A posting for “Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition” has been spotted on UK games retailer ShopTo

With Tokyo Games Show currently taking place, many are hoping for additional details on Street Fighter V‘s next DLC character, along with news on the long-rumored/speculated “Super” Street Fighter V update. Well, a recent posting by UK games retailer ShopTo suggests that we may indeed be seeing this enhanced edition coming in early 2018.

Titled Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, the posting carried a January 16th release date, with a RRP of £39.99. Based on this, one can imagine that this version of Street Fighter V would come with all of the characters from Season 1 and 2, along with the rumored “Super” updates. Based on the name, you’d also assume that it would finally have Arcade Mode as well!

The posting has since been removed by ShopTo, which suggests that they either put it up ahead of an announcement from Tokyo Games Show, or that it is just an outright mistake. Several games have been leaked before via early postings on online retailers, so I’d keep your fingers crossed for solid news later this week.

ARIKA’s Tokyo Games Show trailer shows Allen Snider in action

Revealed back in August, the latest trailer for ARIKA’s “Mysterious Fighting Game” shows the all-American karate master Allen Snider in action. His appearance in the trailer is only short, but it has him using his trademark Fire Force and Triple Break Supers.

With ARIKA being present at Tokyo Games Show, expect more information about this mysterious fighter from those attending the show. Hopefully, Allen is fully playable so attendees can get to grips with the high-kicking hero. Seeing as the beta for this fighter is scheduled for later this year, be prepared for potential news on when this beta test will be taking place to possibly be revealed during the Tokyo Games Show.

Capcom’s Battle for the Stones: Evo champions and new challengers will face off in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

No doubt the result of that leaked esports video from earlier this year, Capcom have revealed their plans for the first Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite tournament series. Named “Battle for the Stones,” it sees seven Evo champions facing off against nine new challengers to become the master of the Infinity Stones.

Six of these competitors will be champions from select offline tournaments, with the other three coming from special online qualifiers. The winner of each offline event will gain an Infinity Stone and a place in the final 16-man bracket, where they will be paired against either a former Evo champion or the victor of an online qualifier. The seven Evo champions are:

  • Jay “Viscant” Snyder – Evo 2011 champion
  • Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez – Evo 2012 champion
  • Job “Flocker” Figueroa – Evo 2013 champion
  • Justin Wong – Evo 2014 champion
  • Nick “KaneBlueRiver” Gonzalez – Evo 2015 champion
  • Chris “ChrisG” Gonzalez – Evo 2016 champion
  • Ryan “RyanLV” Romero – Evo 2017 champion

There is a twist though — each Infinity Stone has a power that actually changes the rules of the tournament. An Infinity Stone holder is allowed to activate their Stone once, altering the rules to give them an advantage. At this point in time, we don’t know what each stone does, but their use will be revealed at their corresponding event. Here are the six Infinity Stone tournaments:

  • SoCal Regionals – Space Stone
  • Canada Cup – Mind Stone
  • South East Asia Major – Time Stone
  • Milan Games Week – Soul Stone
  • Latin America Finals – Reality Stone
  • Red Bull Proving Grounds – Power Stone

Should you lose a match in the final Battle for the Stones bracket, you give your Stone to your opponent to use. This means that Grand Finals will see the last two combatants counter-picking Stones both in and outside of the game. It’s certainly a novel idea, and I hope Capcom have fun with the power of each Stone. I’d love for the Reality Stone to see players fight it out in an old Marvel game, for example.

The final Battle for the Stones bracket will take place at the Hilton Anaheim from December 8th-10th — the same time as the PlayStation Experience and Capcom Cup 2017. For all the information regarding rules, associated tournaments and the Stones themselves, check out the official Battle for the Stones website.

Method add Cole “Flux” Tocci to their growing fighting game roster

Ahead of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s release tomorrow, esports organization Method have brought a Marvel heavy-hitter into the fold. Joining other players like Luffy, Packz and REO, Cole “Flux” Tocci has become the latest addition to Method’s fighting game roster.

Famous for his Zero May Cry team, Flux has been a constant threat in top 8s for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, with him recently coming first at East Coast Throwdown 2017. While Marvel is the game he is most famous for, Flux is a big threat in the US BlazBlue scene too, and is currently ranked eighth in smash.gg’s Burst League.

Flux has a history with Method too, as he often competed against their raiding guild back when he was an avid World of Warcraft player. Now part of Method’s cohort, expect a whole new era of lightning loops and Dante combos in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

Tokyo Games Show will feature a special Dragon Ball FighterZ presentation

While many of us are recovering from its closed beta, the Dragon Ball FighterZ hype train rolls on with Tokyo Games Show later this week. Along with it being playable at the show, producer Tomoko Hiroki and the team from Arc System Works will be hosting a panel on the Saturday — complete with special guest Hikaru Midorikawa, the Japanese voice actor for Android 16.

You’ll be able to watch the panel live via Bandai Namco’s 876TV channel, with it being streamed at 4:00 PM JST/12:00 AM PT. With the recent announcement of Yamcha and Tien as playable characters, it’s fair to expect a trailer showing these two fighters in action. With Android 16’s voice actor also present, we may learn more about Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s story mode, seeing as A16 and new character Android 21 feature prominently within this “what-if” scenario.

Yamcha, Tien and new character Android 21 are coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ

Just as lucky fans are enjoying the closed beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ, we’ve received news on the next three characters coming to DBFZ. Revealed in the most recent issue of V-Jump, old school fighters Yamcha and Tien are joining the battle, alongside brand new character Android 21.

Android 21 will feature as part of Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s “what-if” scenario, joining the fight alongside the revived Android 16. She has been specially designed by Dragon Ball series creator Akira Toriyama, but it’s unknown if she will be a playable character at this time. Based off the V-Jump scans, she may be exclusive to the Story Mode.

Similar to Android 18, Tien will be able to call on best pal Chiaotzu as an assist — helping him lock opponents into place so he can start a combo. His Shin Kikoho looks to be his Level 3 Super and interestingly, Tien is wearing his Dragon Ball Super costume, rather than his traditional Crane School outfit.

As for Yamcha, everyone’s favorite desert bandit has Spirit Ball as one of his Supers, along with his trademark Wolf Fang Fist. Hopefully, Yamcha will be an asset to any team, rather than just being DBFZ’s Dan. Fingers crossed for a baseball outfit alt costume in the future.

You can check out the scans below and expect a trailer for Tien, Yamcha and potentially Android 21 to come out of Tokyo Games Show next week.

Evo Japan registration is now open!

Better start saving for a plane ticket, as you can now register for the first ever Evo Japan. Registration is completely free for both spectators and competitors, but you will have to buy a ticket to watch Sunday finals in Akiba Square — which acted as the venue for Evo Japan’s 賽 [sài] event.

Besides Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and ARMS, each game will have a prize pool of 1 million yen (approx. $9000). While it may not be much compared to Western tournaments, it’s a significant amount when you consider Japan’s strict anti-gambling laws that prevent the majority of events from giving out cash prizes. If you need a reminder of Evo Japan’s game lineup, it is as follows:

  • Street Fighter V
  • Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2
  • Tekken 7
  • The King of Fighters XIV
  • BlazBlue: Central Fiction
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
  • ARMS

Registration is available on smash.gg until December 31st, so you’ve got plenty of time to plan your travel and book your accommodation. If you are looking for hotels in the area, this article from 4gamer points out good places to stay around the Evo Japan venue. For more information on Evo Japan, make sure to check out its official website.

Mortal Kombat Funko Pop figures are launching this November

If you’re looking to expand your Funko Pop collection with some fighting game characters, you better start saving your cash for this November. Funko have teamed up with NetherRealm Studios to announce a line of special Mortal Kombat-themed figures.

The base set of figures includes Sub-Zero, Raiden, Scorpion, Kitana, and Liu Kang, as well as a limited edition Chase Sub-Zero. GameStop are stocking two limited editions — a 6″ Goro and a double pack of Scorpion and Sub-Zero, where Sub-Zero is on fire while Scorpion is made of ice. There is also a flaming skull Scorpion figure, which is suitably exclusive to Hot Topic.

All of these Funko Pops are based on character designs from Mortal Kombat X, so don’t expect to see any figures based on the classic Mortal Kombat ninjas just yet. You can check all of the figures below, or over on the Funko Pop website.
