Between all of the Beta experiments that have been going on and the highly anticipated SG community focused CEOtaku tournament only days away, Skullgirls fans have had a lot to look forward to. Getting excited about their game inevitably leads content creators to make new tech videos or combo videos, and today we have the latter. While these combos are using some of the Fukua Beta changes–which may not end up being present in the final game–these are still really cool to see in action. This video features Filia taking advantage of the new move on Fukua as an assist.
Youtuber NanoNEVERMiND also made a complimentary video to this, featuring this time Fukua doing impressive combos using Filia as a supporting character.
CEOtaku is only a week away, and fans from a wide range of games are gearing up for a weekend overloaded with Anime games. One such game is Skullgirls, whose community just a year ago started finding its rhythm, tournament-wise. We briefly discussed it a few months ago, but the long and the short of it is that events like Combo Breaker 2015, NEC 2015, Winterbrawl X, and Northwest Majors VIII were Major events with a noticeable showing from Skullgirls players, and signs of a changing tide for the game’s competitive scene. One event that stood out among the most enjoyable of the year was actually CEOtaku 2015, which the entirety of the community has been gushing over since it happened. It’s no surprise that this year’s CEOtaku is bigger for the title than the last, and it of course goes without saying that the community’s excitement for the event is at a fever pitch with the tournament merely days away. The community’s dedication to CEOtaku can most easily be seen in the community wide movement to attend specific events over the course of the year, a list that CEOtaku appears on.
Here, we have a brief glance back at what transpired last year for CEOtaku by youtuber SkullgirlsTV:
This is all before getting into the $1000 pot bonus Skullgirls is getting, which just piles on the hype. The winner from last year, cR|dekillsage, is returning of course, but this time his team member cR|SonicFox is also making a showing. Earlier this year, these two had met at Combo Breaker in Winner’s and Grand Finals, with SonicFox edging out the win over his biggest Skullgirls rival. These two aren’t the only big names attending, with the runner up of last year, Keninblack, making a return appearance. Other strong players, such as LZ|Mr.Peck, a European SG player, KPB|McPeanuts, a consistently well-placing East Coast player, and Swiftfox-Dash, a long time player who has consistently made Top 3 at events he attends, should make for a highly competitive showing. That’s without mentioning all of the players who placed Top 8 or Top 16 at Combo Breaker 2016, such as RK|PME, Hirokuni, and Adevis, could easily make an upset in any bracket they end up in.
Skullgirls 2nd Encore will be played on the retail PS4 version, meaning that all the changes that have been going on in the Skullgirls Beta for the past two months are still not in the main game yet. There are still experiments and changes happening in that beta, so it should actually be a few months before that is ready for tournament play.
As far as the event itself goes, outside of just Skullgirls, it looks to be pretty exciting, with more entrants in more games than last year:
The event organizer, Jebailey, even recently announced that he would add a whopping $1000 pot bonus to Guilty Gear if they reached 200 entrants. Well, they did! They also reached 150 entrants in BlazBlue, netting that game a savory $500 pot bonus for their efforts. The total amount of money up for grabs in these tournaments is a little over $15,000 with over 400 competitors already participating. There is also a wonderful Artist Alley, and a vibrant Cosplay scene with a Cosplay Contest, meaning there’s something here for just about everyone.
With so much excitement behind The King of Fighters XIV, combined with the sheer size of its roster, it’s a bit dizzying attempting to stay updated on all things KOF. Despite the burden of keeping up, it is an absolute joy seeing the love for the game condensed into volumes of combo exhibitions. Below is one such compendium, by YouTuber COMBONAUTS, and it seeks to show off crazy conversions with situations you might not ever see in normal play.
Just saying “Fox” brings up a lot of emotion from Smash players. Being that Fox has enjoyed a long standing and current reign as a top tier character in Melee, he is very popular even in today’s Wii U Smash. Today, Smash player and YouTuber MrDanish ButterCookie took it upon himself to craft a very detailed guide on Fox’s options, how to deal with them, and what his strengths make Fox mains more likely to do. He even goes over the best stages to combat Fox on, and good Fox players to watch and be careful of.
Wrestling and the FGC have a peculiar relationship: wrestling games aren’t heavily featured at tournaments, but a large portion of the community has a lot of love for wrestling. We even have a few professional wrestlers in our community in Kenny Omega and Xavier Woods, making this connection even more pronounced.
Despite this connection, actual wrestling games themselves are hardly talked about. They aren’t traditional fighting games, but they do contain all the necessary elements of a fighting game. This more mainstream take on our favorite genre has a generally wider audience than most of our tournament games. The folks over at WhatCulture Wrestling have decided to compile their personal list of the 10 best wrestling games of all time; check it out in the video below.
Many combo videos tend to be aimed at only showing off high damage routes, flashy conversions, or simply solid confirms for experienced players. However, YouTube channel TrueUnderDogGaming has been compiling some King of Fighters XIV guides targeted at giving players the choice of a wide range of combos for different skill levels. There are basic combos here for short confirms, and then the video slowly build up to high-execution combos for more experienced players.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is a game that is very near and dear to many people’s hearts. It is creeping up on two whole decades since SFIII hit arcades, but the game still being played to this day. Not all of us were around to feel the full impact of this game, so it’s up to the older players to strike up future conversations about how deep this game is, for the newgeneration!
Bringing the joy of 3rd Strike to those new players, YouTuber RakuraiMedia1 created this painstakingly meticulous guide on how to play Yun. He goes over everything, breaking down meter gain, combos, confirms, kara-cancels, the strengths and weaknesses of Genei-Jin, and situations that Yun doesn’t want to be in. There is so much packed into 16 minutes, but it’s all worth watching. Even if you don’t play the game or intend to–or play the game, but don’t play Yun–this video is definitely worth the watch for the simple fact of how cleanly crafted and informative this guide is.
Crush Counters can completely change up the game. Scoring a counter hit, whether as a punish or simply a well-timed poke, can net huge advantages to those prepared to capitalize on them.
Juri main marlonlonmilk has been hard at work exploring these advantages for his character of choice, and shared them in this tutorial. He goes over cheeky setups, crossups, fake crossups, fake-fake crossups, and safe block pressure, as well as some good-old damaging combos off of a Crush Counter.

TSM|ZeRo, one of the biggest players in Smash Bros. for Wii U, has been finding constructive ways to occupy his time when he isn’t winning tournaments. Today, he turns his attention to everyone’s favorite Italian plumber, Mario.
