Fire Emblem Fates’ Corrin, Bayonetta Join Super Smash Bros. Cast in February

Just moments ago, Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai took to the stage for the final Nintendo Direct dedicated to the fighter. Though this is the final Super Smash Bros. 4 video presentation, that doesn’t mean they skimped on news. In addition to discussing details surrounding Cloud Strife, Sakurai was pleased to reveal that Corrin, the main character of Fire Emblem: Fates, will also be joining the cast.

Much like Robin and Wii Fit trainer, players can choose to play as a male or female version of the protagonist, both of whom perform exactly the same. Though Corrin does wield a sword, they aren’t purely another “swordsman.” In addition to swinging their blade, Corrin can turn into a dragon, or transform portions of their body in order perform powerful attacks with dragon-y appendages.

UPDATE – But that’s not all! Bayonetta from the franchise of the same name will also be joining the cast. She brings to the table unique abilities based on her Witch Time mechanics, and will sport outfits from both games in the series.

Players can look forward to picking up Corrin and Bayonetta in February.

Super Smash Bros. Datamining Uncovers Balance Changes, Geno Mii Outfit, and More

Patch day can mean many things, both good and bad, but for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U players, patch day means clocking hours of work trying to divulge the minutiae that made its way into the game’s data files as part of the update. Though version 1.1.3 hasn’t hit consoles just yet, enterprising dataminers have already recovered a good deal of the changes that will be coming to the game when we finally do get the version update later today.

Most importantly, they’ve brought us new information surrounding Cloud Strife, including his post-classic mode victory reel (complete with some sick water slide moves), as well as a full preview of his alternate color options.

As for the rest of the cast, small changes abound. Much like in version 1.1.1, Ganondorf saw shifts in the functionality of his his neutral air, among a host of other changes including adjustments to armor frames on neutral specials. Of course, he wasn’t the only character to get some love this time around; Shulk, Kirby and Mewtwo have all seen many small changes across their kits that should make them more formidable as well.

Since these patches often include Mii costumes, the discovery of a couple of new hats wasn’t altogether unexpected; however, the fact that one comes from the head of Geno (of Super Mario RPG fame) will certainly please some players, while making it plainly clear to others that there’s little chance the character will ever be playable himself.

Street Fighter V to Headline Wednesday Night Fights’ Winter Season

With this year’s Capcom Pro Tour behind us and just two short months remaining before the release of the next entry in Capcom’s flagship fighting series, Street Fighter players the world over are making plans for how to approach this next era in fighting game history.

That’s not to say that Street Fighter IV won’t continue to make its regular appearances at majors and weeklies alike, but there has been–and will continue to be–a definite shift in focus from the title that helped revitalize the scene to one that aims to get back to something closer to the game’s roots.

This preparation for Street Fighter V has come in the form of combo and tech videos, podcast discussions, and of course, tournament organization. Case in point, Wednesday Night Fights organizers announced plans earlier today to begin their winter season on February 17, just one day after Street Fighter V’s official release. And yes, the day-old game will be the focus of the event moving forward.

If you’ve got plans to make an appearance at this inaugural event, it’d be wise to get the most out of the upcoming beta weekend to help prepare.

Level Up Your Game Breaks Down Akuma’s Tekken 7 Fated Retribution Reveal

If you’ve been anywhere near the internet in the last 48 hours, you’ve probably heard already: Akuma is going to be in Tekken 7 Fated Retribution. Given the amount of hype generated by this announcement, there’s a chance that viewers may have missed a thing or two with regard to how the demon will work once unleashed on the world of Tekken.

With that in mind, Level Up Your Game’s Rip took the time to pick apart the footage and discuss how things like EX moves, demon flips, fireballs, and even the iconic Raging Demon super may impact gameplay.

And while Akuma’s inclusion obviously drew the most attention, perhaps leaving viewers other than myself a gibbering mess after the Raging Demon connected, he also discusses the new stage, potential stage transitions, new default costumes and, of course, new story elements that the trailer brings to light.

Keoma, Snake Eyez, Infiltration and More Discuss the Most Hype Moments of Capcom Pro Tour 2015

This year’s Capcom Pro Tour painted the planet with hype. Hopping from country to country, this series of tournaments not only provided viewers with top-notch footage on a near weekly basis, but it also worked to unify the global fighting game community. With so many events throughout the year, deciding on a single moment to act as a crystallization of the whole tour is, obviously, no simple task.

With this in mind, Capcom’s Matt Edwards spoke with the folks behind the sticks, including Keoma Pacheco, Red Bull’s Darryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis, and Razer’s Seon-woo “Infiltration” Lee, to get their opinion on the best moments of the year. But Pro Tour participants aren’t the only ones to share their thoughts, as Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez, Logan Sama, and David “UltraDavid” Graham also weigh in on the discussion.

Let Loose Meta Knight’s Shuttle Loops in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Though he will never be quite so strong in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as he was in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Meta Knight can still put up a fight. In his latest video, My Smash Corner takes Dreamland’s caped swordsman for a spin, demonstrating his potential when in the right hands and offering advice along the way.

Meta Knight’s up air (repeated ad nauseam) to Shuttle Loop is easily his most notorious combo, bringing the fighter kill potential at unexpectedly low percentages thanks to how high he can carry his target. In the video below, you’ll learn all sorts of ways to get this series of swings going, as well as a handful of other strategies to score extra damage.

Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel Offering Free Characters on Release

The Japanese release of Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel saw the inclusion of Senran Kagura’s Homura and Arcana Heart’s Aino Heart as free downloadable content for players who decided to purchase the game early in its life. Earlier today, Siliconera announced that XSEED plans to keep this same promotion when they publish the title in North America, a plan that will save early adopters $5.99 per character (or $9.99 for the bundle including both).

This promotion will run for the first four weeks after launch, and includes only these two characters. They do not come equipped with full wardrobes, however, so you’ll still need to shell out some extra cash if you plan on hitting the arena in their swimsuits.

Leave Marvel Opponents One Character Short with Morrigan, Doctor Doom, and Amaterasu

MorriDoom. Just hearing the word fills Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 players with a distinct dread. The last thing that the pair need is new technology, but that’s exactly what they’ve gotten.

As demonstrated in the video below, this combo–which also includes the assistance of Amaterasu–will kill anyone. Thanks to the massive number of Soul Drains in the mix, not only does it take a character out of action, but it also saps loads of meter from Morrigan’s foes, allowing her to burn all the bar necessary to get the job done and leave her completely meter neutral afterwards.

Relive Capcom Cup with These Amazing Ultra Street Fighter IV Replays

You didn’t have to tune into Capcom Cup last weekend to know the event provided viewers with unparalleled Ultra Street Fighter IV play. But you did tune in, right?

Well, even if you didn’t, the folks at Capcom Fighters have begun the upload cycle for the event that officially ended Street Fighter IV’s run in the Capcom Pro Tour. Each player present had an impressive run, even those who went out 0-2, as simply qualifying for for such an exclusive competition takes more ability than most can muster.

Below, we’ve embedded three matches from the top eight, including Keoma’s last match against Red Bull’s Snake Eyez–one that I personally found the most difficult to watch, not sure how to exist in a world where one of the two had to lose–the in-team battle between r/Kappa’s Poongko and Misse, and, of course, the grand finals match that pitted Kazunoko against Mad Catz’ Daigo Umehara.

Capcom also compiled their own top five moments in the following video.
