Help Seed Evo 2016’s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Bracket

In an effort to create the best brackets for fair–and hype–competition in this year’s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament at Evo, organizers have once again requested that the community submit a list of who they believe to be the best of the best at the game.

Obviously, the SRK rankings are an excellent way to get started when seeding for a competition like this, but feedback from the community will certainly ensure that the finalized brackets will make for the most exciting experience for viewers and competitors alike. According to Evo co-founder Tony Cannon, “The community for each game has a more balanced view of who the best players are, and relying on them to advise us on the best seeding for the tournament is consistent with the spirit of Evo.”

So, if you fancy yourself a Marvel mind and would like to submit such a list, feel free to drop your top 32 UMVC3 players in the comments below for organizers to see. Once the brackets are complete in early July, the community will once again be free to offer feedback on how to further improve them.

Get a Closer Look at Ibuki’s Story Mode Alternate Costume in Street Fighter V

Early last week, we got an accidental glimpse at Ibuki’s upcoming Story Mode alternate costume, but the footage of the outfit was admittedly blurry. At that time, we were able to discern that Ibuki’s secondary set of duds will include a white top of some variety, but there was little else to be seen in the tiny bit of even tinier footage.

Ibuki Alt2

At this weekend’s Street Fighter V Crash event, we got our first intentional look at the upcoming DLC character’s story mode alternate costume in the form of the image above. As you can see, this simple outfit is quite similar in style to Karin’s Story Mode getup.

Do you think this costume fits with Ibuki’s style? Let us know in the comments.

Capcom Bans Noel Brown from 2016 Pro Tour Events, Evo Stands Behind Decision

Earlier today, Capcom released an official statement surrounding the unacceptable events that transpired over the weekend at Illinois-based tournament, Combo Breaker. Regarding Noel Brown’s inappropriate actions, those behind the Capcom Pro Tour had this to say:

Over the past weekend, we were notified that an unfortunate case of sexual harassment occurred at Combo Breaker 2016, a Capcom Pro Tour Ranking Event, where a female attendee received unwarranted and unwanted contact from a male attendee, who is confirmed to be Noel Brown. This incident was also captured on camera during the live stream before the Street Fighter V Losers Finals match.

We have worked closely with the tournament organizer of Combo Breaker to gather all details surrounding the incident. We have found that the victim, who wishes not to be named, has gone on record and confirmed this was an inappropriate act from Noel Brown and was not consensual.

As a result, we are banning Noel Brown from competing in the duration of the 2016 season of the Capcom Pro Tour as a first offense. A second offense will result in a lifetime ban from participating in all future Capcom Pro Tour events. We will use this as a baseline penalty if similar incidents occur in the future.

We do not condone any acts of harassment and we want all of our players and fans to know we will continue our work to ensure that all Capcom Pro Tour events provide safe, inviting environments where the focus is on healthy competition and exciting rivalries.

We support Combo Breaker’s decision to ban Noel Brown and support any tournament organizer who decides to ban anyone from their event who they feel is creating a hostile environment for other attendees.

When we contacted Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar regarding the incident, he had the following to say: “Evo stands behind Capcom’s decision to ban any player responsible for acts of harassment. We have a zero tolerance policy for behavior that creates an unsafe environment for our attendees. He will not be allowed to attend Evo 2016.”

Combo Breaker Organizer Temporarily Bars Player from Participating in Future Events

On Sunday, May 29, amid the excitement of finals day at Combo Breaker 2016, an unacceptable event took place: a male attending the event groped a female. The victim has asked not to be named, but those who have reviewed the necessary footage have identified the offender as Noel Brown.

In response to this incident, organizer Rick “TheHadou” Thiher released a statement on the Combo Breaker website declaring that Brown “will not be permitted to attend Combo Breaker’s 2017 and potential 2018 events,” before going on to say “Combo Breaker will re-evaluate Mr. Brown’s eligibility to attend our events in 2018.”

The statement closes by assuring everyone that Combo Breaker events have a zero tolerance policy for harassment. How this decision will impact Brown’s ability to attend other events on the Capcom Pro Tour remains to be seen, though it is important to note that Capcom recently updated their Pro Tour rules to address concerns with swearing, harassment, collusion and other inappropriate conduct.

Ibuki’s Alternate Street Fighter V Costume Leaks at Recent Winner Stays On Session

Since attendees at Winner Stays On sessions have been getting a look at Street Fighter V’s new characters before they officially release for quite some time, it came as no surprise that Ibuki players like F-Word were allowed to take their favorite kunoichi for a spin well before her expected June release in their most recent meeting.

But, as these early looks sometimes go, the event wasn’t flawless. Midway through the stream, while idling on the character select screen with Ibuki chosen, someone accidentally wiggled around her costume options, inadvertently unveiling her upcoming alternate costume.

While the footage is brief–and admittedly small, as the commentators were the focus in the shot at the time–we do get the quickest glimpse at what appears to be a white top of some variety, as well as her unmasked face. It’s not much to go on, but it is exciting to know that this upcoming fighter is willing to take a break from her serious ninja duds from time to time.

Ibuki Brings Bombs, Kunai and Energy Blasts to Street Fighter V

Late last night following the Combo Breaker top 8, we got our first look at Ibuki’s upcoming Street Fighter V incarnation. While the trailer does offer a good glimpse at the tools Ibuki will bring to the fight, it doesn’t tell us everything. With that in mind, Harrison took to the Capcom-Unity blog to fill everyone in on some more details regarding the nature of Ibuki’s tactics in the new game.

Anyone who spent some time facing off against her in the previous installment of the series is likely curious how Capcom translated the setplay monster over to the fifth game. The answer(s), at least at this point in time, seems to be bombs, kites, and way more kunai. Unlike Ibuki in previous titles, the Street Fighter V version can only stock five kunai at any given time before having to “quickly obtain another set,” though we’re not yet certain how she goes about doing so.

V-Skill: Tenrai

Ibuki V-Skill

Ibuki’s V-Skill, Tenrai, causes her to charge an energy blast which she channels through her palm. This blast range can be increased by holding the charge for a longer duration.

V-Trigger: Isshaku Horokudama

Ibuki V-Trigger

Ibuki’s V-Trigger causes her to toss a bomb on to the stage with a fuse timer that can be changed by holding different directions. The bomb has three default timer settings, but can apparently be triggered through other means–perhaps with a kunai, as hinted in the trailer–but there may be even more ways to shorten the fuse to keep opponents on their toes.

Critical Art: Kachofugetsu

Ibuki Critical Art

This is the move that closes out Ibuki’s trailer, and Harrison describes it as “the pinnacle of Ibuki’s ninjutsu training.” She opens with a strike to her opponent’s leg before taking them into the sky to blast them with a massive ball of energy.

If you watched the trailer, you certainly noticed that Capcom showcased Ibuki on a daytime variant of the Kanzuki Estate. This stage, aptly dubbed “Estate at Noon,” will be available for play in the near future.

Anyone who takes a look over Capcom’s post will likely notice that Ibuki doesn’t currently have a release date; we can confirm that she wasn’t surreptitiously added to the roster overnight either, and while it would be great to give her a shot before June rolls around, we’re definitely running out of time.

Harrison closes out the post promising that June is going to be an intense month for Street Fighter V players, thanks to the expanded story mode “and more surprises.”

Ibuki to Join Street Fighter V Cast as Next Playable Character

The Street Fighter V top 8 at Combo Breaker 2016 just came to a close, and organizers didn’t give viewers the chance to take a breath before unveiling Capcom’s special announcement promised earlier this week. Since we’re mere days away from the calendar ticking over to June, it came as a surprise to no one that this announcement included details on the newest addition to the Street Fighter V roster. That new addition is none other than Ibuki.

While we can’t yet confirm the sorts of shenanigans she’ll be able to pull off in Street Fighter V, we do know that this fan favorite kunoichi has loads of kunai ready for tossing. She also appears to sport a number of her signature moves including target combos, command dashes, Neckbreaker, and Raida, just to name a few.

But she’s bringing with her a number of new tools as well, including (among many others) a sort of kite-based float, bombs, and what appears to be a counter.

If you want to see her in action, check out the official trailer below!

Use this Handy Translation to Navigate the Japanese Menus of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

The full Japanese version of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- launched earlier this week, and while a demo version of the game has been available–even outside of Japan–for a good while now, the full game does include content not present in the demo. Two notable pieces of such content are console-exclusive characters Kum Haehyun and Raven.

If you’ve recently found yourself in possession of a Japanese version of the full launch title, but don’t speak the language, navigating the menus may prove to be a larger task than learning the ins and outs of the characters themselves. Luckily, Kurushii recently shared a full translation of the menus from Japanese to English to help get everyone started.

Before you hit the lab to figure out these new characters, be sure to give the document a look.
