Red Hood is coming to Injustice 2 next month

Thanks to someone at Warner Bros. being a little too quick on the trigger, we’ve finally seen Red Hood in action for Injustice 2. Most likely being former Robin Jason Todd returned from the grave, Red Hood wields a deadly arsenal of explosive mines, shurikens and knives alongside his dual pistols.

Rather than being strictly a zoner much like Deadshot, Red Hood works best at the mid-range, mixing opponents up with his explosives and gun-kata style attacks. He has a forward dive which has him firing off both guns at once, along with an air throw where he sticks an opponent with a mine before detonating it. He even has a meter-burn special where he bounces an unloaded gun off his opponent, loads it and then shoots them in the face.

His trait seems to have him activating special shock pads on the bottom of his guns, turning them into tasers. Red Hood looks like he can activate these shock pads mid-string, allowing him to continue a combo. From first glance, I’m getting flashbacks to Batgirl’s shock gauntlets in the original Injustice and those are memories I would like to forget.

His super has Red Hood chucking his whole arsenal of weapons at his opponent. He blows them into the air with a grenade, juggles them with gunfire, attaches a mine to their back and then makes them explode with a well-placed bullet to the spine. There is truly no kill like overkill.

Based on the marketing material at the end of the trailer, Red Hood will be available in June for those who either already own the Injustice 2 Ultimate Editon, or have bought character pack 1.

Eagle will join Killer Instinct’s roster in June

Teased during Killer Instinct Top 8 at Combo Breaker, the 29th character for Killer Instinct will be Chief Thunder’s brother, Eagle. Kidnapped by Ultratech and used at the human base for the prototype Fulgore MK3 unit, Eagle joins Killer Instinct as a cybernetic warrior who fights with a bow and a robot bird companion.

Based on the incredibly brief teaser, Eagle is an archer character who will seemingly have a finite number of arrows to use in battle. I can imagine his arrow count may be similar to Arbiter’s ammo count on his carbine, but with his bird companion either summoning or retrieving arrows that miss their target. Eagle is set to be released in June, so we’ll update you with more news about Eagle once we get a full trailer and a character breakdown.

Turn Megaman’s Metal Blade against him with these counter combos for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Since the discovery of the now famous Kamecombo, Megaman’s Metal Blade is a move that inspires pure fear. You drop shield or jump at the wrong time when the Blue Bomber is holding this item, and that could be the end of your stock.

In order to counter this serrated weapon, the Beefy Smash Doods have gone into the lab to discover combos that other characters can perform using Megaman’s Metal Blade. Seeing as it is an item that Megaman can drop, different fighters can pick up the Blade and start using it for their own purposes. For this video, the Beefy Smash Doods only go through the top row of the character select screen, but they may continue their experiments should people enjoy this video.

Luigi is the only character with absolutely no follow-ups, while other characters like Wario, Peach and Bowser require very specific setups to capitalize off the Metal Blade.

Injustice 2 weekend roundup: Stylish Darkseid combos, Bane and Swamp Thing tick throws, Harley Quinn tricks and more

As Injustice 2’s first ever major is going on at Combo Breaker, here is this weekend’s tech roundup to help prepare you for the next big event. Whether you’re a grappler, a zoner or the tyrannical ruler of Apokolips, there should be something for you in this information compilation.

We’ll start off with some stylish combos from the flashy combo master desk. Focusing on Wonder Woman and Darkseid, some of these sequences look super cool but incredibly impractical. One of the combos has Darkseid using four teleports in a single combo. That’s just showing off.

Speaking of Darkseid, VesperArcade has got a beginner combo guide for those trying to learn the master of Parademons. In fact, he’s got beginner combo guides for Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn as well.

For more Harley Quinn tech, rooflemonger has got you covered with more combos and general tips and tricks. He’s also put some time in Injustice 2’s grapplers, Bane and Swamp Thing, creating several videos on how to use these burly brawlers.

To cap this all off, Cody Dickson has got combo videos for the hotheaded matter manipulator Firestorm, as well as Batman’s luchador rival Bane.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be playable at both E3 and CEO 2017

I think all you Marvel heads have another reason to sign up for CEO. Not only will Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite be playable on the E3 show floor, but it will also be available to play the weekend after E3 at CEO 2017. Attendees will be available to play MvC:I all weekend, but there won’t be any scheduled side tournaments during the event.

The next question you’ll no doubt be asking yourself is who will be playable during this build? I imagine we’re going to get some additional character announcements during Sony’s E3 press conferences on Monday June 12th, so expect to see those fighters in both the E3 and CEO builds of the game. Fingers crossed for Gene, Asura and Dante.

If this announcement has just tipped you over the edge for attending CEO, registration remains open until June 4th. We’ll no doubt see some major tech discoveries and information coming from on-site play tests, so be prepared to hear tons of MvC:I news from both CEO and E3.

Wavedash Games answer fan questions in a special Q&A video

To answer some burning fan questions, Wavedash Games have dipped into the mailbag for their latest video. Picking out some of the most commonly asked queries from the platform fighter community, this Q&A hopes to clarify some things about this (still unnamed!) platform fighter.

We should finally see some footage of the game this summer, with Wavedash hoping to launch a closed beta in the fall of this year. With it currently scheduled to launch in early 2018, fans should get a decent amount of time to play with the game ahead of its release. As it is a free-to-play game, the project is planned to have various cosmetic items that characters can equip, including new taunts and respects that players can use in a battle.

As the game is going to launch on PC, it will launch with digital controls as opposed to the analog controls seen in something like Super Smash Bros. Melee. This means players will be able to play with Xbox, PS4 and Gamecube controllers, alongside keyboard and mouse support. Yes, that does mean both the Smash Box and the B0XX will be legal straight out of the gate with this platform fighter.

Wavedash answer more questions like their approach to balance changes in the video, so make sure to watch the whole thing. The studio are planning to reveal new character Raymer next week, so stay tuned for more info very soon.

The new Tekken World Tour will determine 2017’s true King of the Iron Fist

Joining the likes of Street Fighter, Injustice, Killer Instinct and The King of Fighters, Tekken is getting its own world circuit with the release of Tekken 7. In a partnership between Bandai Namco and Twitch, the Tekken World Tour will see players from all over the world competing for a share of a $200,000 prize pool and the title of King of the Iron Fist.

There are three regions for the Tekken World Tour–the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific–all with their own region-locked leaderboards. Each region will have its own selection of Master and Challenger events, which will see players competing for prizes and points on their region’s leaderboard. There will also be open-bracket online events, where players will battle against fighters from their own region for Ranking points.

Evo 2017 will act as the biggest Master event of the World Tour, with the winner automatically winning a place in the World Finals in November. There will also be special Regional tournaments, which will grant players the highest amount of Ranking Points, along with bonus prize money. As with Master and Challenger events, these Regional events will only give points to players from that region.

The World Tour will culminate in the World Finals, where five players from each region and the Evo champ will battle it out for the King of the Iron Fist crown. For the full tournament schedule–including both online and offline events–check out the Tekken World Tour website. The first Americas Master event will be CEO in June, so get practicing to get your name up on that leaderboard.

Four new gods join the pantheon in the latest Fight of Gods trailer

Following its announcement earlier this year, PQube and Digital Crafter have released another trailer for the mythological fighting game, Fight of Gods. This trailer introduces four new gods, and shows off more in-game footage of these deities slugging it out.

From Greek and Norse myth, Athena and Sif are joining the fray, with Anubis representing the Egyptians and Guan Gong fighting for Chinese Taoism. We still don’t see a whole lot of each fighter, but we do get a glimpse of Anubis’ ability to summon sarcophagi from the ground and Guan Gong’s paintbrush slashes. Athena and Sif’s designs are fairly basic, with Athena looking less like the Greek goddess of wisdom and more like your standard hoplite soldier.

Fight of Gods will be playable at MCM Comic Con in London this weekend, so head over to PQube’s booth if you want to try out this “godlike” fighter. It is set to launch on Steam later this year.

Vega’s classic Street Fighter II stage is coming to Street Fighter V on May 30th, alongside Ed & the new CFN

Along with the new Capcom Fighters Network, the long-awaited balance changes, and Ed, Capcom is also releasing a remastered version of Vega’s Street Fighter II Spain stage in its big May 30th update. Along with a new lick of paint, you can now climb the walls of the cage, clamber around and then spring off to deliver a surprise attack–just like in the original. (I doubt we’ll be seeing much of this stage in competitive play, then!).

Spain SFV stage

The Flamenco Tavern will be available for 70,000 Fight Money, or $3.99 USD. The Thailand stage will also be making its return, complete with its altered BGM. Plus, if you log into Street Fighter V between May 30th and June 13th, you’ll get a 50,000 Fight Money bonus courtesy of Capcom. It may be just the cash injection you need to buy a new stage, or Ed.

There have also been a few more balance tweaks ahead of the new CFN rollout, mainly changing elements of Balrog’s TAP. You can find the changes below:

  • Balrog
    • Turn Punch
      •  Level 1 – 6 Motion: Added throw invincibility for frames 1-18F.
      •  Level 1 – 3 Motion: Changed to upper body and projectile invincibility from frames 3-18F.
      • Level 4 – 6 Motion: Changed to attack and projectile invincibility from frames 3-18F.
      • Level 7 – 10 (Final) Motion: Changed to complete invincibility from frames 1-18F
  • R.Mika
    • Passion Press
      • Hitbox was reduced
  • Dhalsim
    • Stand Heavy Punch
      • Changed the total frames from 44F ⇒ 42F
    • Back Throw
      • Reduced the distance from the opponent after hit.

Besides that, Capcom has also released details on the initial wave of Targets that will be available to owners of the 2017 CPT Premier Pass. If you complete all of June’s Targets, you can make a cool 36,000 Fight Money, with new Targets being introduced every month. Be warned that Targets only last for one month, so you’ve got to complete them before the calendar rolls on.

For all the information, make sure to check out the full blog post over on Capcom-Unity.

Street Fighter V set to appear as a challenge on CBS’ The Amazing Race

Street Fighter V made its way onto ESPN, now it’s time for it to appear on CBS. As part of the South Korean stage of this season of The Amazing Race, contestants will have to the challenge of beating a pro player in Street Fighter V. Seeing as this round is in South Korea, racers will be facing off against either RZR|Infiltration or Secret|Poongko in this special challenge match.

Now, this is a challenge most pro players can’t accomplish, so The Amazing Race are adding in some aids to help contestants. Along with a coach to teach them the basics of Street Fighter, handicaps will be introduced when the racer loses 10 rounds. First, Poongko and Infiltration will be forced to play one-handed. If the racer loses another 10 rounds, the two pros will have to then play blindfolded.

The episode will air tomorrow at 10:00 PM on CBS–and leave your bets on how many tries it will take the contestants in the comments below. I’m thinking around 30.
