Brush Up on Your Super Smash Bros. Melee Matchup Knowledge: Fox vs. Falcon, & More

Knowledge is power, when it comes to any fighting game. The better you know your character, and the better you know the match-up, the more likely you are to come out on top. It helps competitively, but it can also make spectating more enjoyable.

With this in mind, the folks over at SSBM Tutorials put together this detailed Fox vs. Falcon match-up video. This video covers a lot of Falcon’s options in neutral, as well as recovery and post-shield and pressure options. Study up so you can better handle any Falcons that come your way.

If you enjoyed this, SSBM Tutorials have other similar videos on their channel. There is a Falco vs. Marth guide, like the one above, but there are also more general guides about how to deal with specific characters like Shiek or Ice Climbers.

Gato Ray Showcases How Normal Moves Work vs. Crouching Characters in The King of Fighters XIV

There are a lot of things in fighting games that players will intuit, as opposed to actively thinking about; one of those things is using normal moves against crouching opponents. Whether it’s knowing if your normal will hit a crouching opponent or knowing whether it will make them stand up if they’re hit, it’s important information to have. To that end, we have here a compilation of all normal moves vs. crouching opponents and their hit effects, coming from Gato Ray.

Some of these cases of course changed with the latest patch as well, so a follow-up video was uploaded to cover all of the normals that have been changed in 1.03.

Weekend Steam Sales for Degicia Games’ Kohime Enbu and Blade Arcus from Shining: Battle Arena

Degicia Games has been pretty active about promoting their new game Koihime Enbu, adding a pot bonus to their tournament at this year’s CEOtaku and actively getting their latest fighter in front of potential players. Koihime Enbu and Blade Arcus are two of their main projects, with the latter still receiving support, despite being released in 2014.

For the weekend, both of these games are available at large discounts. Koihime Enbu is available for 50% off, making it available for a more reasonable $19.99. Blade Arcus is discounted 35%, bringing that price down to $19.49. Check out their sale trailer below.

These discounts are in addition to the stream we reported on, that was giving away copies of the game.

What’s New, Nakoruru? Take a Look at Her Post-Patch Capabilities in The King of Fighters XIV

Being one of the more talked-about characters in the game–due to some of the frustration players were feeling dealing with her–after the latest balance patch, attention was quickly drawn to the bird tamer, Nakoruru. With Nakoruru receiving some big changes in the 1.03 patch to King of Fighters XIV, Ra3bones has released a quick addendum to act as a supplement to his original Nakoruru guide, detailing the major tweaks to the character, what is now safe/unsafe, and so on.

KOF enthusiast Gato Ray also posted this video to his channel, going over exactly what it means for Mamahaha to have reduced projectile resistance.

Just prior to the patch, YouTuber laziefred uploaded a large guide detailing ways to deal with Nakoruru and her pesky bird. While elements have changed and may be easier to deal with now, this guide still has valuable information for dealing with the matchup.

King of Fighters XIV Version 1.03 English Patch Notes May Not Be Completely Accurate

As we reported yesterday, a large patch was released for The King of Fighters XIV, and we received a list of patch notes in English. Unfortunately, it seems as if the translation may not have been word-for-word. A little something here and there getting lost in the translation is nothing new, though it can be a bit frustrating when learning what has changed about your character. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s important to know about.

One sharp-eyed fan, Gato Ray, realized that not all the changes were properly translated. Here, he points out that the Japanese patch notes for Ryo state that his far standing heavy kick was changed, but the English notes list far light kick.

While the gist of most of these changes is probably relatively accurate, double-checking that your character’s listed changes match what is in your game would probably be a good idea.

FGC Team EVB Disbands, Unable to Generate Team Funding

The world of esports is a wild one, where it seems like anything can happen. It’s a world where branding means everything, and giants can appear overnight. Today, however, is a solemn reminder that a titan in any particular scene can vanish as quickly as it appeared.

Esports team EVB disbanded yesterday, with a heartfelt message on Twitter:

This funding, once dried up, forced the team to close up shop:

This feels like a large blow to the Mortal Kombat scene, as three prominent members of their community wore the EVB jersey. Ryan “Dragon” Walker, Bryant “KitanaPrime” Benzing, and Ryan “Big D” DeDomenico are all large faces in the MKX scene, who are now free agents after EVB’s collapse. The same of course is true for Street Fighter V player Chris Tatarian, as well as Smash Bros. for Wii U player Austin “Dath” Brown”. While the future is uncertain for these players, EVB leaves us with some last words of encouragement:

Enjoy These Stunning New Intro Animations Coming to Skullgirls 2nd Encore

As we reported a couple months back, Skullgirls is receiving one last patch. In this patch, brand new introduction animations are being added, thanks to Hidden Variable’s involvement with the Skullgirls mobile game. These intro animations are not completed yet–but they have been added in their current state to the Skullgirls Endless Beta on Steam.

Some of these animations are amazing, like Eliza’s Sekhmet intro, or Painwheel’s grappling-onto-the-screen intro. There are some that aren’t quite finished, of course, like Cerebella’s Circus ring drop, but Big Band’s intro animations really steal the show. His rocket intro is probably the best character intro I’ve ever seen, and he gets this in addition to a nod to everyone’s favorite SFIII: 3rd Strike detective.

It’s interesting to note that Big Band is the only character with four intro animations now. Not every character got new animations; though hopefully more will be added if Skullgirls Mobile is a success.

Take a Look at Some Luck-Based Elements in the Super Smash Bros. Series

Luck is one of the most universally unwanted aspects in a fighting game. Players like to feel like they have complete control over their character, especially in a high-stakes competitive setting. Even so, are all random events bad?

The folks over at My Smash Corner put together this video to delve into the details surrounding luck based elements in the Smash series. From elements like Peach’s Turnip Pull to tripping in Brawl, this video gets really deep into the subject. Check it out!

Team Critical Reaction Recruits Patrick “keninblack” Kelly, Their Third Skullgirls Player

In the late hours of last night, Critical Reaction had an announcement to make:

This makes the third top Skullgirls player they’ve added to their ranks. Patrick’s exploits at the most recent CEOtaku, which we detailed in our writeup, didn’t go unnoticed.  Kelly responded with appreciation for the opportunity.

The love was–of course–mutual between team members, with Jon “dekillsage” Coello congratulating him:

Patrick has the support of most of the community, in fact, inside and outside of the game. He has been starting up a comedy career along with his gaming, and community members regularly make efforts to attend his stand up shows.
