Fantasy Strike arrives on Steam Early Access later today

Hoping to bring in a new wave of fighting game fans with its focus on accessibility, Sirlin Games’ Fantasy Strike is now out on Steam Early Access. This release of Fantasy Strike includes eight characters, five stages and a plethora of single and multiplayer modes — including an Arcade mode, practice and of course, online play.

This Steam release of Fantasy Strike also shows off new improvements to the game’s cel-shading, as well as adding the new Friend Match feature. This allows players to invite friends to a match without having to fiddle around with private matches or external Steam menus.

Fantasy Strike will be regularly updated on Steam Early Access, with a view to launching sometime in 2018 on both PC and PlayStation 4. If you want to give this hyper accessible fighter a try, it unlocks on Steam at 3PM PT and costs $19.99.

Smash 4 is getting its own $10,000 invitational with VGBC’s Smash 4 Boot Camp

While big brother Melee has enjoyed several invitationals with events like Smash Summit and Yahoo Rivalries, the Smash 4 community has been rallying to get its own invite-only tournament. Well, VBGC has finally answered the call and is hosting Smash 4’s first big invitational — named the Smash 4 Boot Camp.

Hosted between December 7th-10th and with $10,000 up for grabs, its structure will be familiar to anyone whose tuned into Smash Summit. There are eight already invited players, two wildcards which qualify by placing highly at either The Big House 7 or GT-X and then six fan voted contenders. The eight invited players are as follows:

  • TSM|ZeRo
  • CLG|VoiD
  • MSF|Larry Lurr
  • RNG|Dabuz
  • MVG|Salem
  • P1|Tweek
  • FOX MVG|MKLeo
  • NRG|Nairo

Much like Smash Summit, there will be plenty of other events and side activities alongside the main tournaments. Player voting will commence in early November, so start thinking of players you’d like to see at Smash 4’s first major invitational.

Frosty Faustings X’s Tatsunoko vs. Capcom tournament will be played on PC, with Giants legal

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom got quite the boost at this year’s Frosty Faustings IX, with top TvC players showing that the black sheep of the Versus series is still very much alive. With the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Discord bustling with players, the TvC community are planning to go big for their tournament at Frosty Faustings X.

First off, the TvC tournament at FFX will be the first offline event that has players playing on a PC, using the Dolphin emulator. Thanks to a custom-built TvC competition setup, 10 players can play at the same time and with a special HD build of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Players can also use any controller they want and any character they want — yes, that does include Giant characters.

Fight of Gods’ first major tournament will be at Revolution 2017

And lo, it came to pass that the holiest of champions would wage glorious battle! Announced by Rice Digital, PQube and NGI today, Revolution 2017 will be the site of the first ever Fight of Gods tournament. You’ve seen the infinites, 100% combos and incredible jank that is possible within the confines of Training Mode — now it’s time to see it on the big stage.

The tournament will take place on Saturday 7th October, with top placers winning exclusive Fight of Gods prizes. An arcade stick blessed by the Archbishop of Canterbury perhaps? Or maybe a pad made from a fragment of the True Cross? If you’re looking to prove yourself as a godlike player, Revo 2017 is the place to prove it.

Sign-ups are still available for Revolution 2017, with entry to the Fight of Gods tournament costing 30 pieces of silver £5.

Mix and match fan-made Critical Arts with Street Fighter V’s Mysterious Mod

Rumors are abound concerning a potential “Super” Street Fighter V update which adds new elements to the V-System, introduces some classic characters and gives everyone on the roster a second Critical Art. While we may be waiting until December to see this update — if we see something like it at all — Street Fighter V modders have taken it upon themselves to make their own Critical Arts.

To publicize these new Critical Arts, SFV modder Killbox has created a compilation that shows the current selection of new super moves. So far, the only characters without fan-made Critical Arts are:

  • Ed
  • Rashid
  • Cammy
  • R. Mika
  • Chun-Li
  • Karin
  • Menat
  • Kolin
  • Abigail

If you are a keen Street Fighter V modder and have ideas for a Critical Art, make sure to join the Mysterious Mod Discord. So far, my favorites have to be Birdie’s rapid fire headbutt, F.A.N.G’s toxic dance, and Zangief’s helicopter lariat.

Prepare for Samurai Shodown V Special’s release with this special combat guide

Sharpen your sword and get that hakama washed, as Samurai Shodown V Special launches on PS4 and PS Vita tomorrow. If you’re new to SNK’s feudal fighter or need to refresh your memory on SSVS’ mechanics, the European PlayStation Blog has released a helpful combat guide to bring you up to speed.

Along with Deflects and Blade Catches which can help you turn your opponent’s momentum against them, Samurai Shodown V Special allows players to commit suicide if they are losing a round. While this may seem useless at first, it can be used tactically so you can go into the next round with a full Rage meter.

Samurai Shodown V Special is a Cross-Buy and Cross-Play game, meaning you can play it both at home on your PS4 and then take it on the road with your Vita. If you’re a PS Plus member, SSVS is also 20% off if you buy within its launch week.

A listing for a PC version of Injustice 2 has appeared on Amazon France

Better late than never, I suppose. According to a retail listing on Amazon France and European retailer Game Mania, a PC port of Injustice 2 may be coming in the near future. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive haven’t had the greatest history with PC ports, with the PC version of Mortal Kombat X being nigh-on unplayable when it launched. It was eventually overhauled when MKX received its grand netcode upgrade, but it was too-little-too-late for many PC fighting game fans.

Based on the Amazon France page listing the Deluxe edition of Injustice 2, NetherRealm looks to be releasing the PC version with all the DLC included — similar to Mortal Kombat XL. If this does turn out to be legitimate, I hope NetherRealm have passed the port onto a company that won’t release a buggy mess of a game.

Neither listing hints at a release date, but my guess would be that a potential PC port would launch alongside Fighter Pack 3 later this year or in early 2018.

Project M’s Backroom have released a brand new tier list for PM 3.6

While development ended almost two years, the competitive Project M scene shows no sign of stopping. The meta is starting to reach a place of equilibrium, now is a good a time as any for the Project M backroom to release a new tier list. There are still characters who have the potential to rise up — one only needs to look at the success of ThundeRzReiGN and his DK — but the top tiers of PM have more or less been decided.

As a result, this tier list is less of a definitive “these are the best characters now and forever”, and more of a symbol of the current Project M meta. Things will change and expect 2018’s list to have its own quirks and changes. In the abstract accompanying the tier list release, the PMBR notes factors like Falco’s fall down the tier list and the rise of DK, along with other points of contention among the panelists. PM Tier List 3.6 2017

In comparison to last year’s list, ROB has fallen 20 places from A Tier to C Tier, while characters like the Ice Climbers and Sonic have seen a huge leap up. Meta Knight and Wolf have successfully booted Fox and Diddy from S Tier, while Bowser and Kirby still languish in the depths of bottom tier.

2GGC: Fire Emblem Saga is coming to the Esports Arena from October 14th-15th

Announced during West Side Saga, 2GGaming and Esports Arena have announced that Fire Emblem Saga will be the Fall season finale for the 2GG Championship Series. As it is dedicated to Nintendo’s tactical RPG, 2GG is looking to invite as many Fire Emblem character mains to compete in the penultimate Saga before the actual 2GG Championship. So far, the confirmed invited players are:

  • MKLeo (Marth, Corrin)
  • Pugwest (Marth)
  • Mr. E (Marth)
  • Ryuga (Corrin)
  • Ryo (Ike, Roy, Corrin)
  • Cosmos (Corrin)
  • Captain Levi (Roy)
  • Dath (Robin)

I could see both Earth, Fuwa, Nojinko and Rizseau from Japan getting invited through this Saga’s compendium, alongside Europe’s best Roy TheFlow and top New York Ike San. With ZeRo having a tournament-ready Lucina and Nairo having a pretty good Robin, we could see the Saga Curse being broken by someone winning with a Fire Emblem character.

Following the events of West Side Saga, the 2GG Championship points table has been shaken up a fair bit, with Tweek knocking komorikiri off the third place spot. ZeRo is still way out in front, gaining an almost 500 point lead over second place Dabuz following his fifth Saga victory. With Fire Emblem Saga being the Fall season finale, players will receive double points if they manage to place highly, so expect that points table to change even more.

Panda Global announce their new online Smash 4 league, titled PG Key: WiFi Warriors Circuit

After taking a break to rejig and re-evaluate the format of their PG Key events, Panda Global are back with a new online league for those Smash 4 WiFi warriors. Titled PG Key: WiFi Warriors Circuit, it will see players racking up points via regular online events, with the overall league winner getting free flights, housing and entry at Genesis 5 next year.

Much like smash.gg’s Burst League and the Curleh Circuit, any event can become a potential WiFi Warriors event, as long as it is approved by Panda Global. There will be special PG Key events within the circuit, which will grant additional points and other prizes. For a full list of current WiFi Warriors tournaments, as well as the details on how to make your event part of the circuit, check out its dedicated smash.gg page.

Unlike previous PG Key events, WiFi Warriors events are not restricted to North American entrants. Hopefully this will give other regions a chance to get someone to Genesis 5.
