street Fighter V roster, and would be playable at the PlayStation Experience–on top of some more announcements said to be in the works for the Capcom Pro Tour finale.

However, all may not be as expected. In an interview with Famitsu–translated to English by EventHubs’ Nicholas “MajinTenshinhan” Taylor–Street Fighter V producer Yoshinori Ono offered some “clarification”:

Ono: We actually never said that a new character is coming at all. We just said that people would be able to experience what we showed in that video, that’s all, haha.
Famitsu: That’s what it meant?! Well then, at least we can confirm that there’s something to personally experience at the PSX?
Ono: Yes. That’s undeniable. But it’s going to be something that betrays everyone’s expectations, in a good way, I think.
Famitsu: Betrays everyone’s expectations?!
Ono: A lot of things have been leaked in the past, but we’ve had very strict regulations on this in particular, so please look forward to hearing what we have to announce.

You can read the rest of the Eventhubs translation here, or the Japanese Famitsu original interview here–but for the moment we’re left uncertain what to think about the trailer and what Ono has told us so far… Maybe a new game mode in which Akuma appears, but is not playable himself? Or maybe just “Shin” Akuma, not regular Akuma…? What exactly the teaser trailer was indeed teasing remains open to speculation until December 3rd at Capcom Cup 2016.

Street Fighter V’s Capcom Pro Tour DLC Has Contributed Over $100,000 to Capcom Cup’s Prize Pot

Over the course of the past year, Capcom has been steadily doling out DLC for their latest fighter. Between costumes, stages, and colors–not to mention the new characters–there was a lot to maintain player interest. Particularly, 30% of the proceeds from the Capcom Pro Tour downloadable content purchases are going directly into the pot for Capcom Cup, which has so far received a $100,000 bonus from those DLC purchases alone, pushing it from the base $250,000 to over $350,000.

Since this DLC isn’t going to stay permanently, however; Capcom is urging players one last time to pick up some of Street Fighter V’s downloadable costumes before they’re gone for good: As previously reported, both the Capcom Pro Tour content and the Halloween costumes will be no longer available after 8:59 PM PST, November 29, 2016. If you want to support the Capcom Cup and don’t already have these DLC skins, now is the time to act.

Hear Maximilian’s Take on the 5 Most Necessary Changes for Street Fighter V’s Future

Talk of Street Fighter V’s poor start never seems like it’s that far off. Such talk only became more unavoidable after news of the game’s struggling sales figures were announced, which is disheartening, to say the least. The neglect of the casual crowd left tangible scars on the title which persist despite the success of the Capcom Pro Tour.

In the face of all of this bad press for the game, fans have been revitalized by the mere hint of the longtime favorite boss, Akuma. This air of change means a potential second wind for the title, which Capcom is building up to be a longstanding platform for the future. This in mind, Maximilian attempts to tackle what he feels the 5 biggest potential changes that Capcom could make to turn SFV around for good.

Get the Edge on Your Competition by Studying Up on The King of Fighters XIV Frame Data

Frame data knowledge is some of the most important knowledge in any fighting game. It’s the difference between knowing when you can be punished, when you can’t, and how quickly you can attack. With the massive roster in The King of Fighters XIV, gathering these hidden numbers was quite the task. However, thanks to some very dedicated KOF players, an entire compilation of the frame data has been compiled.

The data is compiled on Orochinagi’s site here, with the specific players who gathered the info listed here, and is also contained in a handy smart phone app. For those unfamiliar, the frame data may be a bit intimidating. If you need a bit of help understanding the basics of frame data, feel free to brush up on this explanation here.
