Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition and Fighting EX Layer will be playable at the 2017 PlayStation Experience

The Sony PlayStation blog has revealed a long list of developers, publishers, and games to grace their upcoming exhibition, the 2017 PlayStation Experience. The expo takes place in Anaheim, California, over December 9th and 10th.

The company published a blog with a “near-final” list of playable games to hit the floor. From that list, fighting game aficionados can spot a few interesting selections: Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Fighting EX Layer, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and Under Night In-Birth EXE:Late[st] (possibly in English?). This will be a great opportunity to get a first taste of SFV’s Arcade Edition and to try Fighting EX Layer.

Rumors floating around are also suggesting there may be a surprise SoulCalibur VI reveal; as Sony mentions, the game list isn’t complete. Check out the PlayStation Blog for the list of games.

Online play is free for PlayStation users in Europe this week

Lucky PlayStation 4 users who have lapsed on their Plus membership can take advantage of the service’s biggest benefit for free — at least in Europe. Sony has announced a limited promotion for European owners: users who don’t have a PS Plus membership will still be able to take advantage of online multiplayer for the next few days.

The multiplayer event started this morning of November 15th and runs until Monday, November 20th, 10:00 AM GMT. There’s no need to sign up for anything or take any action. Note though, this promotion doesn’t come with any other benefits that PS Plus entails — such as cloud saving, free games, or discounts on the PS Store.

If you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to challenge some netplay opponents in your favorite fighting game, now’s a great time to get back into the fray.

Properly learn Hibiki’s BlazBlue: Central Fiction 2.0 combos with this complete guide

One of BlazBlue: Central Fiction‘s new characters, Hibiki Kohaku, doesn’t feel quite as fresh anymore — given that the game has been in the market for over a year now. However, the fairly recent 2.0 patch shook things up quite a bit, rebalancing the game. There have been pretty notable changes to the Central Fiction newcomer.

Hibiki received a lot of good new options in 2.0, as several of his special moves became usable while airborne. That particularly includes his air command grab, which is a common combo ender. For those unfamiliar with Hibiki, he’s a speedy character who can either send a shadow clone without endangering himself or dash up fast at the opponent, with a variety of approaches.

Hentaitop is back with their usual combo videos, which have great presentation. At the beginning, the video shows all the moves with their names in English and Japanese. The combos are divided into simple, intermediate, and Overdrive ones. Check it all out below to get a very good grasp on how to combo with Hibiki.

A recent video also covers how to react to Hibiki’s pressure — useful when learning how to defend against him.

This video guide will teach you how to beat Xiaoyu in Tekken 7

Xiaoyu is definitely the demon of many players in Tekken 7 — maybe more so than Devil Jin himself. Those who struggle with fighting the agile young woman definitely need to take a look at this latest video guide from TheMainManSWE, who will get you past a roadblock.

His new video guide offers a thorough explanation on how to effectively deal with Xiaoyu, and how to play much smarter against her. For one, it’s better to play a little more defensively than usual, since she’s looking to counter and evade attacks. In particular, doing high moves is incredibly risky — that’s just what she’s looking for, especially with a stance which will let her do easy launchers. It’s necessary to find attacks that will hit her despite her stance. The video shows a few practical punishes after blocking her attacks, and talks about her throws.

If you’re looking to study up a different character, one of TheMainManSWE’s recent videos covers Devil Jin basics.

The voice actor behind Dragon Ball’s Frieza, Christopher Ayres, is seriously ill

Sad news for Dragon Ball fans, especially for those looking forward to Dragon Ball FighterZ; the voice actor behind Frieza — certainly an important and much-loved character in the franchise — is suffering life-threatening health difficulties.

Veteran voice actor Christopher Ayres was hospitalized earlier this year in Houston, according to the actor’s YouCaring page. He was diagnosed with End Stage C. O. P. D. (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), which causes difficulty breathing and increasingly severe lung problems. Ayers is in need of therapy, surgery, and is looking to receive a transplant.

Other than Frieza, Ayers lent his voice to numerous anime and video game works, such as Dark Water, Speed Grapher, 5 Centimeters Per Second, Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2. There are a few more details about his situation over at the YouCaring page, which asks for donations to support his treatment.

The SRK staff hopes for Ayers’ swift recovery.

Fenrich and Iwashi play in a celebratory BlazBlue: Central Fiction tournament post Arc Revo victory

Recently, Athena Ipponbashi in Japan hosted a special 2v2 BlazBlue: Central Fiction tournament. The event celebrated the recent Arc Revolution champs, who beat out everyone else at the Toushinsai 2017 competition. The duo, of course, is composed of the most famous Jin Kisaragi player in the world, Infinity Osaka|Fenrich, and his brother, Iwashi, who plays Ragna the Bloodedge.

The two clips below show the special tournament. Various players take on the two brothers. The footage is divided into IO|Fenrich and Iwashi’s sides. IO|Fenrich tinkers a bit with his Azrael and Izanami at first, while Iwashi remains Ragna throughout.

The celebration was complete with a cake made for the two brothers:

If you missed Sunday’s culmination of the Tekken 7 World Tour — well, it was one heck of a show. Approximately 40,000 viewers on Twitch tuned in to not only see some top notch Tekken 7 gameplay, but also a surprising character reveal in the form of Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis as DLC.

His dominating show often included hype confirms into the Rage Art attack. Echo Fox|Saint brought amazing Jack-7 gameplay.

Other than them, Circa|Joey Fury showed tenacity with Paul, pulling off close wins against Master Raven, used by CCG|Tissuemon. Also, can’t forget to mention Echo Fox|JDCR, whose Dragunov put the opponent on their toes plenty of times.

Relive the hype below with the highlight reel; you can consult SRK’s Tekken 7 World Tour results page for the full player breakdown.

Exploring Fighting Games offers an assist on approaching team-based fighting games

What is fundamentally different about team-based fighting games, other than the obvious fact of using multiple characters? Any fighting game that has two or more characters included is quite different from a standard one vs. one. Things like multiple life bars, combination attacks, and assists significantly change the approach for such games.

Exploring Fighting Games’ latest episode covers just that. Seeing how team fighters are back in vogue with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, The King of Fighters XIV, and the upcoming Dragon Ball FighterZ and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, it’s more important than ever to understand these concepts. The video begins by pointing out that it’s inherently harder to approach team games because they throw many more factors into the mix at once — more characters, mechanics, and generally with shorter life bars. It’s also tougher to compose a good team. Players need to know how to select characters that synergize with each other based on their strengths and weaknesses, as well as what order to put them in, saving the more meter-dependent fighters for later.

Check out the latest episode below — and refer to the previous one to learn more about maintaining pressure on the opponent.
